New next food network star

I believe Adam went to Syracuse and was in the Theatre program (one of the best in the nation.) That would explain why he is so comfortable in front of a camera/audience. -- edit, I just looked up his bio on Foodnetwork.com and it says he's an actor, so there you go.

I was watching the show with my wife (a 2001 graduate from SU's musical theatre program) and she said she recognized him. Sure enough, she found his name somewhere as a '99 graduate.

Am I the only one who finds Kelsey to be a sweet and genuine person and not at all annoying?
I mean this annoying comment coming from the people who employ and make money off of Rachel Ray, the MOST annoying person on television? I am not saying Kelsey is the best or should win. The fact that she had an undercooked gratin was awful. My point is I wonder what the judges are thinking when it comes to her personality. (She is also not as annoying as Paula Dean)

Also, the Martha Stewart being on there and "I don't eat that food." & I need a fork to eat a sloppy joe? Seriously? How much more horrible can you get. If I were I finalist I would have mentioned something about time in the pooky and probably gone home for insulting the great insider trader...

Kelsey's problem is that she's trying to be Rachel Ray. She would bring nothing new to the Food Network. She might be genuine, but I do find her perkiness annoying.

Kelsey shoudl be a cheerleader not a food star. Nipa just has to go. You could see last night her spirit is broken. she is done, and her food is pretty much the same every week. You can only go so frekaing far with curry. Lisa and Aaron have to be front runners at this point. Not sure about Aaron on camera, but dude is bringing it with his food.

Lisa's food is fine, but I wouldn't watch her show if she had one. Not one time. Aaron is bringing it and I think I would watch him.
As I start thinking through the people who are left, I don't find any that seem that unique though. I can already think of someone on Food Network that they are very much like.
I also agree that they need to have some more/better Latin food shows.

If Guy Fieri can get a show on Food Network, Lisa definitely can. That guy is the ultimate douchebag. He wears a wrist band on cooking shows.

The main thing to remember is that their TV presence is #1. They've been judging them on their cooking ability, but nobody sitting at home will ever eat the food they cook on a show. Aaron is setting himself up for a big disappointment. He's got no TV talent at all. He may be a great cook, but he'll bomb on the Food Network. I'd never see myself watching a show of his.

In my opinion, Kelsey or Adam will win. Adam doesn't need a whole lot of cooking skills or great recipes. They'll tell him what to cook. Kelsey could possibly be fun to watch, but she'll need some professional coaching.

Adam, I could see it happening. I don't think Kelsey's going to make it much further. The judges already think she's annoying and she doesn't have anything else to fall back on.

here is what I find amusing the judges kind of seem to be annoyed with the talent they brought in. It appears none of them are really capable of being "stars" which would mean this season would produce no star, last season produced a total bomb, and season one guys are now gone too. Guy is the only "star" out of 4 seasons which bringd me to the point. When do they look at Food Marketing Lady and Mr Network Talent dude as the problem? They are largely the ones brining in these duds so should they not be held accountable at some point for not getting better people. The irony is each week they seem disappointed as a whole, but the reality is it is they who are the disappointment.

As much as I don't like Bobby Flay, he is the only one of the 3 judges that seems any good at what they do. I really am annoyed by the lady in particular.

I do like Guy's show. He doesn't have to know a great deal about food for what he does. He just has to have that over the top personality of his. He isn't a cook or have a cooking show, but what he does works for me in the format.

I feel bad for Kelsey, but Nipa is a drama queen and I guess lazy. That half sugar/cayenne (or whatever ratio) wouldn't fly with me. That is not cooking. I would have dumped her just for that.

I'm not sure it really matters who would "make it" as a TV star. Food Network is already getting what they want out of these people...a TV show now that people watch. If the winner bombs after this (or goes into reality show oblivion) what does Food Network lose? nothing. I doubt they have to pay the winner much.

spy, I am not familiar with that show. I have only seen Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, which seems to be on quite often.
I really didn't mean it to be a dig on Guy, as I like guy. The format of DDD isn't such that he has to be a great cook or all that knowledgable about food. I didn't say he wasn't knowledgable or couldn't cook. I was more making a reference to what 'type' of show the next person might get.

I don't think that Aaron's vinaigrette was a bad idea for something to market. Half of the Food Network's branded material is crap like that. He just doesn't have a Television presence to speak of.

I finally got to watch it last night.

