Longhorns in the Portal 2021

Interesting, this may prove well for the Huskers I’m thinking. I recently watched the Tech game again and made me scratch my head puzzled at how this could be the team ending with a 5-7 record. If he plays like that game, and has a reasonable OL it will be interesting. Regardless I wish him the best.

Happy to have Casey in Lincoln. With Adrian Martinez heading off to KSU, we had no established talent behind him, just a couple of Frosh QBs with "potential" on the roster.

The OL was young this year and will lose only 1 starter. It will return 4 starters, 2-3 with 2 years of starting experience. We lose our best WR (Toure) but have a solid group and I'm confident Mickey Joseph who was LSU's WR coach will have them ready. Though our #1 TE is leaving early it's also a very solid position group. If we can find a solid RB Thompson should be setup for success.

Scott Frost is handing over the offense to our new OC who was at Pitt this last season. It's doubtful we have as many called QB run plays which will hopefully bode well for our QB health. AM battled injuries every year he was in the program.

Still hoping we can also land Chubba Purdy, Brock Purdy's younger brother who is leaving FSU. Scott Frost needed an established QB given next year is truly a make or break year for him at NU.

SH I can tell that I think you’ll be pleased. I’m not the only one on here who felt positively about Casey but I definitely liked the young man and felt him a huge asset. From the bowl to the OU game I thought he was our answer. After that, well who knows. Kinda looked like the whole team - particularly the defense in general, was injured and not just Casey. Gonna be fun to watch and see how it goes.

Mark Whipple, the new OC/QB coach, had to the critical factor. He coached Kenny Pickett this last year, has been credited with Ben Roethlisberger success through is Superbowl season as his QB coach. If Thompson can approach a smidgen of the success that Kenny Pickett experienced this past season then Frost retains his job at NU and the Huskers bounce back from this frustrating season in which they were +60 in point differential and still finished 3-9.

IMO Casey will do very well with a decent OL in front of him. Don't know how good the Husker receivers are - any insight?

The Huskers lose their top WR, Samari Toure. They return Omar Manning who was the top JUCO WR a few years back. They've picked up 2 WR from LSU (Decoldest Crawford) and former 4*-5*WR Trey Palmer. Palmer had 30-334yds for LSU this past season.

Mickey Joseph already paying recruiting dividends via the Transfer portal.

This is a head scratcher. Best of luck to him.

If you believe the gossip on the pay boards, it has a lot to do with the emergence of Ewers and his preferences in workouts. Lots of Helm and Davis, but also Sanders apparently. Wish he would just switch to DE already.

So all these guys who hit the portal that haven't found homes. Are they still on our payroll or they just not in school in spring?

Theoretically, they could stay in the portal as long as they want to find a new home. So if they want to keep eligibility to play immediately at the new place OR if/when they stay at Texas, then they have to continue to go to class.

Adeoye - my guess is a low-level FBS school or maybe FCS. He's an IMG kid so he'll end up somewhere for sure.
Adimora - I think he'll actually become a S at a Power-5 school. Way too much upside from the Herman days that shows he has a head for the ball. I don't know if Lincoln Riley takes him to come back home to CA, but USC was a popular spot for UT transfers as of late.
Caldwell - Probably FCS at this point.
Foster - Same as Adimora. He's only available for a year, so I think a Power-5 school takes a chance on him and he plays a lot, similar to when John Bonney left. Tech might actually be a decent spot for him. He's a rental, so it's not like schools are going to have to break the bank for him.
Ghirmai - Hard to tell. He wasn't good in his limited playing time at Texas. My guess is a school like SMU where he can play and hide deficiencies against fairly pedestrian defensive lines. Also from the DFW area.
Tillman - Has a lot of years left, and because of that, I think it'll be similar to Ghirmai and more like an AAC or CUSA team that takes him for the long haul. Maybe USF or somewhere closer to home.
Woodard - I was actually kind of impressed with how he handled himself at Texas. I think that is worth a look from the Power-5 schools, but I wouldn't be surprised if he went somewhere like UH as he's from there.

If you don't know the playbook, consistently run the wrong routes, drop the ball, **** like that will happen.

Good luck to the young man. Great talent; I hope he can channel it in the right direction.

He'll end up at one of the Arizona schools.

Some updates from our own student athletes:

Bujcevski has honed in on a couple of candidates, but was waiting for his grad school program admission to happen. Friend wouldn't say which colleges... so maybe OU? Arkansas? Somewhere we aren't supposed to like?

BJ Foster to Sam State. One more year of FCS for them... I think he could actually do pretty well.

Late replying, but you're welcome. I was a Casey fan while he was at UT.

Best wishes to his future success!
