I'm not by any stretch on the means a meterologist, but I have taken some classes at UT in the past and keep up with the weather almost daily. Hurricanes in this part of the country always veer to the northeast...always (the westerlies pick up around 30 degress North latitude and push them back to the east). The only reason the models had this storm staying so far south as they did/do is b/c of the strong upper level High pressure sitting over us right now. If this High buckles or isn't nearly as strong as the models think, this storm will head northeast i.e. Freeport, Galveston, High Island, even Sabine pass.
Another thing to note about Hurricanes is that the strongest part of them are the foward right quadrent. (most of the time the northwest side) So if and hopefully for Texas fans sake is that this thing will veer to the northeast and hit somewhere north of galveston bay and leave us on the "dry" side. There will still be some showers and be windy, but nothing to worry about, let alone cancelling a game!
Like someone said earlier, bring lots of beer and a poncho and we'll be in for the best game of the year in my opinion.
