Another question is why were our tight ends underutilized. You can't tell me they can't find a soft spot behind the linebackers a la Jason Whitten for a first down every once in a while.

I saw Brewer wide open a couple times, but Sam really doesnt have eyes for him

All Texas can do is win the Big XII CCG and hope. Alabama (for sure) and Clemson (probably) are already locks for the CFP.; tOSU (as long as they win the B1G and have no more than one loss - B1G will really fight not to miss the CFP 2 years in a row); that means the Big XII, the $EC runner-up and the PAC-12 champion fighting over the last spot. The bad news - a one loss $EC will be slotted over a one loss Big XII Champion. The good news: 1) the PAC-12 is probably already eliminated; and 2) the pressure to expand the CFP to 8 teams will increase.

A side thought. I watched two games yesterday involving sec team; Clemson/aggy and LSU/Texas. In both I saw sec players being dehydrated, cramping and leave the field with minor injuries. These sec guys are supposed to be the top of the elite players. Didn't see any Texas players leave due to that, same for Clemson. Some of it might have been a ruse to stop the game and get a free "injury timeout", but particularly in the aggy game. they looked out of condition. Any Thoughts?

Two holes in our game...Running Back and DBs.

DBs, yes. RB, only in the sense that we aren't deep because of all the injuries. But based on what I've seen the first two games, Roschon should be starting over Ingram. There is just more......something there.

I like Ingram, I really do, but my eyeballs say Roschon is the better back long term.

I told my wife last night that we'd likely drop to #12. But do I think we are a top 10 team? Abso-freaking-lutely. And after the years we spent in college football Siberia, I'll take #12 right now. We keep winning through the ou game and we'll move up.

Besides, the only rankings that matter come out November 5th. Everything up until then is just for water cooler/Hornfans talk.

so Texas #9 loses in hard fought contest to #6 LSU and drops 3; Michigan ranked higher in both polls and loses to unranked Army and only drops 3 slots....

Logic?

The logic of the polls.

LSU, by virtue of beating #9 Texas, moves up 2 spots to #4. Therefore, since beating Texas and moving up, Texas must be really good, too. Let's vote them down. That makes sense.

Agreed.

That may be right the vast majority of the time. But, as with other positions, there are some JC players out there who mature late, were overlooked, were misevaluated, or came from unheralded programs and flew under the radar.
True, but that is why you mortgage the house to get Kelee Ringo.

Uhm ....

TBH Joe Burrow kind of surprised me as well and I believe his destiny is to be drafted by the New York Giants and become the 6th Burrow of New York.

LOL that is a great take.

We stop them on 3rd and 17 and we would of won, that's what I'm muttering to strangers this morning.

Lots of opportunities to say we do this and we win. Two very good teams going toe to toe. We had our opportunities to make game changing plays and missed some and got others.

What’s Robinson doing these days? I wonder if he’s too old to come in as a defensive consultant again to give us a little help...

(Not sarcasm)

We have Beaty on staff, he is a great defensive coach.

Honestly, the worst thing that can happen is 1 loss Texas is denied because they gave the 4th playoff spot to 1 loss Bama or LSU. We need tOSU to get two losses and or all other SEC teams besides the winner to have 2 losses.

1 loss Texas vs. 1 loss LSU, you already know LSU gets the playoff spot.

As of right now I actually think Texas is one of the top 5 teams in the country. Clemson, Bama, LSU and then there is Georgia, tOSU and Texas right there for the next 3 spots. blOwU is right there if we are talking offense, but their defense is still the suck.

Bias...Actually 2-3 spots is about right. The Horns will gain it back in the coming weeks.

Its all $EC based..... Had it been the other way around and we had won they would have moved them down a couple of spots to 7 or 8 and us just below THEM.

I bet they don't have pee charts.

1. Some of it was likely Bush league faking it to slow down our hurry up O and get their D a breather.

2. There are two parts to Strength & Conditioning and they’re both important. Both LSU and UT squads have the strength part down. We also have the conditioning part down, they don’t (at least at DL).

3. Tom’s methods may be a bit goofy with the pee tests, but the rationale behind it is sound. Stay well hydrated.

Oh, I very much hope we get Ringo. I also don’t like to put all the eggs in one basket for need positions. See our recent RB recruiting. I’d take 2 good CBs per class—even if we were well stocked at the position. Maybe more now due to need.

JC DEs and LBs have contributed well for us in times of need, why can’t JC CBs?

On the same general topic, I think Caldwell will develop into a monster for us at CB—after 2-3 years. He’s redshirting this year.

Falling to 12 is about right and is meaningless. We win out and I think we have a pretty decent chance. But in the Big12 you always are at risk with 1 loss. What's crazy is OU has played no one. And it won't hurt them as long as they don't lose. But I think games like last night prepare us to play the OUs. Let's win the conference for the 1st time in a decade and worry about the playoffs another day.

The announcers we're talking about how Texas hasn't had an offensive first round draft choice since VY. To me that is mind-blowing. The university of Texas. The last 13 years. Shirley they jest.
