Coronavirus

Nice ride Joe Fan.

I also have a 2003 Litespeed Tuscany, all titanium bike I still break out every now and then. And then there’s the mountain bikes.... Can’t have too many bikes I always say.

One thing with the stay home rules is that the bike trails are considerably more crowded than 'normal times'
Check it out though, I dont know why it took me so long to recognize Newton at work, but it finally hit me that there a tremendous corresponding decrease in road crowdedness so now I am biking down many main roads now I would not normally traverse

We have had alerts for some airports consolidating operations into single terminals. Brilliant. Move everyone to the same terminal. Isn't that the opposite of what they should be doing?

Exactly what I'm doing. The trails are too crowded to ride at my normal pace, and can't keep social distancing so I'm riding on main roads and on Hwy shoulders.

I am on a Scott Addict these days (carbon frame)

I'm really envious of you guys. My 1990 model Paramount (custom fitted road bike, Dura Ace comp's) has been garaged since 2004. Too many close calls from cars and trucks, even riding in a pack of 15+ in eastern Dallas county. Really miss my rides from Sunnyvale thru Mesquite, Seagoville. Best road bike I ever owned, and I've owned many

I'm awake. How is our situation similar to Italy's? Their cases and deaths per million dwarf ours. They're a far more crowded country, so it's much easier for the disease to spread. They're a much older country (in terms of age), so the cases they get are more likely to be lethal. I know it's your preferred narrative, but the case is just laughably weak.

If you want to make the argument that New York City is like Italy, then you might have a case. However, that reflects badly on Bill De Blasio who was telling people this was no big deal about ten minutes ago and to go on with their daily lives. In New York City, that means crowding tens of thousands into Yankee Stadium. It means millions cramming into buses and subways with people inches apart from each other. But you don't want him to look bad.

And of course, your people are saying we shouldn't even restrict travel. You were ok with letting thousands fly in from Wuhan everyday and cough on people. (Side note - I don't actually believe that. I think a President Obama or Biden would have ordered a travel ban, because it would have been suicidal and insane not to. However, large numbers of Democrats at least faked that they had a problem with doing so.)
You are awake, but thankfully not woke.

I say it is officially time to call this whole "shelter in place" thing off. POTUS was right when he said we should go back to work after Easter, I wish he had stuck to his guns instead of bowing to Fauci and Birx, whose model is just plain wrong. The main thing we were told to worry about is overwhelming our hospital system and that is clearly not happening. I read this morning of 3 different hospitals where the place is empty and workers are being sent home. This is because a) most CV cases are being treated at home and b) elective procedures are down 90%. Then I hear just an hour ago from my sister (a nurse for 40 years) and she says she is on half-days as the same is happening at her hospital. If the health care system is not going under, and has TOO MUCH capacity, then why are we doing this?

It's regional. Texas ain't that bad, but NYC (specifically Queens) is getting crushed. I know critical care docs up there and their patient census is 5 times above average and it's typical to have 10-15 codes in one night (average ICU night might have 2-3 codes).

This gets confusing. So many thousands of medical workers have been laid off all over the country as admissions dropped
Even in NYC they report the number of people admitted with non covid-19 ailments has dropped to the point they do NOT need the ship so what are the medical people who normally care for non virus patients doing?

They are getting furloughed.
