Sark in a statement:
“This is a unique and compelling opportunity to lead this storied program to the next level, competing once again amongst the best in college football.”

Sterns:

“That’s why you gotta do what’s right for your family and you or you’ll get caught up with the politics in CFB. The business isn’t pretty at all.”

What the H does that mean?
It means I don’t understand how the business works - which was my assumption all along and Herman’s fault for not explaining it to the players.

I was at the golf course when this story broke so I have only been able to read about this here. Thanks for the updates and opinions.

Football Scoop discussing potential staff - a couple of very interesting names in there

" ... The Horns’ leaders received voluminous, detailed plans from candidates that addressed their vision for the future of Texas football, detailed recruiting plans, program tenets – and, perhaps chief amongst all items, a projected staff.

It’s in that area in which Steve Sarkisian separated himself, along with Sarkisian’s previous experience as a head coach and his career renaissance at Alabama as offensive coordinator of the Tide’s record-setting attack.

In terms of coordinators, Kyle Flood is a Sarkisian colleague now at Alabama, someone who people close to Sarkisian tell FootballScoop that Sark “likes him a lot.” Flood could be the Horns’ offensive coordinator and a key linchpin on Sarkisian’s staff. Sarkisian also remained heavily involved in play-calling even as a head coach at both Washington and USC, so that’s a key dynamic and one that we’re told Flood well understands with Sarkisian.

Blake Gideon, a former Horns player who started 52 career games in Austin, has carved a niche as a top special teams coach and rising young assistant. Gideon served as special teams coordinator for Lane Kiffin’s inaugural Ole Miss squad, which capped its season Saturday with a win against Indiana in the Outback Bowl.

At the defensive coordinator spot, Sarkisian can help Texas with a number of potential high-profile targets in a year in which defensive coordinators are very much in demand. Sources told FootballScoop that former Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, fired in November as South Carolina’s head coach, was expected to be in the mix for Sarkisian’s top defensive spot.

Kevin Steele, most recently Auburn’s interim head coach and defensive coordinator, also has emerged with multiple options that could include Texas.

Marcus Freeman, the wunderkind Cincinnati defensive coordinator, has elicited interest from Auburn’s new coach Bryan Harsin, as well as LSU, Michigan and Notre Dame. “Freeman would be an option,” said a source.

Zach Arnett, defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, has surged in national profile and did notable work in his first season with the Bulldogs; he’s considered a name to watch at Texas and with other openings.

Additionally, multiple sources told FootballScoop that a reunion of Sarkisian with defensive line specialist and recruiting guru Tosh Lupoi, who’s spent the past few seasons in the NFL, also has been discussed.

One final coach to keep an eye on is former UT assistant Chris Rumph. Rumph coached outside linebackers for the Houston Texans this season, but a return to Austin could be in his future.

Sources: Part of Sark's Texas allure is potential staff

Everything's bigger ... including the risks? Texas opts for $24 million gamble on future

Here's the first pass media opinion on it. Highlights:

  • Standard tripe about everything is bigger in Texas. Is that a requirment to use that tired line in a story, or merely a suggestion.
  • Talks about both the "buyout", which I don't think was an option, just a re-assignment, and the new coach's pay, while one was a sunk cost anyway. Double counts it for more "oh my!!".
  • Claims that "These are the same types of board members and donors who let Texas facilities atrophy to be among the worst in the Big 12 and decided Steve Patterson and Mike Perrin would be capable athletic directors." First, I find it hard to believe that Texas facilities were worse than Kansas, ISU, Tech. Secondly, Perrin was always an interim hire until Texas hired someone full time, and was brought in to fix the damage from Stevie P. And did a good job at that. Lazy reporting (as if there is any other kind) not to know this.
  • Finger wags at Texas for having to pay another coach, while not discussing donor issues and how keeping Herman would have cost more in lost donations than hiring somone new.
  • Talks about how hiring Sak won't bring Texas up to the Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State level - when that's not the issue, it's beating OU and winning a crummy CC game more than once per decade. If Texas had OU's record, which is not at the Big 3 level, the coach would be going no where.

Now watch, if Sak is good at Texas, all the media stories will be "Faith in coach proves haters wrong!", with them all climbing on the bandwagon to finger wag at "those who didn't want to give this man a second chance".

A media bus going over a cliff, with two empty seats, is a horrible tragedy - of two empty seats.

I don't like him. WHo's next?

:coolnana:
HIC,
His mentor Saban is not Woke. Let's give Sark a chance. CDC has a lot on the line here and this will be on him if it doesn't work out. It looks like Sark has been getting his act together the last few years. I am a big believer in second chances.
