Game thread Texas versus Colorado

In the last 25 years, we've had 6 players rush for 170+ yards and a TD in consecutive games (one of them did this twice)

Can you name all six?

-Ricky Williams (1997 and 1998)
-Hodges Mitchell (2000)
-Cedric Benson (2004)
-Jamaal Charles (2007)
-D'Onta Foreman (2016)
-Bijan Robinson (2020)
i love these trivia questions. Got 5 of the 6 but guessed Shon Mitchell instead of Hodges.

During the first half, the announcers mentioned something about Sam basically calling out the coaches during a previous game saying something along the lines of “are we going to keep the pedal down or let up like we always do?” They mentioned that Tom laughed it off and told Sam “how about you let us coach?”

Man, I’d have loved to be an assistant or trainer or something that was witness to this. I don’t think Sam was joking, and Herman laughing it off couldn’t have been the whole story. If it’s all true, it just reinforces my opinion that Tom is too damn set in his ways to ever be truly successful anywhere!
The context of the reference was also in how tight the relationship is between TH and Sam. I’ve never heard that point emphasized before but they kept making it last night. Just thought it was interesting.

We scored 124 points in the final 2g of 2020. That is our highest scoring 2 game consecutive total since 2005 (128 vs. BU + KU)

We scored 50+ points or more in 40% of our games in 2020. Which is the second-highest rate for a season in school history behind only 2005 (50+ points in 53.8% of games)

Most games of 50+ points in one season in UT football history:
1. 2005 - 7 in 13 games
T2. 2003- 4 in 13 games
T2. 2006 - 4 in 13 games
T2. 2007 - 4 in 13 games
T2. 2008 - 4 in 13 games
T2. 2020 - 4 in 10 games

Some more odds stats for us --

We are 13-4 in bowl games over the last 20 years

Josh Moore is the first player since Jordan Shipley (2010 MNC game) to have 2 TD catches in a bowl game

In his last 4g, Bijan Robinson has 522 rush yards and 4 TDs (+8 catches 129y & 2 more TDs). No other player has come close to this 4g stretch in at least the last 25 years.

We had 303 yards rushing, plus another 334 vs KSU for back-to-back 300+ rush yard games. In the previous 50g, we had just one 300y rush game.

Tom Herman is now 5-0 as a HC in bowl games, including upsets in the big New Years games (UH over FSU, and UT over UGA) -- how do we explain this against the backdrop of a miracle onsides recover to beat a very bad TTU team this year?

There are alot of thing I like and believe are real good about this team, the players, and program...and even coach at times....
The thing is they are wildly inconsistent, play in too many close games, and seem to lay eggs (for at least a half) at crucial, inopportune times during the season. I believe we can play with just about any team in the country most days....and there are alot of good things going on here....The team ...and program....just seems to lack the focus, preparation, intensity, and confidence consistently to not just occassionally play like a top 10 team, but actually be one.

We dont know yet but for what its worth I thought it looked like Sam's injury occurred while being held up behind line and whistle blowing as Buffalo defenders...one in particular...w a little rough extracurricular trying to rip ball out.
Very unfortunate...and frustrating...if true

but still could not beat ou, TCU or ISU (and needed a miracle to beat Tceh).

Maybe we should make all our games bowl games?
TCU could be the "Red McCombs Used Car Bowl"
ISU the "Frozen Tundra Bowl"
Baylor can be the "Kendra Scott Bowl of Trouble"
So on and so forth
Herman would win them all

WTH was up with the East West run game ??? Why were we handing off to our RBs and they were running laterally ???? Especially when Johnson isn't fast and his main ability is his hard-nosed style that is taken away when running laterally..If we are going to run East West next year, OU will kill us........Bijan looked good. Disappointed that Bijan doesn't have that extra gear to outrun DBs...Arizona HS teams must be slow cause his high school videos show him runnning away from those guys. At least he is fast enough to outrun everyone else on defense.

Got all but Hodges. He was pretty good until idoits told him he needed to gain weight and he just got fat & slow.

What the hell is up with the Sam's mom message ??? No need for that. Where was the other mom's getting air time ?? Why should she get to give a speech ??? If it was because Sam was the only one with the balls to stay for The Eyes after every game, then I think it was great.

Apparently that didn’t get him into the end zone until the kstate game. I’ll eat the full dish of crow when he runs like this against top 10 team.
He might if Texas gets, or I should say, plays a QB who can put the fear of God in a defense. ( Had one in Jackson and let him get away )....

Yeah, but in 2005 only the aOSU, USC, and aggy game couldn't have gone to 50+ had we wanted it to. We eased up on a lot of people real early that year, because Mack is a gentleman that way. Think what VY would have done to tired out and dejected defenses late in games had we played him hard all 4 quarters.

I dont think anyone is selling 2005 short. The stats included

With all that said and done...The only team from the Big 12 that this Alamo Bowl Colorado team could have beaten is Kansas, and probably the KSU team Texas played this year. There is no reason to think the future is bright because we beat Colorado. We beat a much better Utah and Georgia team the previous two years and look what we did to follow it up. The only thing this game showed was Tom Herman should have played Thompson some this year, and should have used Bijan more . Thats all.

Its called politics in football. Many programs suffer from it. Coaches play players due to WHO they are, or their classification, etc...instead of playing the BEST players.
We don't know anything for sure from one half, Sam has had some great games too. But look at the pac12 coach of the year who was supposed to be a genius. Noyer has done nothing all season but put up numbers against really bad defenses. He sucked against the only two real defenses he played. Had Lewis been the QB all game last night it definitely would have at least been competitive.

The targeting calls on a sliding QB are usually stupid. They expect the defender to defy the laws of physics...
I certainly agree with that. Just wait til the defender is almost there and slide for a free 15 yards and possible ejection on top of that. It's become BS.

Outside zone
+ the deep ball
= future success

(imo)
If we run the outside zone " like that " against OU they will kill us. I'd rather use the outside zone scheme with a back making his cuts going hard rather than jogging toward the sideline six yards behind the LOS.

On Collins' badass interception, note how the screen wouldn't have worked for CU anyway, since if Collins had not touched it, Overshown would have clobbered the RB right as the ball got to him.
