Longhorns in the Portal 2021

One of the things that irritates me about the Casey situation is do we know he’s leaving because of competition with Ewers or the insane (imo) hype. I would certainly be disgusted were I in his shoes. Not sure I like what this says to me about Sarks leadership among the guys. Same feelings I have about all the “it’s a culture problem” and not coaching or talent. Losing that many games in the last 20 minutes is not “culture” to me.

Yeah, I’m pissed we’re losing Casey.
When you are getting or courting the #1 overall prospect in the 2022 class there is going to be an insane amount of hype.
Sark had nothing to do with that nor could he have stopped it.
Current players are expected to help recruit for the future.
You don't think there will be an insane amount of hype if Arch Manning comes here?
Casey was not a Sark recruit.
He gave it his all but I think he just needs a fresh start.
Hell, when Simms signed on we lost just about every QB to transfer.

I just dont get how people fall so deeply in love with QBs around here who have yet to do anything really. Support them.. yes. Look for the best in them...yes. be hopeful and expectant/optimistic...yes. like them or see potential in them or whatever...yes.
But people around here fall in love with guys and act so upset or mad if something goes sideways or if anyone even speaks a word against them and get all pissy about it. Like with Shane.. now Casey. I dont get it.
And I'm not talking directly about you, Nashorn. It is something I have noticed and been baffled by around here for a looong time. Good guys..nice guys...team guys..people you like and support...fine.
But save the tears and moaning and defensiveness and all for someone who comes in here and rocks the place and then gets mistreated or run off.
Oh ..Yeah...I forgot..That doesn't really happen...

He's going to TCU - that should help our defensive stats next year.

Probably didn't feel so great about sitting around and calling his parents up for pizza money while the shiny new toy with the crazy mullet is walking in with a million-dollar deal signed and delivered.

Not saying the way we went about it was wrong but it is tough to sit and watch it happen. I compare it to Manny out trying to recruit and keep things together while Miami was openly negotiating with Cristobal.

And I don't get how people fall in love and throw a million dollars at a prima donna whose last game of any major substance was getting his a$$ handed to him as a high school junior by Austin Westlake. Hope he works out but I also think that many kids that come out of football factories like Southlake and Katy are aided by the success of the machine...

Don't get me wrong I am pulling like hell for Ewers... we have all of our eggs in that basket at the moment.

The TE as receiver thing doesn't really work if you can't use him on most downs as a blocker. With our OL, we really could not afford to have another guy on the line who could not block. I agree Wiley was the better receiver/runner between him and Brewer, but when it came to blocking, Brewer was vastly superior.
I do not disagree with your assessment of Wiley's shortcomings as a blocker. He's 6'7", 250 lbs. His blocking sucks because he doesn't want to do it, not because he can't.

Crap, still pissed. So now we got Ala game 2 and potentially a never played a down QB. One thing for sure Casey isn’t leaving for NIL reasons. So that makes me wonder further why Sark couldn’t keep him or if he encouraged him to leave. If that’s it I’m no longer high on Sark. Guess we’ll never know for certain just hear rumors.
I’ll get over it but right now I’m pissed.

Rain,

There are players that were born with a silver spoon in their mouth - see also Chrissie Sims. There are kids that have to overcome hardships to get the opportunity. One of my all-time favorite NFL players falls into that category because of parental problems. Casey had to overcome his dad's history and I applaud his father's changes in his life. Still that legacy was worn around Casey's neck in OKC. He comes to Texas, serves his time, graduates in three years. How can anyone not admire that story? Do I prefer him over another QB? Only if he earns it, which he did this year. Does that give him the keys to the throne room in 2022? Hell, no.

The kid did the right things, represented our University with class and dignity. I wish he would stay, but wish him the best. At the same time, I am not prepared to anoint one of the remaining three as the next VY. Prove it to me.

