Disaster in OHIO ... cue CSN&Y

This from the Texas dem is mild
"Hidalgo claimed the community does not know a lot of information about the situation that it should. She said “that doesn’t mean something is wrong,” but it is worth noting.
This from the Mich Dem is not
"I don’t know how you do that without contacting the local officials so that we can, number one, respond to our communities and, number two, give advice in terms of routes that you may take and those other sorts of things,” he added. "

AT least this The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE) said in a statement that the shipments were paused by the EPA following the objections from local officials.
Wonder if they stopped sending it to Texas

I mean, College Station is open for business. Just sayin'.

And they failed to tell State or local officials. They’re dumping a lot of it off at Deer Park.
Being pumped underground in a waste well permitted for hazardous waste. They use this well every day for hazardous waste without anyone caring until now. Pure emotionalism.

mc
Do you trust the government on this?
No, but I also know the chemicals are short-lived. Regarding the train derailment, you don’t need government to do anything except enforce an evacuation order. The government probably erred in letting folks check on their home after 2 days. Probably should have waited 1-2 more days given people’s emotionalism.

mc
If all the chems are short lived why was the government sending water and soil from there to Michigan and Texas?
It certainly couldn't have been about the feels since no one knew the government was doing it.

I understand it’s the firefighting foam in the water that they are tying to dispose.

AFFF foam?

Yeah, not a big deal if that's all there is to it. But there could be a lot more to it than just AFFF.
There IS that pesky link between AFFF and multiple cancers though...

Although I still DO live the old episodes of Emergency! when they broke out the giant foam hoses...

And CNN is even reporting it now.

Michigan officials are outraged.

Harris County, Texas officials appear upset.
Dora is only showing faux outrage to detract from her multiple failures. The Deer Park officials haven't seemed to be that upset, and the stuff was being shipped to a business in THEIR jurisdiction.

Same with saccharine and hundreds of household chemicals.
I’ve trained using AFFF before, but fortunately never encountered a real oil/fuel fire that would require it.

Yet another example of how our worries are way out of balance with reality when it comes to nuclear power vs all the other harmful chemicals we're desensitized to the existence of. A bit like regularly jaywalking busy roads and driving like a maniac while saying you don't want to ever fly because you're scared of a plane hijacking.

Wow, the WSJ agrees with me:

What Milloy is commenting on is the incorrect way the EPA assesses hazard and risk. They consider all health effects to start at chemical detection and proceed in a more or less linear fashion. However, that is not the way chemical hazard works. There is always (usually) a minimum threshold below which there are absolutely no health risks. Above the threshold problems start but as concentrations grow the effect can be linear, exponential, logarithmic. Scientists have to determine all that before describing risk to the public.

But dioxins are found in extremely low concentrations and found in nature, which complicates the analysis of the response.

IF as we have been assured the derailment leaks and controlled burn will not cause any problems why this news?

yes illnesses can be faked to get money . Rashes are harder to fake. Dead animals for sure didn't fake it.
But we should trust the gov't?

The pollution abatement equipment and the permits you mention apply to continuous sources of pollution (like an operating plant). This is one and done. You are comparing apples and oranges.
Dude you’re not qualified to discuss this. All you bring up is dilution. That’s all you got! Just wait for accurate lab results. They’ll come. Pete Buttplug wants to ruin samples via dilution. So dilution is a great cover up tactic!

Never trust the Government, never!

There are lots of chemical accidents and spills, many of them worse. The Gulf Coast area gets a lot of them for obvious reasons.

I think the main take-away from this particular one is that nobody in the MSM or Federal Gov't seemed to give a flip about the people from this area (some call the rural part of the "Rust Belt") until Trump went out there to give a speech. Then they were all over it.
