game thread Horns vs Baylor 2023

Horns averaging 35 points per game while giving up 12.5 per game.
I'll take that for the rest of the season.
This better than I expected.
All of the teams we played are time possession type of teams: Rice, WYO, Baylor and even Bama. It has limited our scoring.

Just go ahead and turn it into a pay site and get it over with then.
Otherwise stop harassing people.
I disagree. It’s based on the honor system. If someone uses the site a lot, it shouldn’t be unexpected to be asked to make a contribution. Also, by making it an honor system, it allows people to give as much as they are able, versus relying on a fixed fee that may not work for everyone due to folks’s financial position.

I totally agree with you.
Still doesn't mean anybody should be harassed if they aren't currently a donor.

Notice Dion is not the one harassing you or anyone and he never will.
It is those of us who understand and appreciate what it takes to keep this going
Why wouldn't anyone who enjoys this place for years want to contribute?

Thoughts from New Floyd Casey:
  • It was so damn hot leading up to the game. Tolerable once the sun went down.
  • I like the vibe. You could pretty much only pull that kind of stuff off with a smaller school, but it works for them. I haven't been since the 2015 game when we upset their QB-less team. Seemed more exciting this time around with a decent team.
  • Every BU fan around us was apologetic for how sucky they are. One guy was like "it'd be a different story with Shapen!" and everyone else nearby said "no it wouldn't!"
  • The special teams miscues got laughably bad. I agree with Worthy that Banks is going to tear into them, much like his monkey tore into some girl.
  • Our DL was toying with them for about one-third of the snaps. Just kind of giving them room so that they could swallow up any run that came near.
  • The worst defensive plays were from the safeties. Gotta clean that up.
  • It's still kind of early in the season, but we seem to abandon good plays once we get a 1st down with them.
  • I'm worried that Sanders is going to become the only "safety valve" in QE's bail out plays, which better teams will read. We have guys like Whitt and Cook and Baxter ready to go... use them.
Thoughts after watching all of the other top games:
  • I think we're better than both tOSU and ND.
  • UGA/Mich are still too tough to tell what's going on. They don't play anyone and then get kinda "meh" results.
  • FSU is lucky. We're better than them overall.
  • Oregon looked like the real deal on their first couple series. I think it's probably 50/50 if we played them, despite their lackluster game against Tech.
  • Washington looks very, very good.
  • OU finally played a defense and looked efficient, but their offense was stalled after decent drives.

Nobody wants to harass anyone. But facts are facts. We love this site. Ad revenue is down and Dion ain’t getting rich here.

I’m sorry I got so aggressive with Kbrown and I’ve largely left you alone as a long term poster. But I love this site. We need posters who use the site regularly to sponsor. It might have to go to an all pay site given the ad revenue being down. Nobody wants that because we all enjoy the occasional poster. If you don’t sponsor, expect that sponsors think you are a troll if you come in after a great win and crap on it.

Nothing in life is free. Be a sponsor or expect even more changes to the site. And a disclaimer - Dion had nothing to do with this message and I get no financial benefit from HF.

It is not just what you can afford on a recurring basis.
A lot of us have 1 foot in the grave and do not feel like signing on to a monthly fee that will not stop on death.

Horns11, I actually like going to McLane Stadium (well when we win of course) because the seats are so much closer to the field at heights comparable to DKR. I thought the game was great.
On the punt flubs I was watching the Xavier miss through binocs and I swear that was a weird ball. It was like a knuckleball in that it floated flat with the ends kind of slowly moving side to side with no apparent spin. Couldn’t see it on tv I’m sure although I haven’t watched it on the dvr yet. I think I only noticed because although I rarely use the binocs on punts I did for this one. Not saying he shouldn’t have caught it just that it was weird. Can’t say I watched the ball on Whit’s muff.
Did anyone notice Jones get sick? When we were down on their end, 4th qtr, he threw up right on the line of scrimmage while lining up. Ref made him get off field even though he didn’t want to. Hope he’s ok.

I have the same concern about recurring fees. As such, I send an annual check to Dion.

^No one will ever consider Quinn as the second coming of Vince insofar as running the football, but give the guy due credit - he saw what was available to him and took it.

I understand the angst about the ST play against Bailor, but let's take a look at a few positives on ST:
1. Not one kickoff resulted in a significant return. Of those few KO's that didn't go through the endzone, none were returned to the 25. Remember when we couldn't stop a kick return inside the 35 or 40 if our life depended on it?
2. X had 48 yds in punt returns with a long of 40 yds. He's had at least one significant punt return in each game if I'm not mistaken, but I'm too lazy to look it up.
3. Sanborn had four punts for an average of 44.8 yds. One inside the 20 with only one touchback. Zero (0!) return yds for the teddies.

I dunno, when that play developed I thought it was the VY TD vs USC for a second. I had to shake my head to clear it.

To paraphrase from Band of Brothers, re: Lt. (Ewers)Spiers.

When he took off, at first the defenders in ugly green did nothing, I don’t think they could quite believe what they were seeing. Then they started coming for him but it was too late. Him taking off wasn’t the really astounding thing, the most astounding thing was he ran all the way to the end zone untouched.

I could watch that series every day.
