Ohio State

Line on the game started at tOSU -5.5; currently @ tOSU -6 (last time I checked). I prefer going into the game as the underdog. I hope Sark has the line splattered all over the locker room, team plane, bus, team hotel, bathrooms (including every toilet stall in Arlington), etc., etc., etc. ad nausium. Printed over a pic of a burning couch.

Good thing the game is at Jerry World with a roof and not the Cotton Bowl.

Remember the U Houston vs. Notre Dame ice bowl in the Cotton Bowl ? - think it was 1979 or 1980.
Yeah. Hopefully, the roof will be intact.

I had a good friend on that Houston team. Joe Montana.... At the time, nobody realized how good he was gonna be.

Yes! Joe Montana got hypothermia and they had to give him soup to warm him up. He came back in the game a led the domers to a comeback win over the U of H pussycats.

The bigger moment in ND FB:
Rudy being carried off the field (which Montana said never happened);
Or Montana’s heroics in the 1979 Cotton Bowl (Joe not Monty).

Reality: Woody Hayes was scared to play Notre Dame. He wanted a moderately easy schedule with the one big game vs. Michigan at the end of each year.

So Woody used the excuse that he just didn't have the heart to put the Catholics in Ohio in a dilemma of who to root for (Buckeyes or Irish), so he'd have mercy on Ohio Catholics and keep Notre Dame off the Buckeyes' schedule for that reason.

Still, all things considered, Woody Hayes was no chickensh!t. Now Joe Paterno--there was a chickensh!t.

In that era (1960s - 1970s) Northern teams (especially Big 10 + Notre Dame) were built BIG in the trenches. Their style of play was to brutalize their opponents into defeat in the trenches.

Southern and Western teams (including the Texas Longhorns) of that era were built more on quickness, speed, and grit.

I don't know the stats, but we were probably outweighed 10-15-20 lbs per man on the lines in our 1970 win over Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. Heck, Navy probably outweighed us in the trenches in the 1963 National Championship year. Still, our linemen were quick, fired out, and used technique and grit to hold their own or better.

Michigan in that era was used to mauling their opponents with their big brutish linemen. Yet they had trouble with the quick (but still strong) pulling O-linemen of USC and the ridiculously fast Trojan RBs in the Rose Bowls (as did Ohio State). Big 10 champs couldn't stop the old "Student Body Right" and "Student Body Left Plays" that put USC on the map.

I've been digging around, but I can't find a video of where Urban Meyer punched a cameraman or opposing coach or someone...

If Chop were a reporter at the Ohio State post-game press conference in that game above where Bo Schembechler's Michigan beat them and Woody Hayes punched the cameraman.

First question -- reporter Chop: "Coach Hayes, how does it feel to be outcoached by one of your former assistants?"

(Hayes throws chair at Chop and yells obscenities...)

Was the camera punching incident right after the 1969 Mich vs osu game, where Bo Schembechler 's underdog Mich team upset the #1 buckeyes 24-12 and #2 Texas moved into the #1 spot? Seems like some bad behavior after that game by Woody.

I've always remembered that score and where I was when I heard the news that vaulted Texas to #1.

The video shows the assault on the camera man at the end of the 1977 Michigan vs. Ohio State game.

I watched that game sitting on our couch when I was in HS. Interestingly, even though that was a Michigan/tOSU game, nobody ever set fire to that couch.. Although I think there were a few cigarette burns in it before it gave up the ghost.
I digress; I was stunned that there were NO reports of the assault from ANY media outlet, the B1G Corporate office or the NCADonothing.

Arlington-Choctaw Nation needs to hurry up and get that casino up and running next to the Rangers Baseball stadium.

A sad song about a sad State:

In all seriousness, that corner of the Country was done wrong for decades. Left behind by the Nation at large.
