Coronavirus

FYI - a German study using blood analysis of antibodies on a single town showed 15% infection though only 2% tested positive. If applied to Germany as a whole, then the death rate is 0.3%. If real, that would translate to 1 million US deaths. It could be less by a factor of 2 due to sample size and if better treatments are found. Also, if older folks stay quarantine until a vaccine is found. This is the way forward, not Monday-morning quarterbacking on decisions that doesn’t change the math outlined above.

How in the world is that supposed to help the Lib act out their emotional hissy fits directed at POTUS?

I think social distancing is helping no doubt. But seems very arbitrary and poorly done. Blame Trump if you want to.

In Nashville, construction is deemed essential only because it benefits the mayor. Plumbing is essential because our governor owns a large plumbing business. But many other businesses are arbitrarily closed. By the way, the governor is Republican.

Until all of these politicians stop receiving pay, we are not in this together.

Plumbing IS essential everywhere!

mc? " After Trump realized how inept the CDC was, he tried to buy a solution."
I never read that. is there a link I can read about it
He couldn't buy it with his companies so who was he getting to buy it and who was it?

Honestly I’m thankful for anyone working. I just think the decisions could be more strategic. I’m considered an essential employee because I have a healthcare business. I haven’t been in a clinical area of a hospital in 20 years.

I recall he said it in one of those early press conferences. I will look to see if I can find it.

The WHO had a test kit designed by the Germans that worked. I think South Korea used it. We declined to use it then tried to build our own. We screwed up the first draft and had to go back to the drawing board. America First! Ironically, it seems Trump tried to buy the German company after he realized that this was actually not a hoax.

Okay I see now this was posted earlier:

Biden Falsely Blames Trump Administration For Rejecting WHO Coronavirus Test Kits (That Were Never Offered)

Bubba was saying that Trump tried to buy a company that produces the Hydrocholorquine.
So far Bubba has not been able to produce a credible site.

I thought he said Trump tried to buy a German company that created the WHO test. Regardless

Trump’s failure to grasp the politics of coronavirus is, I’d argue, a microcosm of his entire administration. As with COVID-19, Trump had so many potential advantages at the beginning, after his surprise victory. Imagine if he’d started his presidency with a massive infrastructure spending bill, followed by an immigration compromise that would have funded his wall, beefed up enforcement, but also gave security to the Dreamers. Imagine if his tax bill had been geared to help working families, rather than the superrich, or that he promised to change Obamacare by expanding it. He would have had a chance to be a transformative president.

But to do that, he would have had to have been someone other than himself. He would have to have developed a long-term political strategy, thought structurally about the country first, and seen his base as a building block to reach out to others in building a durable coalition. But as so many of us pointed out, he was and is simply incapable of this. He’s a prisoner of his own psyche, there is nothing he can do to tame it, and he will allow no one to overrule it.

Andrew Sullivan: America Is Trapped in Trump’s Blind Spot

The Democrats are in a bit of a conundrum on this. There is room to criticize Trump's handling of Coronavirus and especially stuff he said early on. The problem is that at the critical time when we arguably should have been doing something, Democrats were mostly calling for the opposite of doing something. They were denouncing the travel ban, so they were at least supposedly OK with thousands of Chinese citizens infected with the virus coming into the United States every day. They were saying what little caution coming from the White House was xenophobic and that people should be going about their daily lives. They largely weren't calling for an economic shutdown or social distancing. Their criticisms are entirely a matter of hindsight. It's like criticizing somebody's bet on a football game after it's over and the score is known.

The reality is that virtually nobody really caught this or knew what the hell to do at the early stages. Trump didn't know. The Democrats sure as hell didn't know. Most health officials in the world didn't know. And why should they have? The people who were in a position to know (the Chinese government and the World Health Organization) put out disinformation and suppressed the truth. Frankly, the strongest point the Democrats have is that because they would have been licking China's sack, the Chinese government might have been more honest with them. I'm not saying there's merit to that point, but it's the strongest thing they have.

Exactly. Trump followed whatever his Covid-19 team said to do. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, they were fed ******** by China.
