Avery was just asked what he thought about the players conducting their own practice yesterday, he quickly said that's exactly what he wanted done. He was looking for leadership among the players - there needs to be a leader.

Sure seems awfully late in the season to be trying to find a leader on the team, not to mention to be so quick to take credit for that shrewd psychological tactic.

Ironic that Stack was playing the best when he got the 1st tech, yet got benched for rest of the qtr, and beginning of 4th. One theory is you let him cool off and then send his *** back out there and tell him to play smart but keep playing tough. Oh well.

Since when does pay correspond to talent in the NBA? When allstars like Eric Dampier are one of your highest paid players you can say that they overachieved. And when your highest paid player doesn't even play for your team you can say that the talent on the team doesnt in anyway shape or form relate to the payroll.

I wasnt trying to defend Avery, but look at the roster. It is not that talented. Even in the year they went to the finals they simply weren't that talented. We have no post presence whatsoever, we can't even post up from the guard position with any relative success. This team wins consistently without having anyone on the team that can routinely get easy shots. Yeah from the makeup of the roster I'd say this team has overachieved over the past few years. They really arent that good. And quiet as kept it's pretty difficult to rationalize firing a guy who has never won less than 51 games during his coaching career. But I'm sure it's been done before.

The biggest difference between now and when the Mavs went to the Finals is that everyone in the West has gotten much better and the Mavs have gotten older and worse.
