Game thread Texas versus Colorado

Nice way to end what was a season of turmoil, lost opportunity and piss poor handling of pretty much every facet by the head coach. Now we see what develops over the coming weeks/months.

Until then, good night and Happy New Year folks! Be sure to tip your waitresses.

Hook’Em!!
:bevo:

Good solid win- best game since the Alamo bowl last year. May not translate to a big season next year but enjoyable just for itself.

This plus the OSU win made for a good night for the conference.

Always nice to win. We showed some talent for hitting tonight and some passion and energy. BUT if Colorado had a Big XII QB this game would have been a lot closer. Their guys were, especially #4, were awful.

Very nice win - the Longhorns were obviously motivated to play in this game. Sorry to see Sam on the sideline, but Thompson filled the QB position quite well. And this game of football looks to be too easy for Bijan.

Yeah, turned out to be a blowout but Colorado’s QB play was terrible. A few college level quality passes here and there and it’s a tie game halfway through.

The guys who opted out to get ready to play in “the League”, weren’t missed the last two games. In fact, at least in my opinion, the team played a lot better, and with more intensity than with them.

One of the things that pisses me off about Herman is when he believes something he gets set in it. For example letting Sam play every minute of every game. He's hard headed with a touch of immaturity. But that's been well documented and I won't go on.
I wonder if he thought to himself man I should have let Thompson play earlier this year. There are occasions when you need to think outside the box. I am so ready for the next coach. And if the next coach is not the right coach at least we did something to change our current circumstance to possibly make our situation better.

Maybe sitting the bench motivated Casey. It is just one game. Glad we won. For my two cents if Sam wants to/is able to play next year, he’s still the starter.

We scored 124 points in the final 2g of 2020. That is our highest scoring 2 game consecutive total since 2005 (128 vs. BU + KU)

We scored 50+ points or more in 40% of our games in 2020. Which is the second-highest rate for a season in school history behind only 2005 (50+ points in 53.8% of games)

Most games of 50+ points in one season in UT football history:
1. 2005 - 7 in 13 games
T2. 2003- 4 in 13 games
T2. 2006 - 4 in 13 games
T2. 2007 - 4 in 13 games
T2. 2008 - 4 in 13 games
T2. 2020 - 4 in 10 games

Some more odds stats for us --

We are 13-4 in bowl games over the last 20 years

Josh Moore is the first player since Jordan Shipley (2010 MNC game) to have 2 TD catches in a bowl game

In his last 4g, Bijan Robinson has 522 rush yards and 4 TDs (+8 catches 129y & 2 more TDs). No other player has come close to this 4g stretch in at least the last 25 years.

We had 303 yards rushing, plus another 334 vs KSU for back-to-back 300+ rush yard games. In the previous 50g, we had just one 300y rush game.

Tom Herman is now 5-0 as a HC in bowl games, including upsets in the big New Years games (UH over FSU, and UT over UGA) -- how do we explain this against the backdrop of a miracle onsides recover to beat a very bad TTU team this year?

First, I'm super excited about Bijan and Casey. We look elite in the near term at those two positions.

He's hard headed with a touch of immaturity.

Don't forget arrogant. Some quotes after the game:

“Nobody was surprised,” coach Tom Herman told the media afterward. “Maybe all of you were because he hasn’t played a whole lot, but we’ve seen him in practice for three years.”

Bystander: So why didn't you ever play him? Why point fingers at the media like they're stupid?

"Herman was unapologetic about his use of running backs, saying “that’s kind of what we do” to keep them fresh."

Bystander: Stubborn. Arrogant. Not deserving of that kind of smirking personality because he's done NOTHING.

Big win for you Tom? Colorado? They had less than 50 scholarship players on the roster. So why do you act like you have it all figured out?

That's the massive level of immaturity right there.

Maybe TH should update his Waterboy playbook.

I am happy that Sam has been here and he is the poster child for a true Longhorn. Being the only one strong enough to stand for the eyes at OU was a true statement to character that is sorely lacking on this team and coaching staff. I hope Sam moves on. He doesnt seem to read the defenses and misses far to many WR on the run. If you look at the better offenses, the QB's hit the receivers in stride and good things happen. If you also watch the better offenses they dont run 3 receivers to the same area and actually spread the field. Seems simple but just like Bijon going MIA for over 20 minutes in the first half, I mean come on man.

In the last 25 years, we've had 6 players rush for 170+ yards and a TD in consecutive games (one of them did this twice)

Can you name all six?

-Ricky Williams (1997 and 1998)
-Hodges Mitchell (2000)
-Cedric Benson (2004)
-Jamaal Charles (2007)
-D'Onta Foreman (2016)
-Bijan Robinson (2020)

During the first half, the announcers mentioned something about Sam basically calling out the coaches during a previous game saying something along the lines of “are we going to keep the pedal down or let up like we always do?” They mentioned that Tom laughed it off and told Sam “how about you let us coach?”

Man, I’d have loved to be an assistant or trainer or something that was witness to this. I don’t think Sam was joking, and Herman laughing it off couldn’t have been the whole story. If it’s all true, it just reinforces my opinion that Tom is too damn set in his ways to ever be truly successful anywhere!

Ricky Williams had 2 consecutive 300 yard games in 1998. That’s over 600 yards in 2 games not 4. I guess the point is catching passes as well? Not positive but it appears Ricky scored 12 rushing touchdowns in those consecutive 300 plus yard games. Even if he didn’t catch a pass, that obliterates this 4 game record.
Ricky had four consecutive 200 yard rushing games in 1997. Ricky, Hodges Mitchell, and Donta Foreman had 2 consecutive 200 yard games in their careers. Again, it must be the receptions and not the yards and touchdowns that are so very special about Bijan.
