Horns vs Wyoming game thread 2023

Bama looked like crap the whole game really
It was weird seeing them appear so incompetent against USF
That's what a college team with an NFL caliber QB for the last 5 seasons or so ends up looking like when their current QBs well, aren't NFL caliber.

Remember what happened to us when Colt graduated? Bama is getting to live that hell now.

Agree. One take on their game Saturday:

Saban played the other two QBs yesterday knowing that neither was as good as Milroe. He knew they could beat USF regardless, although it was much closer than he expected.

So now he goes back to Milroe, and the fan base and second-guessers will accept it.

Of course, I’ll probably be wrong…

Saw true frosh playing on defense in addition to Hill: Muhammad and Derek Williams. I don’t think teams can handle us for 4 quarters. Conference play will be interesting.
Tapp and Finkley played as well. One is a sophomore and the other a redshirt freshmen. Basically 5/11 positions are being filled with a significant amount of time by young’ns.

I think this is exactly what he did. I mean, he did get a chance to see whether possibly one of the other guys was better, but mainly he was showing the fan base, “see, I was right about which guy was best.” Personally, I think Milroe will be very good.

Well, Strong had all the ingredients...but the cake still had to bake. Again.

Irony was Strong watching the oven from the Alabama defensive staffing room...

It would seem he isn't much of a pastry chef.

If this team thinks that beating Alabama means everyone will lay down before us they better think again. Every team is going to give us their best shot every week and unless we are prepared to bring our A game week in and week out one of them will slay th we new king.

Could be, dunno, but Buckner sure sucked and Simpson wasn't much better. Musical QB's isn't gonna work especially when the best one is sitting on the bench. Milroe may not be Young, but he's decent and his ability to run changes the game.

Saban going down this path may be the beginning of the end for him.

I see a lot of drops due to improper hand technique. Often a football will go through the hands especially if the ball is thrown with some speed. One hand should be in front of the nose of the ball. Then the other pins the ball to the other hand. This prevents the ball from going though the hands.
I agree we could make better use of Worthy. I have always liked the way Worthy runs YAC. He runs with a nasty disposition.
We used Mitchell well in the first half then we went didn't.
And we should went deep at least once.
I've been saying that and it keeps happening. Is Chris Jackson not teaching them how to catch a ball or are the WR's so stubborn they're refusing to learn? It's an issue that Sark needs to address and fix immediately.

I read Sark said something about Wyoming using a completely new defense against the Horns. Apparently it caused his play calling to be very conservative. Ewers tried only 3 passes of 20 or more and didn’t complete a single one. He’d better quit letting their defense dictate our offense. I imagine blowu and others sat up and took notice.

I watched Wyoming beat Tech. They're a good team. Better than USF, I'd guess. The shine of your Bama win dropped a little. :)

When you guys were down and tied I was scrambling to find the LHN but couldn't. An Okie who's a huge horn fan went to his first game in Austin last weekend for his anniversary. His kids throw the hookem at me for fun. For him, I'm glad yall won. I was feeling guilty when the smile was on my face when it was tight. He may have never lived it down around here.

Yes, he said that. I immediately thought Mack Brown type excuse. What was he expecting?? For them to do the exact same thing they did against tceh?? Guess what Sark, Jumbo Fisher isn't their coach.

I have the upmost respect for Sark, but this — “they threw a defense at us that we hadn’t seen” — is getting old. TCU, Bailor, Rice and now Wyoming. With the talent we possess this year, this cannot continue to happen.

I think a good way to determine if your team is focused and engaged is to see how many illegal procedure penalties they make. Against Alabama- little if any, Wyoming- Several. I think their minds let them relax because it was Wyoming. They knew in Alabama, they couldn't afford to relax for one play. Thus, we had a scare and didn't play well for a while.
The team must have realized that a loss to Wyoming would be the most humiliating thing to happen in their lives and finally woke up. An opposing team with more talent, would have won that game. Then again maybe we would have played harder against a team with more talent.
Time will tell, but next week Baylor fans could be storming the field if we don't play with passion and anger, in all 4 quarters.

The team has to learn how to win, and win every week. None of them have done it since HS. I hope their learning curve is steep enough to keep this season looking extremely special.

So are you on record advocating that we call plays that go directly into the strength of their defense, rather than attacking the weak points?

I think you gotta trust that your guys are better than their guys and run your offense. Don’t crawl under a rock and just run little passes behind the LOS.

Maybe I’m wrong on this but I thought as an offensive coordinator you dictated how the defense aligned to your formation and planned what plays you’d attack them with.
I’ll hang up and listen.
