Discussion: the coming 2019-2020 Season

Dang Coach! I know you can't be 'crootin in Thailand! Kinda of a long road trip to support your player!

It sure appears Aston, and many other schools, are headed international to recruit! Her final 2020 recruiting class may end up being very diverse!

Until we know how long the suspension will last, it’s hard to really guess how much this will impact WVU during the season but not the best way to start the fall semester:

With Martinez now doing a disappearing act, I just had to go look at the roster. If I take off my shoes and count the players on my toes, I get to 12 listed. Since women's basketball is allowed 15 that was a little disheartening. Then I saw that Routt was one of the 12 and she too has been known to disappear....so 11 perhaps. Then Palmer is coming back from foot surgery so perhaps down to 10. Then Higgs is coming back from ACL surgery so perhaps down to 9. I realize that some of these 3 will be back...…...but I also realize that it is VERY difficult to practice with 9. And when is the last time a women's bb team didn't have one or two or three unforeseen injuries during the season. So if any of you lurkers have any eligibility left, you may want to volunteer to join the practices so the team can field two five person squads. Perhaps I am just paranoid but that is my nature. Sure do need to get closer to the 15 allowed.

While you make a solid point about potential lack of depth, which worries me as well, I don't think practices will be an issue. In the past they have fielded guys to practice against them and I figure that will remain the case.

With regards to Routt, they've been highlighting her in posts and pictures such as

My response is "Meh. You wouldn't tell us why she seemed to disappear, so why should I pay attention to her now that you're trying to highlight her?"

Something like, "Shae's got an injury that will force her to redshirt this year" would have been appreciated. And interesting they list her as sophmore, not redshirt freshman. But maybe it's just semantics.

Good thing the season doesn’t start in August.

Isabel Palmer still in a boot! Shea’s twitter account is locked so had to take a screen shot. Missing Sug and Celeste it appears?

I love Jamie Carey as a player and I had hoped one day she would return as a coach. However, my poor memory has me thinking our guard play has gone down the last couple of years. But....I guess I was wrong?

Those first team honors are comprised of the awards for players... Brooke and Ariel were honored repeatedly while Sug was honored last year. Not taking anything away from Jamie, but in all fairness Brooke and Ariel were developed under Travis their first couple of seasons... so he's due credit as well. Whatever the case, impressive guard development the past several years by the UT staff. :hookem2:

Travis needs to see some great results with his guards this season, after the ponies finished a combined 21-39 (9-33 in conference) the past two seasons. I believe he has 4 of his top 5 scorers back, most of whom were underclassmen, and a few good recruits - so hopefully they will make a big jump this season. They need to or the current course may prove too difficult to reverse.

Hopefully he'll be able to have more success... He's a great guy, the players loved him, and he was a good developer of our guards while he was on our staff.

According to Texassports.com, Higgs has been granted an extra year of eligibility by the BIG12. A hardship waiver due to injury last year.....for 2019-20 (this year). I thought this was a “given” but guess it had to be officially approved. I would have been in deep dark depression excessive misery if I had known there was a possibility of it not being approved. Higgs is the most important player this year to elevating this team.

Saw a tweet from WBB that their new video coordinator is Recee Caldwell. Now, why does that name sound familiar? Turns out we played against her twice. From San Antonio then....

UCLA (1 year) -> Texas Tech (2 years) -> Cal (grad transfer)

The rare trifecta of playing on 3 Div I schools!