First off, this show isn't Top Chef and it isn't really about who makes the best food. There were two competitions in that episode, both of which were only nominally about the actual flavors of the food. I mean if it sucked, that would be bad, but that it was good was a side note. Let's be honest, no one really thinks that Bobby or Emeril personally put together all of the ingredients in their packaged goods. I mean, I'm sure they approved the flavors and have used the products... but they aren't choosing the preservatives and fillers, that's on someone else. Which is to say, last night's competition was more about having the judgement to pick an item which was marketable (as opposed to a two item salt) and then just selling the hell out of it. Adam kicked *** on judgement and sales. Aaron and Lisa put together the best actual product, which is good but not the only thing (did you get the impression that Martha had a little jungle fever?).

I think the mistake of this show, is that there are actually very few people who can make a three camera, no audience, cooking show watchable. They are casting for something which is almost certainly going to fail... but then, as said above, that really isn't the point either, since the reality show is the one with the ratings. If the winner tanks, then they'll get their 10 (or whatever) episodes and a boot, it isn't like Food Network is maxing out their programming anyway. That said, it would be nice if they would drop the pretence of rules, and just go for the best program... which is to say, I would probably watch a show with Adam AND Aaron.

In any event, as to this specific episode... we have now learned that "thin ice" doesn't mean a damned thing. Nipa and Jeffrey both put out crap... but hers had almost no use whatsoever. If the damned thing is only good as a peanut coating, then why not just sell the damned peanuts? I mean seriously, that was the ultimate no brainer, and I'm not sure what "thin ice" means if that doesn't bite her on the ***. They sold it that she was saved by her potato soup, which is fine I guess, but her presentation sucked (I was rolling with Adam's though). Jeffrey was bad, don't get me wrong, but Nipa was put on notice and that should have meant something. I find the situation irritating, particularly that she didn't make the bottom group at all.

Shane is just too damned young. I saw flashes of the reason for his casting in his potato presentation, but the reality is this guy just isn't ready yet. Jennifer is as bland as anything, but she clearly knows how to cook. This means I respect her, even if I have to point out the fact she has no business being in this competition. I like Kelsey, and I thought her sloppy "jane" sauce was a great idea, Martha Stewart be damned. Most prepackaged items are for low end food anyway, and the sauce is multi-use. I agree that everything she says sounds rehersed (including the stuff you know wasn't), but she is a sweet girl. It should be noted though that I wouldn't watch her show for 5 minutes. Lisa (who shall for hereafter be known as "The Romulan") is good for this show. I don't know what that means, really, but I'll be sad when she goes. She clearly knows how to cook and has an angle on presentation (even if she has a problem vocalizing it), so who knows maybe once we know more about who she is, a Romulan show might be more appealing.

1. Aaron (0)
2. Adam (0)
3. Lisa (+1)
4. Kelsey (+1)
5. Jennifer (-2)
6. Shane (+1)
7. Nipa (+1)

O - Jeffrey (-2)
O - Kevin
O - Cory

I know they liked Nipa's potato dish, but they said she missed on the presentation, and then missed again with product and sales. All things being equal you would think Nipa's 1/4 beats Jeffrey's 0/4... 'cept all things WEREN'T equal, Nipa was "on notice" for exactly the same **** she did this episode, mailing it in. Jeffrey absolutely had a worse day, but Nipa should have been held to a higher standard after last week.

I didn't really notice Martha gushing over anyone but Aaron. Seems as though she came down on Jeffrey's salt and wasn't sure what to do with the Cherri-GAC (I 'dated' a girl who knew exactly what to do with a Cherri-GAC, btw). I thought her turning her hose up at Kelsey was a little out of line, though.

As to the romulan... I mean look at her, she's a SciFi freak!

Yea, Lisa just doesn't look right. Not trying to be mean. I think it is her makeup more than anything. She goes almost orange on her cheeks and then around her eyes is white. I don't get it.

Martha Stewart. While many people might like her. Man I can't stand her, and her pretentiousness with all of the contestants didn't sit well with me. She is just a smug punk in my book.

Lisa = Romulan? That's a good one. The wife and I thought she looked like Johnny Depp from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.

Well, I'm happy to say that I was wrong! NIPA IS GONE!

Still think Jennifer is next though, unless Shane just totally blows it.

Nipa has been in the bottom every time. She needed to go. Jennifer needs to go. Geez, seems they all kinda suck though Lisa I am finding at least somewhat talented with her cooking and somewhat engaging on camera. This inspite of her star trek issues.

Kelsey is the best IMHO. I always thought so. I think that she can tone it down and she knows how to cook, and she seems to have a good angle.
Shane did alright this week I thought as well. Adam could be watchable if he doesn't try to clown around so much.
I just don't get Lisa like some of you do.

They totally blew it with me with the second challenge last night. Seafood prepared with caramel, white chocolate, or marshmellow cream sauce? They should have refused to cook with those ingredients. It it total BS the Red Lobster bought into this and is going to feature the recipe on their menu.

The program is bogus. It is not about cooking good food that people would actually like to eat.
