OK Cal Fans -- I'm Removing the Voter Bias!

SynTex, thanks for defending the cause with nobility...Like Mack, please stand up and take a bow.

This needs to be required reading material.

This is an excellent post. I understand the emotion of the Cal fans (we were there last year - remember all the vile hatred - more than usual - spat at OU and their fans over the Big 12 CCG. I can only imagine it had to be worse for rabid Cal fans to go to bed thinking they had it in the bag, only to find out by Sunday evening that the voters had blown them out of the Rose Bowl. I really wished some of them had listened to the ESPN round table. While all of the dorks on that show made good arguments why Cal should be ranked above Cal, at least 2 guys acknowledged that the scoring system might not work out for Cal. There were people who disagreed with the ESPN talking heads. There are voters who think the SEC should hold down No. 1 through 8 in any poll at any time.

Mack Brown is just a scapegoat for the bigger problem which is the entire BCS system: (1) there are conflicts of interest for the media in both reporting the news and being the news, (2) there are obvious conflicts of interest when you ask coaches (really university administrators) to vote on matters that may effect the economics of their program, and (3) the computer polls are notoriously unreliable. So where does this lead us?

I think a playoff system is inevitable. I honestly am starting to believe that the system will have to have a minimum of 16 teams and probably more to work. The "plus 1" concept would have been a huge problem this year (could you imagine how violent the arguments would have gotten with Cal fans if it meant losing a chance to play for a national championship?). So it goes even through the No. 8 team. There will still be arguments for those that didn't make it (just like with the NCAA tourney). But, we will be at the margins of teams that can make great arguments for being in the championship once we get out to 16 or so. It is time to change the whole thing.

Let's look closer at the Cal-USc game:

1st Quarter CAL USC
TD 7:36 LENDALE WHITE 5 YD PASS FROM MATT LEINART (RYAN KILLEEN KICK)
Drive info: 9 plays, 31 yards
0 7
FG 0:04 RYAN KILLEEN 31 YD FG
Drive info: 7 plays, 50 yards
0 10
2nd Quarter CAL USC
FG 10:16 TOM SCHNEIDER 39 YD FG
Drive info: 12 plays, 58 yards
3 10
FG 6:17 RYAN KILLEEN 33 YD FG
Drive info: 4 plays, 1 yards
3 13
TD 1:37 GEOFF MCARTHUR 20 YD PASS FROM AARON RODGERS (TOM SCHNEIDER KICK)
Drive info: 9 plays, 80 yards
10 13
FG 0:03 RYAN KILLEEN 42 YD FG
Drive info: 9 plays, 37 yards
10 16
3rd Quarter CAL USC
TD 12:11 DWAYNE JARRETT 16 YD PASS FROM MATT LEINART (RYAN KILLEEN KICK)
Drive info: 7 plays, 66 yards
10 23
TD 5:30 MARSHAWN LYNCH 2 YD RUN (TOM SCHNEIDER KICK)
Drive info: 12 plays, 80 yards
17 23

OK, other than for 1 minute and change before halftime, Cal never took the lead in the game and the closest they were was 6 points away. In fact, they were down 13 points early in the 4th quarter. So they may have gained more yeards than USC and had a chance in the end, but the game was not as close as people think.

ajax, stOoge and whomever else is posting on that Cal site... you need to straighten them out...

show that one poster that UT DID lose votes after beating aggy when Cal was dormant, and which was also Mack's plea to the voters...
also.. these guys need to understand that the computer polls are dynamic.. they crunch numbers and take into account the records/teams etc... it is quite possible that an ugly game like that against USM back in September would have had Cal at #5 in the BCS this whole time whereby making the argument a moot point... no one is entitled to **** under this system... the human voters determine how "pretty" your season was and what their emotions tell them... the computers just calculate... so regardless of when this game was played the computer rankings would have been the same and Texas would have been #4 in the BCS for the past 4 weeks instead of Cal, and therefore no grave injustice would have been done...

also.. with regards to these guys comments about the voters all of a sudden realizing they could have a real impact and not just voting their own status quo... wouldn't you want the people voting to actually pay attention to the teams and rankings and opponents?? wouldn't you want them to vote fairly?? I for one don't think expecting them to just vote however in the hell they feel like it without regards to fairness makes sense.. even if that is how most of them voted in the past.... for once they actually paid attention and made a real informed decision... and guess what.. Cal still came out ahead, but not by enough...

these people need to give it up... they'd all be swinging from shower rods if they'd have had to endure the unfair BCS crap that the Longhorns have...

SynTex - Your post made it to Rivals Orangebloods. Everyone liked it except for a few Cal fans. I wonder why? Way to go! I believe you may have "chilled their cookies".

Somebody needs to bust out the Photoshop on some pictures of Cal, Matt Hayes, John Lopez, et al and show how they just got OWNED!

This post underscores and highlights why I believe the major market media is useless. They are all in groupthink right now. They repeat each other, but nobody sits down to take the 3 minutes necessary to realize the computers ****** Cal, not the human voters.

The fact that several AP and coaches move us from 7-9 to 6 is not some wacked out conspiracy.

Why can't some intern at ESPN do this and run with the story? God forbid they actually use some independent thought.

Craig Way is awesome! Read it word for word on 1300 radio. Too bad he's not nationally syndicated

Is this an excerpt from your new book How to F the Haters and Get Results, SynTex? Will you please autograph my laptop screen?

Craig Way just read this entire post on his radio show. Outstanding, SynTex! You blew away all the silly arguments pertaining to the "injustice."
The computers all favored Texas, the voters Cal. Where is the bias, you Golden Gurus of Granola?

for what it is worth I sent the post as well as some comments by me asking the Sports Radio 610 morning show and drive time show to look at the facts and present them accordingly...

we'll see if it makes any difference..
