Johnathan Gray

caryhorn, "The big East and the Frogs move closer in talent by 2012, not further apart" does not sound like a prognositcation.

I am not saying it means TCU will be a better football team (if talent always meant that, Texas would've been better than Boise last year), but TCU is getting more talented relative to the BE, not less.

deserthorn,

why would Patterson leave? He is TCU's JoePa. He has tons of money, fertile recruiting ground, a wife from FW and tons of alumni financial support without the expectations to match.

Only 2 jobs I think he would leave TCU for are Texas and OU (maybe LSU) and I don't think Texas would ever hire someone like him.

prognostication is a prediction. It is not a proven fact. But I do predict that TCU will not have a cakewalk through the big east in 2012 and beyond. That is all. I could be totally wrong. But hey, this is an opinion board right? We'll see as things pan out.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think every single person who looks at recruiting would disagree. Why do you think the BE would be closer to TCU in talent in 2012?

Not trying to start an argument; just genuinely curious what would make someone think that.

gdu,
you may look into and follow recruiting more closely than me. OK. There are lots of things that contribute to winning games. Not just recruiting. So if TCU wins the Big east every year, GREAT!!. I really don't care one way or the other. In fact, I will be rooting for them. But my opinion is, and its just that, one person's opinion, they will have their hands full with the Pittsburgs, W. Virginia's, U. Conn's and Syracuse's, and Rutgers of the world.

TCU just lost their VY and Texas '05 class. They were as good as anyone in the country the last 2-3 seasons. No there gone and TCU will have a hard time duplicating that magic. I say they're a 10-2 type this yr and maybe 9-3 1st yr in BEast. Still very good, but no star QB/ leader means your not as good

I hear what everyone is saying but let's step back and look at the landscape. Even in a down year for TCU in 2011, they still will play only two games that they have better than a 50/50 chance to lose (Schedule). Staying with the topic, Texas offers Gray a great education and a chance to strut his stuff on the BCS level. TCU offers him the chance to strut his stuff weekly in the nation's largest media market and on the BCS level all the while staying close to home.

Overall the BE is only marginally better (if better) than the MW in football so with a year's experience by 2012, TCU will be the class of the BE. In all other sports TCU will be at the bottom of the BE (I cannot imagine TCU winning more than 2 BE BB games anytime soon).

caryhorn, you brought up "talent", which isn't the same thing as how good they are. TCU, with Patterson, is always better than the "talent" they have (and they will have more talnet in 2012 than they ever have). TCU will excel as long as Patterson is there. And you must not have watched much football the last 5-10 years if you think TCU is going to struggle with Rutgers and Syracuse any time soon.

TCU plays an awful schedule this season, but could lose up to 4 games with road games at Baylor (opener), Air Force, Boise and SDSU because they are very young in a lot of places. They will be reloaded in 2012 (and get OU and Virginia at home that year plus the BE conference slate). They may not go undefeated, but you don't have to to win the BE.

Isn't this thread about J. Gray? WTF is all this **** about TCU & Big East. Go start a new post if you want to argue about those ******* cockroaches!

HousHorn, the struggle for Gray basically is down to Texas and TCU (and aggy if you want to believe aggy). Due to TCU's impending move to the Big East, in this specific instance Texas does not hold any advantage over TCU as Gray will be on the national stage with either school.

"In all other sports TCU will be at the bottom of the BE (I cannot imagine TCU winning more than 2 BE BB games anytime soon)." _________________________________________________________ BB does not qualify as all other sports. TCU will dominate in baseball and track & field. I'd like their chances in golf, soccer and swimming. In men BB, TCU and DePaul will share the beatings. In women BB they should at least be middle of the pack. Overall, I'd say they're a big dog in 3 of the top 4 (fb, BB, Baseball, track) and very few schools can say that in any conference. Of course, in the northeast, the top 4 sports may be BB, rugby, polo, and crew...

Back to Johnathan Gray. Is there any reports on how his visit to TCU went? Did the Fort Worth Star Telegram have anything to say about it?

I've been checking Hornfans daily to see if there is any news. Johnathan, you need to make your new home Austin "TEXAS"

I think he seems like a rational kid who is looking for the place that feels best. I doubt conferences will enter into his decision.

I really respect that he is staying in state and wish him the best whatever his decision.

Personally, I think the Big 12 muffed the Wonderlich not adding TCU back in the day and time only makes that more abundantly evident.

ViperHorn.

It's not about the population or Los Angeles would have a pro football team. The Big East really has no history of great teams for an extended period of time and they are just not supported. UCONN lost money in the Fiesta bowl because they didn't selling their tickets. They lost about $3 million and were playing in a BCS bowl game.

I-35, exposure wise TCU will have greater daily exposure playing in the BE just due to the shear number of people in the BE catchment area. This translates to Gray not losing national exposure by staying close to home rather than going to Texas.

If you don't buy this argument, I don't want to hear anything about the "Eastern" press and their prejudices again.

Hate to say it, but Rutgers and Louisville don't bring too much exposure. They have a lot of TV's in the area, but those TVs aren't tuned to Big East football.

Viper - no one cares about Big East football. If he went to TCU he would not get near the exposure as if he went to Texas. And his parents would have to travel long distances to 5 games a year.

TCU would not have gotten to the level they are now - which really is a national power - toiling it in the Big 12 the past 16 years. So nobody muffed anything. Kudos to the Frogs for kicking *** in the minors so much that the whole nation took notice and they are now poised to be the power in their own BCS conference.

Johnathan Gray will decide between UT and TCU based on a lot of things, and I have an idea that conference affiliation will be way down the list, if at all.

I don't get slamming the Frogs in this post. What they've done since Francione first came on the scene in Fort Worth is pretty amazing, more so because Gary Patterson, with no head coaching experience, took over for Francione and not only maintained the product, but vastly improved it over the last decade. TCU's a lot more than an afterthought on the national scene.

All of that being said, UT offers Gray the biggest of stages to play on and it wouldn't surprise at all if ultimately, he brings his talent to the Horns.

I'd just rather see a positive sell of UT's advantages over a negative sell of TCU. Both schools have a lot to offer Johnathan Gray.

Viper, again like someone said already, nobody cares about the BE. Their product isn't good and only the hardcore college football fans on the east coast tune in. I don't blame them. I would be tempted to watch the animal planet before watching that pathetic conference.
