Ewers is not participating in Senior ceremonies…

I think that is bad news if QE decides to come back. I have never been a QE fan. He may be a great kid but in my opinion,he is not a great QB. I just wonder how much money he receives in commercials and NIL money. He seems to enjoy his time at UT and maybe just wants to stay. Maybe he knows he is too fragile for the NFL.

Yep. Our running game has performed a bit below my expectations. Again, this has been due to multiple reasons. Blocking assignments are occasionally blown, and occasionally our O line simply gets beat and/or misses blitzing backers who then blow up the play. Also, the # 1 # 2. RB’s are out.
Agree. However, I was surprised to learn that we are in the top 50 nationally, rushing. I believe this will improve next year with a mobile QB. Having Baxter available + a full year with Becton for Gipson + the incoming RB recruits should positively affect the ground game.

If we can go deep into the playoffs this year, perhaps Gipson will become more of a factor.

Finally, I don’t believe that both our #1 & # 2 RBs are out. Who is RB # 2? Isn’t that Blue?

Thats a blast from the past.
It will always be a mystery to me why HPslugga went a hair short of psycho on me. I joked about Highland Park and his coaching career and how his weekly goal chart was based upon privileged high school kids. Nothing mean spirited.
I thought he said he coached there and apparently I was mistaken and that kid kept asking why i would say that he did. What did I know about foot… etc . After repeating my same response as ‘my bad.. i guess I misunderstood’, just kidding’ he berated me once more and then ..poof - like a beautiful little lightening bug he was gone forever.
So if you’re back under an assumed name again, bud I don't know what I
wrote that got you so mad.
What I never understood was why some posters fell all over themselves thanking him for those stupid Landry scores. No ****, we can all watch and see how Texas played.

What is the rank in top 50 and what is the criteria? Yards per game?

We have 200-ish rushing yards from WRs, and 99 from Colin Page in garbage time. We're #65 in the nation in rushing ypg right now, and we'd fall to #98 without those yards from Bond, Wingo, and Page.

Christian Clark was running #2 I think

And see11’s post above. Our rushing game needs holes to run through and a back who can push the pile.
I’m not ragging on our RB’s.
My point is that a stronger running game helps the offense as a whole.
I thought our offensive line would be more effective in run and pass protection than it’s been. Hopefully they will continue to improve; hopefully Blue will hang on to the ball in the coming games.

I think I may be mistaken. It looks like 161 YPG, which is around 66th as Horns11 mentioned.

To beat a dead horse, a QB that can run would be a shot in the arm for the ground game.

Prior to injuries the order was CJ Baxter, Jaden Blue, then Trey Wisner.
It is important to note that CJ Baxter was not a juggernaut last year. That doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t have been very good this year, or that he won’t be next year, but we just don’t know.

“Ewers, who has a season of eligibility remaining, is not expected to go through Senior Day festivities Saturday vs. Kentucky, which has become a more common practice in this era of college football that is more welcome to celebrate three-and-done players than it was 20 years ago. ”

I think QE, Arch, and families are all pragmatic with great class. Sark is building a program for the long haul, and is demonstrating to future talented Texas quarterback recruits that the Texas staff will give them every chance to succeed.

A quarterback needs fan energy and support to thrive in one of the most difficult and hazardous positions in sports. There is no way in my mind that QE is going to create a quarterback controversy next year (which Texas fans would hate and the press would feast on) by remaining at Texas.

Sark knows what’s going on with QE post oblique injury better than any of us. I think Sark’s game plan today vs Kentucky will play to QE’s strengths, to make both QE and the team successful, in QE’s last home game before Texas fans…

I am happy to be in Austin today from my out of state home now 1,000 miles away, visiting with my 90 year old Longhorn engineering alum father, and attending the one live Horns game I’ll see this year with my old friend and Texas roommate I’ve kept up with for 40+ years now. I’ll be loudly rooting for QE, Sark, and our team for the great contributions they are adding to Texas football history. Hook ‘Em!!

Umm….every deficiency comes back to, “it’s QE’s fault”. Duke, I have always enjoyed your input but I am at my wits end on this one. I posted much earlier that QE needs a running game to be successful with his passing game. Now we want to blame the piss poor run game on him.

I grew up in the era of pocket passers being told not to run. The run game was a two back or a three back set. Teams geared to stop the run and the quarterback surprised with the pass. Coaches never built a run game around the quarterback. We had a coach do that before Sark. It is a good way to get rid of the QB and play the popular one. The one on the bench. If there are no more on the bench you have to run and the “D” knows it.

I have spoken my last on this issue. I am out of here and I will not read anymore on this subject. But I will respect the many very good posters and read on other issues. And that includes you Duke!

If you played a 3 TE set, there wouldn’t be any pressure on the QB. Just sayin’.

Chin, I’m just being observational…saying that the threat of a run by the quarterback gives a defense more things to think about. They have to account for the RBs, and the QB.

I remember when Taaffe was the scapegoat. How can I forgive?

I was at UT during the Vince Young and Colt McCoy eras, so I was definitely spoiled. Growing up in Austin I've run into Major Applewhite a million times and known so many longhorn fans with dogs named Major. Sam Ehlinger was one of my favorite Texas players, let alone quarterbacks, of all time.

All of these guys just had something extra about them, whether that was on the field, or as a leader on the team. When Colt McCoy was amped up and emotional, I felt like that dude would have died on the field for his team. Sam was similar.

I have felt no connection to Quinn while he's been at Texas. It is not a QB's job to be charismatic, nor does being charismatic make you a good QB, but I think maybe that's why some fans are reacting the way they are. To me, Quinn has always seemed like he's out there doing a job (one he's usually pretty good at), not out there doing something he absolutely loves.

With all that being said, I see how our team has changed under Sark, and I'm grateful for that. I'm proud of our team for fighting and building back our culture, and I know that Quinn was a big part of that. I wish him the best, no matter what his decision is.

Just the two-cents of someone who rarely posts.

I have wondered this myself. Perhaps he’s the definition of an enigma? Or perhaps he is unusually shy.

Speaking of Taaffe, what’s up with him getting run over these past couple games? Previously, he’s been a sure tackler.

Maybe Quinn realizes being emotional isn't a good quality when things get tough. To me, he's Cool Hand Luke. Of course, if Arch had been QB today, we would have won 56-10, and Archie would have numbers like this: 36-38-420 yds, 5 TDs, 0 INTs, and the Heisman would have been delivered at halftime. (sarcasm, beaches)!!!!!!!

I don’t think a running QB is a shot in the arm for the running game unless the team runs the wishbone.
The best running QUARTERBACK I remember is Vince Young. That team wasn’t known for a great running game It was known for Vince and the defense and the O line and the passing game.
The teams I remember that were known for their running game were Ricky’s senior year team and Earl’s senior year team.
Those two teams also had really good Offensive Linemen.
The quarterbacks on Ricky’s and Earl’s teams are a footnote. Neither were above average runners. And neither were great passers. They were tough, smart and took care of the ball
Ewers will be playing on Sunday. He is a skilled passer. We have been lucky to have him,

Cedric Benson, RIP, did you forget?

I didnt see the same thing today. I had to leave late in the game & was listening on the radio but he was obviously hurt and that impacted the game. I presume Sark wanted him to play the full game for his last game as he did walk with the seniors today. Now for Blue and his fumbleitis, OMG. Hold onto the frikin ball and make yourself some money on sundays. I am not happy we dont blow out these teams like we should but what a nightmare of a game with the fumbles and what not. We got the w and thats the best thing. Now on to the people of animal husbandry.
