Discussion: the coming 2019-2020 Season

I just noticed that Alan Major is no longer listed on the staff. I assume this role would be his replacement. Is it odd that there wasn't an announcement regarding his departure?
I noticed that last week but not a peep from him or the team about it. While I was searching for some small bit of information, I stumbled onto LinkedIn and his job tenure at Texas did not show an end date and it's the same now.

If you click on the link for ‘Staff’, he’s no longer on the page. The roster pages are snapshots for specific seasons so Tina would be on the roster page for 2017-2018, etc.

I see that now, thanks. Did any of you ever see any evidence of what Major did for the program? I’m no longer in Austin, wondering if he had a presence at games, etc.?

Karen Aston said more than a few times that the team never quite gelled this past season. These 2 seem to be having a good time though I wouldn’t trust them to read lips for me.

Interesting article..
Thanks for sharing! I wondered who the 20 other schools interested were? Whatever the case, glad she chose UT!

Tried to find out the other schools myself but her being in Australia made it difficult. Don't know who actually made offers. Wonder if Texas sees her as a project player?

Good question... But I think she's definitely going to provide some depth in the post. It's exciting that KA is getting some international players. They bring different skill sets, and hopefully these will bring some that we've been missing. We didn't have quite the luck I'd hoped for with some previous international players.

Rules Change this season. For those who can’t see twitter posts: after an offensive rebound, shot clock will reset to 20 seconds rather than the full 30.

Hopefully Coach Aston will get someone that can help with offensive X’s and O’s and overall scheming.
I checked this morning it to see if it was still open - it is - and noticed this is included in the job description:
"Coordinate special situation-offensive study."

New fad. OR. Relaxation of rigid traditions in allowing the use of "0" as a jersey number.

Tradition of WBB, Longhorns WBB or in general? UT MBB have had 2 different players wear 0 in the past few seasons (another had 00). WBB has had a couple of players wear 00 but not since the 2012 season.

I assume that the new 3 point line for the upcoming season is for both men and women. Percentages will drop some. Don’t have a clue if the drop will be the same for both. Somebody with data from international experiences......please share. My fair and biased opinion is that it will drop a little more for the women. Or the number of BTA shots may fall? I think the reasonings behind the change is consistency between college and international and NBA......plus a desire to open up the inside due to pulling defensive players out further........plus others? Perhaps it will change the women’s offensive philosophy and strategy. And could change the type players you recruit. I am excited about those possibilities..........as passionate threads on this subject here is a certainty........and will give me days and days of good reading material. I’ll bet the NCAA decision makers don’t know either..........note the transfer portal debacle example.

3-point line change only applies to D1 men for this season, D2-D3 the season after.

Well.......wrong again! Guess I’ll have to repost in a few years after it is adopted for the women. Thanks for clearing it up. Disappointed in a reduction of messages on offensive strategy here......or maybe not.

I guess the new rule for the ability of coaches to call timeouts in the last 2 minutes is for men only as well? This will be an improvement for all as that was a crazy old rule. Finally they figured it out.

Here's my offensive strategy With Lashan coming back and it's simple. Pick and roll all day. I also think Joyner and Charli could be deadly in the high/low game. Gotta put that work in the offseason though. Saw Sug's instagram yesterday and she had a video where she made a crazy amount 3's in 18 minutes. Hope the hard work pays off.

Yes, but can we guard a "crazy amount of 3's?"

[Self-imposed eye-roll]

:e-thinking: Great find @DFW_Horn ! This seems similar to the "analyst" hires Tom Herman has made for football.

The job opening was posted nine days' ago. It wouldn't surprise me if they already know who they want to hire. Since the new hire will be helping with recruiting, this person could be in place by our first camp on June 8th.

I'm glad to see an addition to the staff as it will be a person with at least 3 years experience, so that's a positive.
21 days and now it’s no longer posted. I assume that an announcement will be made in the next day or so. I really hope this is someone new to the staff and not just a promotion of an existing coach/support personnel.

We'll have a very solid group... we're just lacking the kind of depth we've had the past several seasons, especially in the post :

Sug
Lashaan
Joyner
Charli
Celeste
Jada
Audrey
JoAnne

That's a talented eight-player rotation, plus I'm hoping for the two from down under to be pleasant surprises.

Pray Charli stays healthy! Significant drop off in post play between starters and non starters. I get nervous about her playing in these 3 on 3 tourneys.

Don’t forget about Karisma who I think is going to help with her ability to play the PG position. She’ll allow Sug to move off the ball and score more when we need her to. Sug is obviously at her best offensively when she’s off the ball.

Lashann, Sug, Audrey, Joanne and Charli...I don’t know what that exercise is but I’d need to be wheeled into work the next day on a furniture dolly.

I really like the S&C coach the program has It seems that he’s always incorporating exercises that translate to basketball and that use your core.

Definitely wishing Charli a bill of clean health through her summer adventures! With 3 on 3 requiring all players to aggressively produce, the experience should serve her very well in preparing for the upcoming season.
