Many white males seek out math as a refuge from the complexities of society. So when I bring up the role of race in math culture, they see me as destroying their safe space. As a black man, I too wish for math to be a safe space from race. Sadly, for many black folks, it is not.

Please tell me this is a joke. I can certainly summon one up about math not being a refuge from the complexities of society for some folks.

All of this reminds me when my kids were playing (separately) make believe games in their heads, and then starting a fight about which make believe game was being played correctly. To me, it's the most obvious thing. The idea that we would permit subjective perceptions and claims about one's gender to legally override that person's objective sex and require society to treat people and reorder itself according to those perceptions and claims is utter lunacy. I never thought I'd see the day and see supposedly erudite and intelligent people taking that approach. It's stupid beyond measure.

Furthermore, the idea that we would try to stimulate cultural pressure for people to tailor their sexual practices and preferences around those subjective perceptions and claims rather than biological sex is even nuttier. And I wonder why this seems to get put on lesbians more than it's put on straight dudes, even though the dynamic is the same. Is there a perception that lesbians are less certain about their attraction to women than straight men are and therefore more willing to overlook the whole penis issue? Or do these people think it'll be easier in the short term to shame lesbians and build momentum with them, because they are a sexual minority and therefore should more readily empathize with the "transwoman lesbian" (or whatever you'd call a guy who claims to be a woman but wants to get with women)? It's bizarre all the way around.

There are "TERFs" (Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists)--these are feminist women who maintain that transgender men-to-women are not really women (the position held by most civilizations for some 6,000 + years). The woke scene has turned strongly against them.

There is an interesting concept as to what is the limit as to defining oneself. On a less extreme level, take the person born in Country X, but who really likes the people and culture of Country Y, to the point he dresses, talks, and acts like Country Y citizens, perhaps even moving to Country Y. He declares himself a Y person--even though most would say he's not, he's not a Y citizen, and is from a different race/ethnic group than the Y people. He defines himself, and identifies, as a Y person. There is something free about allowing people to be who they want to be and identify as who they think they are.

I think there were plenty of Caucasians, and part-Caucasians, who became Comanches after being kidnapped (or their mothers kidnapped), including their greatest war chief (greatest in recorded history anyway). But I think that culture (Comanche) valued fighting ability above all else, so they didn't really care whether you were fair skinned, brown, or black. (as far as I know) If you could fight, and adopted their ways, you could become one of them, and they would accept you.

With sex/gender, it's a stickier situation, as modesty concerns make having a person with a cock in a female locker room problematic. It also goes to the very definition of male and female.

The more traditional approach is to call such a person a man with a kinky* habit of dressing up and acting like a woman.
