If targeting is a harsh penalty, then you need to stop penalties on slides unless it’s a personal foul.

Re the sliding issue: The problem now is that refs call a penalty most anytime a QB goes into a slide and gets hit with any amount of force. That should not be. Rather, there must be some judgment applied about whether (i) the defender started his tackle before or at the same time that the QB is sliding or (ii) the defender nevertheless lowered his head (ie, speared) or hit the head & neck area of the QB. Right now, the tie and several steps before that goes to the QB. That in my view is the issue.

Nordgren threw 11 passes in all of 2005 and we played more games then.

But to be fair Most games we had 40+ early in the 3rd and we just ran out the clock the 2nd half. Mack was never one to run up a score. I can only remember Vince playing meaningful snaps in the 4th quarter against tOSU, A&M, and OSU before the Rose Bowl. And I'm not sure on the OSU game, I'd have to look it up.
