Favorite pizza?

mama's is still in the fort worth area. there used to be one down the street from my high school that i would skip 6th period for often. Very good.

There is no great pizza in austin really. Nikkis is good and if you go there arounf closing time they might just give you free pizza.

Gino's east in Chi-town is best on a natioinal scale, outside of NYC.

Ray's pizza in Atlanta is pretty good stuff.

Gardner, i love MM. i have a cousin that's originally from Pennslyvania so we used to go there every sunday and watch Steeler's games since that is the big Steeler's hangout.

I have gone there every sunday for the past 7 weeks, newspaper in hand, to watch the early games and get fat. No wonder I have gained 10 lbs since I moved to the ATL.

Mama's was my favorite here until it closed.
It was an El Chico before it was Mama's.

The Conan's (now Kerby Lane) on Guadalupe was a Holiday House hamburger place before that. Those Holiday House burgers were great.

which mellow mushroom are you talking about? i've been to the one in woodstock and i know there is one by me in dunwoody area.

Gardner,

I've been to that Mellow Mushroom and Jock's and Jill's many times. MM is probably my favorite pizza in ATL, although Ray's and Fellini's are pretty good. I'll sometimes go to play trivia at that Jock's and Jill's on Friday nights. They always have a hot hostess and some pretty hot waitresses working.......... plus you have a better than 50% chance of seeing Craig Sager (TNT basketball) either hitting on some bimbo or making out with one. Additionally, I like the life size poster of Jon Koncack (sp/).

wait, i thought it was a randy whitman lifesize cut out at J&J...

also, is ray's the place near piedmont hospital and (RIP) the beer mug? if not, whatever pizza place that is, is damn good too.

Scally,

Ray's is in Buckhead, right next to the Biergarden. I don't think I've been sober eating there, so I can't be 100% sure that it's that great.

You may be right about Whitman. I'll check it out next time. The Hawks were a truly enjoyable team to watch during the mid-late '80's.

That Pizza shop on 6th with the Red Sign(?) I think, usually too wasted to read, but damn that is some good ****. Only at or after 2:00 am.

Getting pizza from here is reason enough to go hang out on 6th which is kinda rare, but for the pizza, I will go.

My favorite was Pizza Classics in the late 80's yummy. I was very disturbed to see Conan's on the drag closed about a year ago. Someone wrote they had opened further down the drag.

Sure hope so, they were great.

I guess the jingle about being the "Best Pizza in town." isn't true. No one has listed Mr Gatti's.
That was a joke. Ha Ha

Back in the 80's there were a couple of God Fathers Pizza stores that opened up. One on Ben White Blvd and the other I think was down on William Cannon and Manchaca. Back then they were not all that bad. Maybe I was just young back then.

You're right about Mama's being the best pizza. They used to spread garlic butter across the crust. Still the best pizza i ever tasted.

There's a daycare center there now.

There was also a place called Greek's that used to deliver to the dorms in the early 80's. My roommate and I had many of those at midnight.

there should be two categories here. perhaps more.

i don't really dig chicago style. il ike my crust thin, chewy, greasy and garlicy. new york style. few and far between.

Milto's. No question.

Thanks a lot, guys. Now I'm craving Milto's Sicilian with pepperoni and extra cheese and a salad with their house dressing. Damn, that dressing is good. Guess they're not open at 3am. Dammit.

The Mellow Mushroom in ATL is BY FAR the best pizza I have ever had.

I took a business trip to ATL a while back, and found it by accident. It was in a shopping center not far from a MARTA (is that what their rail system is called? I can't remember) stop. I was hungry, so I just went in there by chance. I ate there every night after that until I left (about a week). The pesto pizza was GREAT. They also had a great "white" pizza as well, and the atmoshpere was, to me, very "Austin". A lot of psychodelic stuff, and sports on all the TV's. Pretty good ****. If you ever find yourself in ATL, check it out. You won't be disappointed...

My house. Chicken pesto pizza with four cheeses including feta, plus mushrooms and red bell pepper. Handmade crust with crushed red peppers too. Damn I'm hungry.

Austin - Conan's, I cant believe the drag location is closed.

Anywhere else- John's Pizzaria in NYC. Hands down best in the world.

Its the water that makes the pizza dough good. Seriously!

I had some John's pizza in NYC on my honeymoon. You're right. It was pretty damn good. And I don't normally like NY style pizza. I prefer Chicago (deep dish) style...

Mellow Mushroom, IMO, is still better...

veggie -

I used to live in ATL, and, while Mellow Mushroom is good and quite popular, IMO their pizza does not hold a candle to the best pizza in Austin.

Drooley - I used to hang out a Jock's Brookhaven all the freakin' time - I probably played Friday night trivia while you were there on several occasions.

Pizza Classics was ******* dog food!!

Also, they used to do that thing where they would let you post-date a check to get pizza if you didn't have any money, and they would hold the check for ten days. Well, they cashed my check the next day and it bounced, and I was turbo-pissed! Great promo idea--****** execution.