Maalik Murphy is still coming and I have a good feeling about him.
I know everybody wants to classify him as a project, but I think Ewers better watch his back.
If he is a prima donna that doesn't win games Maalik may run him over.

Oh believe me....I'm not in that camp either, LH. This osby an either or yo me and, while I do not know what is in the mind of CT, I dont necessarily see this having anything to do with Ewers specifically and his $$$.
Remember, Casey has already been in the portal before and had to be talked out of it. It is clear he wants to be the guy and I credit him for that and see no fault in it. You should believe in yourself and believe you can be the guy. Also, remember, though, he wasn't Sarks first choice even to start this season...without Maalik or Quinn...so he already has that in his mind. No...the seeds of this were here long before Ewers or NIL.
And again..I'm no fan of NIL developments, all these big $$$, wide open revolving doors for players, or a lot of what is going on with athletes in the NCAA these days. I dont see the issue with CT as a Ewers/$$$ deal primarily, though. Casey just wants to be the guy and he doesn't sense he ever will be here.

And Rain I do tend to pick a player or two and pull for them particularly. But not always the QB, often but not always. Right now I’m in Bijan and Worthingtons camp. Really like, not gonna spell it but 18 on defense. Sterns was my fav his Frosh year, especially after meeting his mom, but that was short lived cause of his, call it woke, attitude. So yeah I’m one of those that picks favorites, although not always a QB but I pull for them all, just have done favorites. Guess I’m just a simpleton old fart.

If Sark encouraged him to leave you can bet it was for his own good.
I beleive Sark always has the best interests of his players and the team at heart.
I remember when Card became starter Sark was asked what if Casey transfers.
He said then that the team would take precedence over any individual.
He also had already stated the QB position would be open competition before Ewers commited.

I agree with alI this. Good post.
True stuff there, Sabre.
And I have no negative feelings towards Casey. None of it is personal to me...that is my point. I like, support, and admire Casey no less than anyone else whose come here, worn the colors well, refkected some decent virtues, and put in work. Some people around here feel as if you arent falling on your face drooling over someone every moment that somehow that makes you anti-them or a big goon or whatever. Its illogical.

As if a person can't hold two thoughts at the same time.

Nah, Nash. I dont see you or it that way. You're all good to me.
I like simple, too. The man who raised me was born in 1914 (and I'm only 48).
I dont like a lot of this stuff, either.....

My "argument's" a little different.
...And probably not with you.

Maybe it could be the reason. With everything going I'm certain with the immense effort to get the recruits NIL deals we couldn't put the same effort into current players at the same time. This is all new and hard to juggle. Maybe he felt he wasn't getting the same NIL love considering he's been here competing his *** off regardless of results. I'm not sure but he has been here working his butt off and wish him luck.

Wow, don’t really know from where that comes. Hope it’s not aimed at me.
Malik is one I like, not yet even having stepped foot on campus. Same feelings toward him as Bijan when he was recruited from Az. They both were solid commits who talked positively and tried to bring others into camp. Lots of respect for that.

No...not you, Nash. Not at all.
Not even close.
:hookem:

Hate to see this, but it's for the best. Casey was awesome this year. I hope he lands at the perfect spot.

Awesome? He lost 6 straight games, without Biajn would have been 7. It's the 2nd time he's entered the portal. Let's be fair here. He quit, he chose not to compete.

I already see fans hating the 2nd highest rated QB of all time cause he's good. It's crazy.

When you call a kid a prima donna, kinda hard to believe you are pulling for hm.

Aggy’s starting QB, who led them to a win over Bama, is also in the portal. So is Spenser Rattler, who was supposed to win the Heisman this year. It’s what players do since the portal began. If they feel unloved, they move on.. The days of having a Baker Mayfield and a Kyler Murray on a team are over.

I’m not surprised Casey is leaving. I’ll be mildly surprised if Card goes. We’re betting the farm on Ewers. Hopefully he’s all he’s cracked up to be.
