Darius White

It is a little disappointing that our coaches let another one get away. At least that's what it looks like right now. Nevertheless, we still have a pretty good 2010 class.

so much for "he was so high on Texas early on". another late in the game slip up by our recruiting guys. If we don't get them early, we can't hang in the end. other than okam from my memory. strange.

This isn't necessarily being aimed at White but..

..is it me, or are recruits becoming more and more of poons every year? I've never seen so many "hardcore" recruits switch schools b/c "they want to play w/ their buddies" or "they want playing time" or "my momma says..". While this is a large issue w/ Texas, we see this EVERYWHERE these days. Where the hell has good ol' fashion HEART gone!? These kids are becoming way too sensitive and are going ot end up all being the next drama kings of the NFL, joining the cast of Brett Favre, Cutler, TO, Ocho..

Maybe he sees himself as more of a vertical type guy and maybe he doesn't see himself in the style of offense we're running now??

Maybe I should elaborate, I think this is what other coaches are trying to sell to him. Especially OK State, they have had sucess with this type of receiver with Dez Bryant and two others who names don't come to mind. Also you gotta think that he's young still, he's probably going on what he's seen recently.

If we get a 5 star type player late, it will certainly be a surprise. Has not hppened in a while. There is something about our recruiting philosophy, or something or other our coaches are refusing to do, which causes it. I have to reach that conclusion because after the last few years, it is certainly not a coincidence. I am also fairly sure that our coaches are aware of WHY some of the bluechips go away late. Obviously they know that better than all of us, and I don't think they can suddenly get so lazy as not to be able to pursue some 4 or 5 top kids for a few months. So, if the problem still continues to happen, it has to be because they are just not willing to do or offer something or other that these bluechips are looking for. What it is, I don't know

..

As I believe that this is due to deleberate action or inaction from our coaches - who are not fools, and know exactly what happened with several bluechips over the last few years - I also find it tough to blame them. I can only believe that they have their own reasons.

I am not expecting ANY of the players being talked about here, to come to Texas. Period. No top-40 rivals types, that is.

Getting White would have been great...there's a good chance he's gonna be a really good college receiver. However, the Horns have plenty of talent at that position already on hand.

I do agree that there is something going on with the five star blue chips that aren't choosing us. I don't necessarily think it involves anything illegal in every case, but I do think it's starting to create a problem of perception for the good guys with the top end talent...and I don't think it's just coincidence that it's happening every year.

I trust our coaches to know a whole lot more than any of us on this board about recruiting, so if there's something this staff is unwilling to do to reel in the top talent, there's a solid reason. It may not be readily apparent, but there is a reason.

I'd love to be wrong, but I agree that right now, I can only see the Marshall linebacker as a possible late commitment for UT. I think we need to be happy with what we have, because I think that's gonna be the next recruiting class, and it's not bad at all. It could just have been better with two or three key additions.

I mean that Gundy has a reputation for putting a lot of time into developing aggressive, balanced spread offenses that have had success going back to his days as a rising offensive coordinator in the early part of the decade. Couple this with the perception that oSu is a rising program with big name NFL prospects already in place and I can see the draw. He's only 41 (a young MAN?).

On a positive note, looking at blowU's recruit list, I see a couple of cows with lame calves in the deal. And if White goes there, he will take two more lame calves with him. The two out of state RB's and the QB could be good though.

OUengineer?(never heard of one) you obviously have no clue about what I am talking about do you? Let me explain it to your ou pea brain, a "cow and calf" in recruiting parlance, is when you have offered a friend or team mate who is not a high ranked recruit in order to get the higher ranked team mate or friend. In blowu's case, they offered stylin boy Franks to get Haynes, and you will do that again if you get the 2 guys from Dunbar, thus the cow (White) with the lame calf (Favors). Not to jump down your throat either but your ignorant mouth overloaded your sooner brain.

April 18, 2009. That's the day I learned from the best source I've ever had that Texas had cooled on White. I wasn't happy to hear it, but my source was so dead-solid I couldn't help but believe him. This wasn't White cooling on Texas, it was the other way around. Had Mack offered back in April, he'd have committed on the spot.

Trust in Mack.
