Not laying this one on him. He has never been the greatest passer and yet we try and force feed plays that play to that weakness. If he has a fault , it's that he tries to use his bulk to keep a play alive. A deep drop back shouldn't have been called in that last play. Why nit use Smith ir Whittington on dump off passes and let them use their speed and athleticism. This one is all on the coaches.Sam let us down today. Misses the long one to Smith on the previous possession. Misses the easy out pass to Smith, and takes the sack. Make any of those plays and we at least are going to OT. Tired of the brain dead play of these guys. Time for Tom to go and I'd do it now and not wait.
We’ve said that many times the last 4 years...With just a hair of competency, we win. Sad sad sad.
Getting the sack is last thing Sam could do. Throw it away for gosh sakes.Hate to say it but Sam blew it at the end. Dicker could have used a few more yards.
He violated every fundamental coaching principle from start to finish.
My source lives in Dallas and goes to all of the Southlake games. Take it to be bank. From someone in Dallas at a HS Southlake Game:
“Sitting at a Dragon football game behind Quinn Ewers folks. He was telling me that Urban has a standing offer at UT. He also said his son decommitted for several reason. Uncertainty in the longevity of the coaching staff was part of it, but he said there was “stuff” going on at UT that he couldn’t discuss that weighed heavily on bond decision. We had the UT game on our phones. Might be Herman’s Swan song.”
Yes, that's very true. When he does complete a long pass it's because the WR outwrestles the DB for the ball. If he could throw an accurate long pass those would be TD's with the WR walking into the end zone. That was obvious last year and people thought he would improve. Like said above, you can't teach accuracy just like you can't teach speed. Also, hate to say it but Sam has not played well. He is above 60% completion once in the last 6 games and its a 3-3 record over those games. He misses wide open receivers constantly. He is simply not accurate. You cannot coach accuracy. But you can call plays that help mask your weakness. Texas clearly got outcoached today. ISU found the matchup nightmare with their TE and just pounded it over and over. Stupid fake punt, to the short side no less. Stupid decision to go for it instead of kick the FG. Then a stupid play call with a delay QB power. Gotta get 12 inches, so let's run a delay to let give the D time to get in the backfield. Dumbest MENSA member ever.
I thought Sam was excellent today, and his long pasees may have been the best of the season. Purdy missed many long ones. Sam was pretty darn accurate. Some of his throws to Eagles were spot on. He also ran very well. The play calling over the last 4:00 was terrible.Yes, that's very true. When he does complete a long pass it's because the WR outwrestles the DB for the ball. Sam is a great athlete and. a very good quarterback, of a certain type, with outstanding character and leadership skills. Unfortunately his coach, who loves his skillset, schemes to a skillset where Sam does not perform at a high level. Not Sam’s fault. Not laying this one on him. Completely agree. The number of times that this coaching staff would call a deep ball after a one or two yard gain on first down has been maddening. Every time it created a third and long or a holding call. Just makes no sense.Sam is a great athlete and. a very good quarterback, of a certain type, with outstanding character and leadership skills. One of my favorite plays in a tight game for short yardage is to roll the quarterback right on a pass run option. Sam is the perfect quarterback for that play. Iowa State has a brutal front three. Game is on the line with no time and Sam is kept in the pocket with no open receivers. Disaster.
