no country for old men

I don't know if someone mentioned it earlier, but TLJ is shown unholstering his weapon and actually drawing it as he walks into the crime scene of Moss' hotel room, something he alludes to never doing throughout his career. This seemingly insignificant bit is actually very important. In the opening monologue TLJ mentions knowing many people that never even carried a pistol, let alone using it. His gun is a small metaphor for the old way of lawgiving he grew up with. TLJ realizes how out of touch he is with the times as he sits on the bed and ponders his retirement.

Here's one to ponder. Why does Moss cock the hammer back on his scatter-gun when Anton is standing on the other side of his motel room door? The reason I ask is because the scatter-gun he bought and modified was a pump. Nothing in there changes the fact that this was the best movie in a decade, however.

Cajun and I have been friends for over 20 years. We both own arsenals and have fired thousands upon thousands of rounds together. Many a jackrabbit has taken the dirt nap at our hand. I can't believe I'm going to answer a gun question for Cajun. The shotgun is a Winchester Model 97. It is a pump and has a hammer.

Lat22, I don't know much about shotguns, so this may be a dumb question, but does that model come with a longer barrel? In the movie it seems like Moss cut about 8" off the barrel when he modified it.

Thanks Lat. I really only noticed it last night and only at a glance. I was aware of that model, but it really looked like a Model 12 when he got it at the gun store. You forgot to add that many a rabbit has met its end at our hands just a three wood and pitchin' wedge from where that movie was filmed. Sometimes it's a hard world for the little things.

I wound up buying the dvd and just noticed something kind of peculiar.

On the cover of the dvd case there is a headshot of Brolin, Bardem and Jones. Under the picture of Brolin is "Tommy Lee Jones" and under TLJ's pic is "Josh Brolin".

Maybe I just have a valuable collector's item.

Moss calls Harrelson's hotel room just after Chigurh has killed him. Chigurh answers and he and Moss have their only conversation of the movie.

Any conjecture on why Moss was calling Harrelson? To take him up on the offer he made in the Mexican hospital room? To pump him for more info?

Let's see, I mentioned he could have called to take the deal, or to try to find out more about Chigurh. What part of that makes you think I thought "he knew Chigurh was there and wanted to talk to him?"

Moss calling to make a deal is at odds with his entire behavior to that point, and with his wife's statement to the sheriff that "he'll never give up." In a movie like this where so much of what happens is not fully explained it's entirely possible he was calling for a reason other than what seems so obvious to you. Maybe he just wanted to find out if Harrelson found the $ on the way back for instance.

Cajun, you really have no idea what you are talking about so just stop you youngster.

SL, sorry didn't mean to sound sarcastic. Moss was gonna talk more about the deal. I'm sure he would have made it had Chigurh not answered the phone. He did not know that he knew where the money was.

Well, as long as ole Texashorn is around then there'll always be two of us who have no idea what we're talking about. I'm cool with that if you are, sport.

Whatever dude. You just make me laugh as I picture you in this cubicle at work trying so hard to come up with stuff to say as you recall your glory years. That gives me a smile. How old are you? If your not 45 then you gotta be 14.

This movie was great, it made me think and some posts on this thread were great to read. I agree that Chugarr is symbolism for the evil that is taking over the country, I find it chilling that it was filmed in 80 and drugs have taken ahold there to the extent they have now.
One thing it did, like Fargo, was accuratly portray the people of that part of the country. I liked that.
With Chugarr being TLJ's imagination in the El Paso hotel, I a am skeptical. How does he imagine someone he has never seen?
Also, how do you feel about the number of scenes that were left to the viewer to decide if Chugarr killed them or not? There were several, like the guy in the chicken truck.

Well, I'm sitting in the Little Rock airport waiting to catch a flight out. I'd really rather be in a cubicle. I did that gig for American Funds in San Antonio for 10 years. Now I'm a road warrior. If you were trying to offend me by indicating your belief that I am young and/or sit in a cubicle while earning my living, I'm afraid that you've just added to you resume of Hornfans failures. Congrats!!!

Watched it last night with the missus. I had to stop it and inform her that she really needed to STFU and listen to the dialogue.
And she hated the ending. I came perilously close to sleeping on the couch.
Wimmin'...

The chick flick version finds Chigurh busting out crying to Carla Jean, repenting for his sins, marrying her, and taking a good honest truck driving job, The End. That movie sucks balls.

Speaking of, I'm sure it doesn't take much imagination as to what the title of the porn version would be

Well cajun, because you spend so much time on this thread you must really like the work I do.

Or either you are so pissed off that I have been on hornfans longer than you, that you must try to act like you know more about the filming of this movie than I do or try to out post me. You trying to get tenure with your posts?

I don't know dude. I was kinda hoping you were 14. Then there would be an excuse for your child like behavior. Calling me on "Hornfan failures"

, typing fail in all caps, etc. You keep on truckin in your Road Warrior stage. If you make it out to LA then maybe we go get a beer. You claim to be old enough.

Just saw where Bardem is filming Oliver Stone's "Killing Pablo", based on the biography of the same title and scheduled for a fall release.

In the film he plays infamous Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar, with Christian Bale as a US Special Forces Major.

Sounds like a good role for Bardem.
