Biden Deserves Credit, Not Blame, for Afghanistan

I know she is not a liberal but Ann Coulter is very complimentary about Biden just getting out.

I am withholding judgment about his accomplishments. After all, his predecessor spent four years in the office and we have nothing to show for it except a lot of laughter at our expense from everywhere else in the world.

I am not real optimistic but then I didn't think much of him to start with and did not vote for him----or any other successful candidate for president since 1988. Or anybody at all since 2004.

I was reading Robert Gates' last book a few weeks ago and noted that Biden was one of the people who joined Gates in opposing us getting into the clusterfrug that was Libya. Obama listened to Hillary instead, with some pretty poor results for Libya. I am sure there have been other instances where he got something right. I just don't know what they were.

Here is a thought for how pokey Joe might put a notch on his pistol: he seems upset about the new Texas anti-abortion bill.

How about taking those military planes that took off empty from Kabul and bring them to Texas, load them up with women seeking abortions and fly them to states that still allow them, pay for it out of spare change from the infrastructure bill and then fly them back?

Imagine the evening news coverage: brilliant move to avoid disaster, a brave new champion of women's right to control their own bodies, finally a creative non destructive use of the bloated military, etc.

Ok, somebody working for him put together a list of good things that happened on his watch. Obama's guys did the same; taking credit for stuff they had nothing to do with.

He appointed some good people to the Supreme Court---any republican would have and in fact all three were on Scalia's wish list according to Garner.

The tax cut was by a republican controlled congress and they would have passed it if Mickey Mouse had been elected. All republicans pass tax cuts.

All the rest is a lot of wishful thinking. He inspired confidence here, brightened promise there, etc.

Almost every person I know who voted for him last year held their nose and did it only because the democratic nominee was so bad. Which was why he got elected in the first place. He beat Hillary and lost to Biden. Some accomplishment.

We haven't had a president who was up to the job since Eisenhower.

That's ridiculous. The Israel / UAE mutual recognition is a huge change the middle east. UAE is the second most powerful and influential country in the Gulf, and to have them have full relations with Israel is the biggest diplomatic change since the 77 Camp David accord.

Politically, his wife's bad driving was the best thing that ever happened to him, and he rode that sympathy train more times than he did Amtrack - even smearing the driver with the dirty lie that the driver was drunk, which was an out and out lie.

I'm not sure I understand the Ike praise. I'm not a big critic, but I don't see much of a case that he was uniquely good. He didn't have any massive screwups (though he kinda started our involvement in Vietnam). There were few significant legislative accomplishments either way. He appointed Earl Warren and William Brennan to the Supreme Court. If you like the people Trump and Republicans appoint, those two are as bad as it gets. They practically invented the "who gives a **** what the law says?" mindset.

Yeah, plus doing squat when the commies invaded Hungary and crushed their freedom movement, throwing his lot in with Egypt and Nasser in the 56 Suze war instead of siding with the democracies of Israel, France, and the UK.

As stated, his Supreme Court picks were disasters that drove the path of the courts the wrong way for 40 years, and he was spiteful towards his own VP Nixon in the '60 race instead of being and man and helping him win.

But as with most if not all Republican presidents, while he was scorned at the time (one joke was that he needed Chapstick when he read to himself), he was soon rehabilitated to be able to contrast him against a newer, far worse Republican.

Ike wasn't crooked like Nixon, Nixon at least wasn't a crazy cowboy like Reagan who'd get us in WWIII, Reagan at least wasn't crooked like Bush, Bush at least wasn't stupid like W Bush, W Bush at least wasn't meanie like Trump, Trump at least isn't even more meanie than DeSantis, etc.
