Longhorns vs. Cajuns

The last time we did that, Fred Akers was HC and Leon Fuller was DC.

On multiple occasions yesterday, we had CB on the right side lineup nose to nose, but we never touched the WR. Then back to fairly tight zone. Never appears we feared the long ball. Whatever it was, it worked.
What is the best way to get a note to Del Conte?

Good win by Texas. This was the type of matchup, like the Maryland one (both times!), that previous coaches lost.
My thoughts exactly. I think our previous two coaches would be at the Monday presser telling us the following:
1. Winning is hard
2. We just have to play better.

I think Mack would have had a good chance to lose this game as well, but I'll leave him out of this discussion.

There are likely two high NFL draft picks on their DL. Not to white-wash some less than pleasing OL play, but they have players also.
^^^Yes, and they were rushing 5+ (often 6+) guys to plug running lanes and hurry Card. The reason they broke through to hurry Card so often is that our RB's were going out to receive passes, NOT staying in to block. We scored points off this.
Also, Card demonstrated incredible pocket presence for a freshman. He stepped into the pocket, bought time with his feet repeatedly.
I am not worried about the O line. the LaLa Nose guard was as good as anyone we will see from the B 12. Plus they had a big time edge rusher and quick LB's that were coached well how to disguise blitzes.

Our team played well, kept its poise after getting punched in the mouth early. As the game wore on we just got better. I couldn't be more pleased from the standpoint of new QB, new head Coach, totally new systems on offense and defense.

So, the expectation was that they would be a better “team,” but we would have the better players. That they would be used to a winning way of playing, while we would be a work in progress, hoping to power through with better players.

What was most encouraging is that we looked like the better “team.” As far as better players, it was mainly Card, Whittington, and Bijan that were just better than what La. had on the field.

So, that formula should work every time against all the Baylors, Techs, etc. on our schedule. Based on this one game, it didn’t look like we had the talent to match the Georgia, Alabama, Ohio States, or OUs of the world, but maybe our team and scheme could keep us on the field with those guys.

I agree with you but we can beat OU this year.

OK. But...,
what if we had scored 50+ on LaLa? Wouldn't you say then that we had a decent shot at beating the teams you mentioned?

I think if we were to play LaLa at season's end, after our guys "break in the TWO new systems they are tasked with they could and would hang 50 on a good La La team.

You know that our defense is pretty talented, darn near the teams you noted. So after we get half a season under our belts, get settled in with the new staff's new system I believe our guys will be playing much better. Coverage and Blocking assignments will be understood and picked up on the fly in game most of the time.
One player will learn at a greater curve than all the others: Card. Because he has too. And because he is showing something that we haven't seen in a while. He is avoiding the interception and the fumble. It's because he is smart, has great football instincts and has a GREAT coach that is playing to his strengths and not putting him in stupid, dangerous situations that rookies shouldn't be put in. (Reference the dumb plays Herman called over and over that put Sam in high risk situations as a freshman. Like the fumble at the goal line against USC.)

So if we lose a game to an inferior team early (and I'm not saying we will) then that goes with the territory of new coaches on both sides of the ball. By the end of this season the Horns will be as good as any team in the big 12. We will win the B 12 championship game. Next year we will be competing with the biggest of the big boys. :ousucksnana:

For a nominal fee

I have a lengthy email going out this afternoon in response to the questionaire I got.
Please add that the speakers in the overhang of Section 2 need to be fixed - we could not hear anything. Also, a TV monitor showing the scoreboard would be nice. OR just send half of our season ticket money back because we do not get the entire game experience.

I was pleased with the team on Saturday - no stupid penalties, no turnovers. Intensity and physicality looked very good. For the first game, the execution was decent - not perfect, but very good for the first game. Hudson Card appears to be the real deal. And I was happy to see Sark follow through on his promise to get Thompson some playing time - you never know when you might need your backup to go into the game.
The O-line was okay - not perfect, but it was, after all, the first game. I like Dicker as a punter. Bijan is just what we expected - a real beast.
I like the outlook for the rest of the season. IMO, the team is not yet ready to compete with Bama, Clemson, Georgia, or Ohio State - but no one else is, either. OU could be a toss-up - the Horns will have to play a great game to beat them, but they have a real chance. Iowa State will be tough on the road. Other than ou and Iowa State, the Horns should be well-positioned.

Viper,

If you ask for that, you may get headphones to listen to Craig Way on delay.
That would be better than contorting around to try to read the text on the scoreboard. The seats themselves are good (even better in the rain) and the fan is right behind us.

If they prevent anyone from sitting in the upper deck, your problem is eliminated. That little temporary scoreboard that was placed where Bevo is, was placed there for Wally Pryor because Wally couldn't see the scoreboard when the upper deck dropped down. LAN did a nice design job, but that's the one thing they didn't count on.

Other reason we didn't score 50 was time of the scoring possessions. We only punted 2x and missed one FG. We just didn't have that many possessions.

After the weekend, I feel that Alabama Georgia and Clemson to be the ones we wouldn't beat but I think we are at least on par with Oklahoma Ohio State and Iowa State Penn State TCU

I am still trying to get use to that.

Totally agree. Very happy Thompson played.
I have been saying for years two QBs should be playing in every game.

I dont know.
Clemson looked horrible.
And we evidently only need 14 points to beat Georgia.
I get it. Their defenses are good but could they hold us scoreless?
Bama is the only real deal I saw over the weekend.

I basically agree with what you are saying. I think we can beat OU or perhaps one of the other top teams. But if so, it would be more like TCU has beaten us—teamwork, scheme and coaching to make our lesser recruiting pedigree players be positioned right to win.
My point is that the more decorated highly recruited team can sometimes be vulnerable to a lesser team (by player ranking) if the lesser one plays team ball, and unifies around a smart coach. (And especially if you have one hero warrior like Bijan to inspire the ranks.)
I am maybe overreacting, but I now believe UT is already a very well coached team with good scheme and player buy-in.

Card is at-the-least a game manager with accurate passes and decent escapability. With a little magic pixie dust, maybe he’s Joe Burrough.
I know that when Bijan or Whittington catch a ball in stride in the secondary, they are not going to be able to be tackled very easily.

I wonder and hope Thompson feels the same
I can almost guarantee you he doesn't and badly wants to be "the man".
Regardless of what Sark says publicly I am among those who believe keeping CT out of the portal to be the primary reason for his current approach. JMHO
