Who is the guy next to #54 in the photo?

I think that's #49 Marty Brecht, Sooner linebacker.

mchammer, if you are talking about the Texas lineman, my guess is that it is #50 Bill Wyman playing center. Herbert was an OG. Another possibility is #57 Bob Tresch.

#52 Forrest Wiegand (OL 1967-69) had a terrific view of the game-winning touchdown in the Game of the Century. Here are two photos capturing that moment.

Recycling a photo previously posted for #55 Stonie Clark, this time to feature #52 Jim Bob Evans, who is on the short list of all-time-great Longhorn names.

Seems like yesterday when the count was started. Now, we are halfway there. Media days are soon upon us, then fall practice.

I ran a search for photos of #51 Stan Thomas, Longhorn OT from 1986 to 1990. I found this photo, but it was in a Barking Carnival article about 2015 recruit Garrett Thomas. Plus, the photo quality seems too good to be that old, and I don't think we played anyone with that uniform color while Stan was a Horn. So, is this #51 Mike Garcia at the Rose Bowl?

In any event, here is a photo of the real Stan Thomas, fixing QB Peter Gardere's shoulder pad in 1989.

That can't be anyone from the USC game. We didn't have numbers above the decal back then. That is Donald Hawkins against Iowa State.

NJLonghorn,
My guess is that the team in maroon/yellow gold is Iowa St. they have the double stripe on shoulder while USC does not based on a very quick not-thorough search. USC has a single wide stripe.
