Yeah, @moondog_LFZ . I like it. Kinda' like those old "f the haters" shirts. Who knew what the f really stood for?

ETH could mean any number of things. Not our fault if somebody's imagination immediately runs to the worst explanation.
 
Back in the day in NASCAR, when Jeff Gordon was regularly beating Dale Earnhardt, he was booed at every track he went to. When asked about the booing, Gordon replied, "When they stop booing, *then* I have a problem." That is Embracing the Hate to me. As was said earlier, losers hate winners.

The Brand. aNm wants it, tceh wants it, bailor wants it...everywhere you see Horns down, those people want it (or something that approximates it). We haven't fielded a consistent winner in over a decade, just as you say, but everywhere we go people are throwing Horns down. They CAN'T have the Brand. It's ours. Suck on it aggy & raider. And ETH!!!!

Dana Holgorsen says "Good riddance" to Texas. Of COURSE he does. He has no desire to have his stool pushed in on the regular by Texas.

Holgerson has been a dismal experiment for Third Ward. The alums are long since fed up with him. Problem is that Tillman thinks the guy is great and he is calling the shots.

I don't look for them to be a factor other than possibly everyone's Homecoming game for years to come.

Question is, who will take that job? Art Briles? John Blake? Pelini? Scott Frost? Some successful Texas HS coach?

There are always dudes that look like Holgorsen in Houston ice houses. Not a great coach, but in Houston I can see him fitting in on numerous parts of town.

How is that guy still in business?? The last time I went to a Salt Grass it made Cracker Barrel look like an upscale joint and Babins makes Long John Silver look like Eddie V's Prime Seafood.

If everyone hates Texas so much, which is odd since OU wins the conference every year, why would they all be unhappy about Texas leaving?

This just all sounds like a marketing gimmick and Texas fans drinking the burnt orange kool-aid...again...ahead of a 4-5 loss disappointing season.

No good reason to think otherwise.

That's a really strange take. You are unaware of the hate directed at Texas, or any other very successful team (Alabama, OU, Dallas Cowboys)? Doesn't even matter if they win all that much, it's more about the perception by the losers of the world that they (the hated team) have it all and have it unfairly. This is not new. You have never experienced that as a Horns fan? If not, I question your UT-fan credentials.

No, I used to understand it. Texas has sucked since 2009. Doesn't make any sense now.

That's pretty hilarious that you question that. I question the sanity of some of you who continue to drink the kool-aid when Sarkisian has done jack squat, and Texas has been irrelevant for well over a decade besides a few flashes in the pan here and there.

But go ahead and question, it doesn't mean a damn thing to me.

Truth is, I'm cautiously optimistic. No, Sark hasn't "done it yet". Truth is, 2 yrs in Darryl hadn't done it yet. 2 yrs in Mack hadn't done it yet. You're perfectly welcome to be as pessimistic as you chose to be. I can only say Thank God that recruits don't share your pessimism. Yes, we have a lot of potential & as St. Darryl said, "Potential means you haven't done anything YET." But that doesn't mean we'll never do it again. I will continue to drink the orange Kool- Aide until we do it again or until I die 1st. In the interim, I chose to take that "old army ag" mentality you mention over your level of pessimism.

My fear is that we beat Bama’s ***, go 8-0 or some such, Texas is back, etc and then go 2-2 in the last 4 games due to stupid play calling, lack of adjustments, bad coaching, or just bad luck. That I think will be the problem if we have one this year.
 
In 1956, UT's record was 1-9. We fired the HC & brought in a 31 yr old former OU QB that had 3 Yrs experience as HC. His 2 yr record @ Miss St was 12-8. His 1 yr record @ Washington was 5-5. Obviously Darryl Royal was not much of a coach & UT stood the proverbial snowball's chance in hell of ever doing anything as long as he was our coach. HIC is right to be pessimistic about out chances. WE SUCK!!!!

I bet if they win 10 decisively hic will be the first to say he is happy to be wrong.
I am in first class on the bandwagon with a large yeti cooler of the burnt orange Kool aid

Just because I like and understand the "Embrace The Hate" schtick, that does not mean I am guzzling the Kool-Aid and think UT is going to the playoff. On the contrary, I have us 9-3. I would have liked ETH 20 or 30 years ago, because it's always been there. Just because I disagree with you about ETH, you are attributing other opinions to me that are not true.

IIRC, the Astros used this slogan and had t-shirts years ago so it's not like UT dreamed this up.

We sucked during Charlie's tenure. Outside of that, we have been mediocre. Let's keep our definitions a little more exact, please.
