Liverpool FC 2008 - 09 Season Thread

This Barry situation is ridiculous. Sounds like we're still pretty confident this will happen. I wish Barry would just submit a formal transfer request and be done with it.

The following article seems to paint a likely story about what happened during the course of yesterday.

No, I think it is the way the fat Spanish waiter goes about business. If there was no problem, why did Liverpool pay money to a charity of Tottenham's choosing? They tapped the player up, end of story. It's also why MON at Villa is so pissed off with the Scousers too.

If you don't think Raffa looks like a fat Spanish waiter, you have not been to Spain! He has that nickname for a reason.

Scousers, thieving little ******* with dodgy hairdo's and mustaches.

2 weeks til the season starts!

4 moves i'm still holding out hope for:

Pennant to Rovers - hopefully still in the cards despite villanueva signing
Voronin to anyone
Silva, Barry to LFC - not sure the Barry saga is quite worth it but he's a quality player and i'd like to see him in red. Sounds like we could get Silva from a cash-strapped Valencia for just under 20mil.

Also, we'd better not offload Benayoun. Very underrated player and i'd be discouraged to see him go.

08/09 - the title drought ends. YNWA

Stevie G is out for Lazio friendly and questional for the CL qualifier next week. Likely OK for EPL openner against Sunderland.

This from a thigh strain during the Valarenga friendly.

To save my fellow Reds from the search I just conducted, their is no TV of the qualifier on Wednesday - not even on e-season ticket. It WILL be on livefooty however.

Standard is ALL OVER us early. Reina has already saved one off the line and saved a dodgy penalty in the first 12 minutes.

We need to get sorted and FAST. Plessis and Xabi are being overrun in MF. Gerrard is on the bench and he may have to come in sooner rather than later.

49 MINUTES - UPDATE - no changes at the half. Hopefully RB peeled some paint, but so far looks the same

FULL TIME UPDATE - a freaking miracle we held out for a 0-0 draw. I believe we had no more than 4 shots all game, and only 1 on target. Standard had chance after chance (including a pen). How we didn't concede is a miracle.

Must get this sorted in the next few days or we will lose to Sunderland on saturday.

I'm going to go throw up now.

finally got one of the streams to work to watch most of the 2nd half. pretty ugly. torres got like 2 touches from what i saw. everyone just looked sloppy and standard was playing a level higher than usual (i've never seen them play but i think i'm safe in saying this). hopefully that showed us a lot heading into the season. i'm not terribly worried because we didn't concede (thank you pepe) and we were without some very key players. also, gerrard played 20-30 mins and looked pretty good. an ugly game but not a complete failure. YNWA

Count yourself lucky that you didn't see the first half. It was absolutely tortuous.

On the positive side, Holland plays Argentina on Saturday in the KO rounds, so we're getting either Babel or Masch back in time for next weekend. Based on what I saw yesterday, I think we need to root for Holland (we desperately need Monster in the mid-field). Xabi was dreadful yesterday. SOOOOO slow.

looked pretty bad today but torres pulls through. xabi alonso came on as a 2nd half sub and was at least a step up from plessis. keane and torres aren't feeling it yet.

i agree, pretty ugly today. but that's exactly what we've got to do, and between torres, keane, gerrard and others, i believe we've got the guys who can transcend a bad team performance and give us 3 points (at least against the sunderlands of the prem).

glad to get the win, but i really hope we get things figured out quick, and that babel, lucas and masch solve some problems. the mancs are right around the corner!

I never put much stock into Quaresma rumors anymore. I guess if Silva is off the board and we've got the cash, might as well. He's quality and would be an upgrade over Kuyt on the right side (even though i like Kuyt) in either the 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1

what are the latest rumors on Finnan? I don't feel like perusing to find them

What an unbelievable finish. We had no right to win that match. We were DIRE almost the entire game. Keane was probably the only player who even rated a 7 IMO.

Xabi may have just played the worst game I've ever seen someone play in a LFC shirt. Terrible corners, given the ball away constantly, passes that were miles long and OB. Aweful.

steee gerraaard gerraaaard

you gotta win the ugly ones. 2 for 2 on that front so far

the 3 pts away at sunderland looks a little more impressive after their win today

I love that we've had to listen to Spurs fans all summer long about how they're breaking into the Big 4 2 years in a row now, and they've promptly tripped over their collective d*cks 2 years in a row.

STEVE GERRARD, GERRARD
HE'LL PASS THE BALL 40 YARDS
HE'S BIG AND HE'S F*CKING HARD
STEVE GERRARD, GERRARD
