Disaster in OHIO ... cue CSN&Y

if I'm not mistaken doesn't your job involve chemicals?
Yes, but I don’t work in manufacturing or distribution. To be fair, practically every job involves chemicals, even the lowly housemaid. The folks in that town inhaled more gasoline vapors in their lifetime by factor of 1000 versus whatever chemicals they inhaled in the last 2 weeks. People see the burning tankers on social media without realizing the townsfolk were evacuated 3 miles away and returned briefly 2 days later where they could still detect odor. More folks returned 4 days later and I believe the odor was gone or was very little. This was 10-12 days ago. There is no ongoing crisis.

Mayorkas is not happy with Deez either.

There's definite competition. The reason I think Buttigieg edges out Mayorkas in my book is that the unsecured border is part of the policy agenda. Mayorkas doesn't suck at his job. He couldn't secure the border if he personally wanted to, because the White House doesn't want him to. His job is to keep it open, and he's doing that.

Buttigieg is actually supposed to solve transportation problems and avoid stuff like this. Nobody's telling him to **** up, and he's doing it anyway. Not too surprised. His biggest qualification was being gay, and that doesn't make one good at transportation management.

One could argue he has a basic misunderstanding of the term "One Way".

Cliffs Notes version, please. Do I need to feign outrage or not?

:coolnana:
I think it is fair to say that if this happened in a blue state or when Trump was president, there would be a different media response. I think this is what people are really mad at. Since the media is insulated against what people think about them, the angry folks claim the city residents are dying in the streets. It’s misplaced anger.

What about the water? There are videos of the chemicals in the water. Will they dilute eventually?

When I read these articles, the folks affected seem to confound VCM with forever chemicals. VCM is a highly reactive chemical that is an acute hazard (short-term), but it quickly degrades. Thus the decision to burn the 5 derailed rail cars containing VCM to reduce the acute hazard.

No one disputes some chemicals got into surface water, but that was 14 days ago. People are angry TODAY that this incidence got no coverage until a few days ago.

They should be angry. These effects will be around for a while. Especially if cancer is a side effect. That could take a decade plus to set in, statistically.

They’ve found dead birds (hundreds per acre) 350 miles away. These effects will be there for a long time.

Were they grackles? If so, then we have an unintended benefit.
Mostly. But the point is HCL and Phosgene in any lung, human or animal has Longterm side effects. I think these will be limited to maybe 25-50 mile circumference of the site in OH. Water, I am not sure about. But to say this has no impact long term is false. In OH, PA it does.

I eagerly await the analytical report. One commenter said it was natural oil made from bacteria. Who knows. Again, the 2-3 chemicals that leaked from the rail cars are bio-degradable.

So Biden et al is saying FEMA can't help. They are for helping in hurricanes and floods.
Forgot to read their own mission statement

As with all democrat policies, if it is not politically expedient for their benefit, they do not care. East Palestine is heavy republican so they can expect no assistance from the despicable democrats.

No they’re not McHammer. I work in environmental air and water control. What you’re saying is patently false. All these waterways need environmental soil remediation with pump and treat systems.
