CU Cheated?

Per the Dallas Morning News by Todd Wills:

In an interview Wednesday with The Dallas Morning News, Roger Sonsini, the recruiting coordinator for St. Bonaventure High School, questioned Scott's decision to choose Colorado.

"Colorado came in on Friday and said and did something and offered something that Darrell and his mom couldn't pass up," Sonsini said.

Sonsini refused to say what was offered. The Times report said that rumors of a bank job for Alexis Scott, Darrell's mother, had surfaced.

In the report, Alexis Scott denied such speculation.

"That's crazy," said Alexis Scott, who manages an OB/GYN practice. "I've never even worked in a bank."

Told Wednesday of Sonsini's comments, Colorado sports information director Dave Plati defended Colorado coach Dan Hawkins and his coaching staff.

"Our coaches do not cheat," Plati said. "It's an asinine insinuation. Dan Hawkins runs the cleanest program in the conference bar none."

My fault for not posting a link. Can a mod fix it?

The article is in the DMN. Go look it up yourself if you don't believe it is legit.

How rich is it for an Okie to say "there's no cheatin' goin' on here.....move along....these aren't the droids you are lookin' for".

Must be a Jedi mind trick.

Yes, every recruit Texas loses is because someone paid off their mom/dad/uncle/teacher/FHA/Bank Of America loan/preacher/buddy/coach/neighbor & whoever else the aggy conspiracist theory in you can think of.
I mean, every kid across the country dreams of playing for Texas so it has to be something other than maybe so kids are just not in to you.

planojoe,
The ESPN article makes Hawkins look honorable. I don't know him that well so he very well might be.

I do know I don't trust Hagan at all. He was part of the CU program when the cheating was going on in a bad way.

My question would be why would Roger Sonsini make something like this up? What is the motivation?

SINCE, why don't you take your whining over to the OU board? Man, I am so sick of seeing you on here. Get over it, OU isn't where everyone wants to be either. Hell, if my parents weren't still alive, I'd never return to that hell hole called Oklahoma again.

Move along Sooner. I know I know. Nobody ever cheats & Barry Switzer ran the cleanest program in the world.

Many kids choose not to come to Texas for a lot of legit reasons (even kids Texas wanted) that don't involve cheating. It happens all the time to all schools. The diference here is a coach from Scott's HS is making the comments (not some upset Texas fan). There is a difference.

I would take 73 over many that infest over here that are Horns. Yeesh, I am vouching for a guy that likes exotic spreads with peanut butter. The offseason is here, huh?

Do any of you "Darrell's mom landed a job in Boulder" conspiracy theorists have a ******* clue as to how silly you look?

if there are numerous links, you gotta question it a bit. im not being whiny cuz we didnt get him, but when the new york times reports something it might be worth looking into

Exactly. It isn't as if it's a stretch to imagine that program being a cesspool. They've been a cesspool for different reasons under each of their past three head coaches. That is well-documented.

The only thing that makes everyone question this is the fact that Scott COMMITTED to Texas TWICE last week and then just changes his mind overnight.

Some of these rumors were also started by CU insiders bragging about the offer to his mother. Who knows if any of it is true, but Scott putting BK on speaker phone with a reporter in the room caused me to lose A LOT of respect for him.

There is also very little doubt that Scott's mother made this decision for him. He was Texas bound and even bought a burnt orange tie for the announcement, even talked with the coaches about a burnt orange suit. For him to be that committed, then give such weak arguments for his change of heart (the Major Applewhite nonsense) causes questions.

All of that being said, good luck to you DS. BTW, you just made the biggest mistake of your life thus far.

It would not shock me if it's true. I hope not, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. other schools have made similar promises of jobs to relatives in the past to seal recruits.

If what the poster above me said is accurate, something very fishy went down and it isn't the RB coach excuse. In fact, I don't think that switch had anything to do with the decision because he knew about it for weeks and a report came out tuesday we were expected to get his commitment.

Look, if it's true he was bought by CU we don't want that kind of kid/family poisoning our football team. We've had some serious character issues over the las couple of years and we sure as hell don't need another trouble maker. Let him **** up CU's program.

if it was simply a case of him being more comfortable w/ the CU program there's nothing to blame the kid and his mom for...so basically, this is all interweb masturbation and definitely a moot point.

SINCE73, most of the time your posts have some element of interest. We can even stand the crimson-and-scream tinting because we know you're a gooner. This time you've strained credibility past the breaking point. If you've forgotten, go reread the history of altered transcripts in the early 70s and the excesses of the Switzer era - then if you feel like throwing stones at the Horns, you'll at least be aware of the glass house you live in.

What is being forgotten in all this is that, apparently, Scott renewed his committment to UT well after he was told that Rucker was being replaced by Major as the RB coach. In fact, he apparently renewed his committment repeatedly.

This is in a post on BOFZ and I don't have time to find it and link it. But, if true, this might suggest that the NYT reporter was lied to.

I don't see a problem with people discussing these articles....someone is writing the story, we're discussing it.

What's the big deal?

Mack Brown who never speaks ill of others came as close yesterday in his press conference to saying that cheating went on here as you can without outright saying it. Something stinks here whether Hawkins was in on it or just turned a blind eye.
