Horns vs TCU series

Serious question - I always liked Nixon - how is he doing at Miss St this year? (I think that’s where he went…).

Decided to not be lazy and answered my own question (btw there’s this thing called Google…).

1-1 this season
12 appearances
62 batters faced
2 saves
Era 1.88
14 IP
19 SO
7 HBP
5 walks

Seems OK - but stats don’t blow me away.

Those are pretty good numbers for Nixon this year--except for the 7 HBP (ouch--that's getting his at 95mph+).

I guess he needed to start-over and had some mental hang-ups around here. That, and maybe he wasn't especially fond of the last pitching coach. I wish him well, as should all Longhorns. Nixon was a key part in getting us so far in 2021. We were about 1 inning away from the finals where we would probably have won it all.

The scouting also caught up to Nixon, and people started chasing fewer balls down in the dirt. Nixon made made a living off of those sliders dropping sharply down into the dirt in 2021. Cool pitch, but you can't overuse it against sophisticated batters with good scouting. That, and he seemed to lose control of his fastball in 2022.

Texas leaguer to CF. Witt is throwing around 93 mph. Living a little high in the zone.

Daly charges in to make the out on a slow roller. One away. Runner advances to second.

Powell!!

Ground ball to third. Powell Gunned him down at the plate!!! And Guillemette (legally) roughed the runner up a bit.
