For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

I will give Tom Herman credit for keeping the players motivated and focused throughout the week despite all of the rumblings, rumors and dissatisfaction surrounding the season in general. They could have easily hung their heads and not played hard, especially on the road. As Joel Klatt said yesterday, Texas is so close but for whatever reason we are falling short, whether it be penalties, turnovers at pivotal moments, etc.

My preference is to keep TH through 2021 if and only if Meyer is not interested. Otherwise, we would be starting over with a non-splash hire and new assistants that could easily set us back yet again.

It's preaching to the choir rhetoric which never falls on deaf ears. Also could turn out to be true. But Herman isn't getting fired before we play Kansas or at least he shouldn't.

The defense didn't play hard. Giving up 450 yrds and 31 pts when KSU stopped themselves 3x with turnovers is pathetic. I was looking for To Orlan o walking on the sidelines.

That's one of the key reasons why TH sucks so bad, there never is a complete game performance. Someone please tell me 1 game in his career at Texas all 3 phases played great, and SJSU and UTEP don't count.

Georgia? Or do you agree with those who say they were unmotivated?

I didn't watch the game.....was at a high school playoff game. I haven't read the game thread or seen highlights either.

While driving home I asked Mrs LC (I love her so) to look up the final score. When she told me, I was kinda upset. I wasn't hoping for a loss but I just shook my head and thought....

Really Tom, now you finally decide to go off? Or you just coaching for your job?

Anyway, I'm glad Sam and the boys took out the Cats. :hookem:
KState was awful, though, LC...

I remember giving my Bama buddy hell in '89 when they fired Bill Curry after going 10-1 in regular season and then a close loss to a damn good Miami team in the sugar bowl. "How the hell do you can your coach when he only loses one game all season?" I asked. "It's because that one loss is to the one team we can't lose to."(Auburn) he told me. They fired Curry and 3 years later won the Natty with Gene Stallings.

Herman is 1-4 vs the sooners. It's time.

I've read that we've met with Meyer. Does anyone know the results of this meeting? He's interested? Not interested? We've offered? Backed away? anything at all?
The UT people I talk to who don't do message boards have zero idea we might be after Meyer. And when I've told them, they've scoffed. I guess my question is: Is this a message board thing or is it real?
Those on another board who track planes, helicopters, UFOs, and Big Foot seem to think something may go down today or Monday......or after KU. So basically, nobody knows.

Herman did say he does not listen to noise during the week or do social media.
He only gets his news from Yahoo
Which may explain his reaction to the woke players last summer.

He's too busy analyzing urine color and performing other Mensa-like tasks to bother with social media.

Yahoo is my homepage because I have a Yahoo email account and like their finance section. Let me tell you without equivocation; it is a Liberal front. They have bloggers who spout all the left-wing talking points on a daily basis. If he is reading this stuff and taking it to heart, there is no question he is left-wing.

The guy seems, like most people who tout how brilliant they are, to have no common sense. That's the bottom line with this guy.

When he actually admitted to people that he makes game decisions based on analysis and what is shown in a binder to supposedly cover any situation, it showed that he has no awareness of common sense and what he should or should not say.

I don't see any changes until after the Bowl game. KU should be an easy win next Saturday. Who knows or cares what bowl we play in vs. Mizzu or Aub. Early signing is soon don't hear much "new" noise about recruits de-committing over the coach situation. Don't rush the situation - make the best choice for 2021 and beyond. My issue w/TH is the lack of leadership - we need a CEO not a bench coach.

I have never really understood this mindset that you have to be motivated to actually do what you supposedly love and are getting essentially paid (free everything on scholly). I dont care if its checkers, I am out to win. No one has to convince me to that I need to do my best. These kids have 4 years of eligibility to compete and that luxury doesnt need to be convinced to do your job. TH getting 6m shouldnt need motivating to not insult your fans/employers/alumni yet here we are.

This is the year that I don't like the early signing period. Just wishing that all the recruits would wait till February. This would give the new coach (hopefully UM) time to recruit and reclaim some of our former verbals. Let's get this ball rolling.

Agreed. But, having played a couple of sports- at a pretty high level- emotion/ motivation can play a big factor in performance/outcomes. I can’t imagine it’s any different for these guys.

Neither defense seemed very motivated

The O/u gong in was 51 points
The actual game total was 100

My sense is that if he had given a firm "no" or a "I'm flattered but am happy with my current job and not interested," then we would know that by now

A couple of possible factors --
If Herman is fired and the job becomes open, there are some state rules that briefly come into play and must be followed
In addition, there are at least a couple of tOSU assistants he would want (on Saturday, he even mentioned their S&C assistant as his main #2, with him since Florida) and he probably doesn't want to foul up their season

I don't equate giving up 31 points and 450 yards as not playing hard. A defense can play hard and still surrender excessive points and yards. The defense has to play smart also. Like when their receiver got wide open on the The twelve yard line and literally jogged to the end zone. Someone missed an assignment. Defenders have to defend the space assigned to them and make the play. Of course the offense is designed to create space (perhaps by misdirection) and mismatches (speed for example) and if the offense can do this quickly then the result is a good play. So it's not a lack of hustle but good execution by the offense. The defense has to play smart, alert and the coaches have to have them in the right location to make the play. And then there are the individual playmakers like Vaughn who can make something out of nothing. A defender can try hard to stop them and still not succeed. I just wince when someone says "they didn't play hard". Gotta give credit to the other team for offensive execution and individual play making. Sorry, I know I ranted.

In 2011, the timeline was that Ohio State's final regular season game Nov 26.
Urban Meyer met with team Nov 27
He was officially introduced Nov 28

Our final reg season game is with Kansas, now set for Dec 12 at 2:30pm

Yep, as stupidly as Texas seems to generally handle the type of thing, the stupidity doesn't not include firing the coach and goring another before the final game. Another stupid Covid casualty: Texas fans have to stomach having Herman at the helm until December 13th.

Bill Belichick. You heard it here first.

Also back in 2011, Meyer did ask ESPN to be relieved of his duties
