Horns-Pokes Game Thread

Yes, and I'm quite sure at this very moment they're engaged in some serious introspective soul searching, you know, to learn and grow and get better from this experience. I hope not one of them feel the slightest twinge of regret or sadness, you know, we wouldn't want to jeopardize their emotional well being. In fact, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind each and every player that God and their mommy loves them.
Unfortunately, it appears that they don't care. Three games in a row (another 2 TCU drives and that would be an "L") that the team just quit plus a total game when they were not mentally ready to play (pigs).

Quick pass to wide open seam route to TE does the same thing. You know like we used to do when David Thomas. Damn, that was ages ago.

Did we complete a single pass to a TE? If so, I don’t remember it.

Edit to answer my own question: NO. All catches were by WR & RB. I don’t think we targeted a TE either.

Nothing Sark does, short of any of the West Mall crap Herman pulled, could make me wish that Herman was still the head coach at Texas. Even that wouldn't make me like or want TH back. It would just be time to move on to the next head coach...

Out scored 25-7 in 4th by OU and 16-0 by OSU. That’s amazing. I can’t remember anything close to that ever happening to us before. We’ve invented a new way to lose.

Let's see.
Counting Mack we're on, what, our 4th coach in nine years?
And each time we expect the new coach to come in and take the last coaches failures and zoom to a conference title in the first year.
Hell, Strong was so loved by his players that they couldn't even beat Kansas to save his job.
This program has been semi-crap since Mack lost his desire to recruit.
I think Sark will succeed here if given time.
Didn't the mighty Saban go 7-6 his first year at Bama.
We aren't going to be a rolling ball of butcher knives anytime soon.
I am impressed with our first half game plan and execution.
It's a mystery why the team comes out the second half and suddenly the offense implodes with penalties, sacks, fumbled snaps, etc., putting us in 3rd and long situations and I'm sure blowing up whatever game plan we had.
And I think Sark is right that, at this point, rather then fight through it and get back on track, the team mentality is "Crap, here we go again".
We need a VY type personality on this team.
He was always a calming voice when things went bad. "We got this"
Maybe Malik? Manning?
There just seems to be no on the field leadership presence on this team.

Either:

1. Lousy halftime and late-game adjustments compared to the opponent’s halftime and late-game adjustments; or
2. Lousy conditioning, again, compared to the opponent.

Or both 1 and 2.

oh yeah, and also clamming up and getting way too conservative with a second half lead.

I did not get to watch the game but listened to some. Nor have I read these 22 pages of posts. For now I am in these coaches’ corner. But it is concerning when the game changes at half time and one team has their offense stymied and the other team starts moving the ball better. Coaching adjustments? I just do not understand the failure to move the ball in the second half. But I did not see the game.I understand what a bad O line can do to a q'back. Been there. But that is the time to adjust. Maybe move the pocket, set up deeper, more roll outs. I don’t know and don’t get paid for my dumb ideas, but I might draw one up in the dirt.

D talent is not good, but even good talent will wear down with repetitive three and outs by the offense. Several times Mack got way behind against the Mullet and made half time adjustments and blew him out in the second half. It seems to me that in the last two games the other sideline made the adjustments and Texas made none.

Again I am in these coachs corners but feel that the grim reality is that our guys got outcoached in thr last two games. Don’t hate in me and I hope you tell me where I am wrong because I want to be wrong on this one.

I was at my first game in two years...all gas and no brakes...********! Casey was in shock after the pick6 and maybe the coaching staff too. Casey has been my choice since the bowl game, but why not make a change? Too late, just like at Arkansas. The coaches got outcoached for the 2nd week in a row, and Sark threw the players under the bus within the first 2 minutes of his last presser? Wow

Ok I’m a Casey homer, have been from the get go but even I could see he was not right. The pick 6? Well that turned his whole demeanor so if I/we can see it why couldn’t the coaches who see him on the field every day(well 5days a week)? Why couldn’t someone talk him up? I think that hit knocked him silly too. All are reasons to give him a break and play next man up. Really disappointed about that.
I continue to believe Casey is a good qb that can do great things but he’s got to get over whatever and he has to get some time to throw, witness the accuracy on the long ball when he had (barely) just enough time to get rid of the ball.
Nevertheless I’m counting on a good decision from Sark and will be behind whomever trots out against Bailor which will be a very tough game. No one goes into a 2nd half with us thinking they cannot win now regardless of score. That is sad.

I’m right there with you. Unless he has a broken rib or the thumb is more serious than we had thought, I think he will be fine in two weeks. With this caveat: The OL has to give him “some” protection.

Sark did not adjust to an obvious problem after the first drive of the 2nd half. If Casey’s not right, and/or if the play calling isn’t working, you have to make changes. Sark didn’t, and that bothers me.

It bothers me also. Does this mean he has lost all confidence in Card? Doesn't care if Card Portals out?

I thought Casey didn’t look right after the pick six. Also, I thought the monster hit he took should have been called a penalty. Rodríguez drove him into the ground with the crown of his helmet. The big 12 refs certainly seem to be very unfriendly to the Horns. Don’t know if that has anything to do with leaving for the SEC. Finally, on the coaches, I never understood why we couldn’t pay coaches for performance. $500k a win and a $1 million kicker for a conference championship and $2 million for national championship. Yeah you could end up paying $8 million bucks but I don’t think anyone would complain having to write that check. Hell, I would even make it richer. The guaranteed money is demotivating for coaches. In the back of their minds they know they are getting their contract so they really have nothing to lose. Let’s be innovative.

I thought is this today. Could Sark slow tempo and run BR and RJ more in n the 1st Qtr. Then situationally run tempo later in the game as a change up. We were uptempo a lot in the first half and gassed out the O Line. And yes, Casey was prolly worried about Card taking his job after the pick six. Forcing his throws, thinking too much! He never recovered from that pick!

Plays by yardage in the 2nd half:

38, 19, 12, 9, 8, 5, 4, 3, 2, 2, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, -2, -2, -4 -4, INT.

22 total (not a lot for a half, 35 or so is more normal).

Only 11 gained yardage. More of them were negative than were over 10 yards.

thanks for that post, stat.
Eye-opening
It's easy to see we needed to attack the edges via misdirection, bootlegs, edge-sweeps, five and outs, wheel-routes, tightend throws and especially passes to the Robinsons in the flats.
