Looks like defense contractors are calling the shots again
When were they not?
One thing that worries me about the defense industry is how little competition there is now. During World War II, there was a shitload of companies selling big stuff like aircraft. Obviously, there was some consolidation after the war, which was to be expected and more after the Cold war, but now there are very few. We've got Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, and General Dynamics, most of which are several old companies merged into a few. They aren't the only ones, but they're the big ones. Furthermore, there isn't a lot of competition between them anymore, which has to make one doubt that the military is getting very good deals on what they buy.
