Not exactly accurate either: But in a 4,400-volunteer study in South Africa, the vaccine proved only 49% effective. In the 94% of the study population that did not have HIV, the efficacy was 60%.

FDA said Friday that booster shots designed for the variant need not go through phase 3 late stage trials, but only phases 1 and 2. Pfizer, Moderna, etc already have boosters in the works. Likely approved before end of summer.
 
One hope is that the efficacy of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine could rise if it is given as a two-dose regimen. Johnson & Johnson is running another large study, enrolling 30,000 patients, testing two doses of the vaccine given 57 days apart. However, Stoffels said, waiting that long between doses will slow results. He expects results of the two-dose study to read out in the summer or fall.
 
Johnson & Johnson expects to file with the FDA for an emergency use authorization in early February, and, assuming the vaccine is authorized, will have some product ready to ship immediately after getting a go-ahead. The company declined to give specifics on how much would be available, except to say it expects to make all of its 2021 supply commitments.

72% effective in US. Also, this part is key. If mild cases were counted among the placebo group, the reported efficacy would have been higher:

Akiko Iwasaki, a virologist at Yale University, said that the results for both the Novavax and J&J vaccines were strong. She noted that it’s difficult to compare the J&J results to those from other trials, because the earlier trials counted cases of mild Covid-19 whereas the J&J study included only sicker ones.

This one is a single dose that is like $3/dose, right? The scary thing is that if the variants in 3rd world countries keep this thing perpetual.

Single dose and can be stored at fridge temps for 3 months. And what you describe is what happens every year with the flu with 2 important caveats: 1) coronavirus is known to mutate less often than the flu, 2) the vaccines are more effective than flu vaccines, which vary from 20-60% depending on the flu season. The only advantage that coronavirus has is it’s novelty. Once you are vaccinated or exposed to the virus, I believe hospitalizations and deaths are no longer an outcome, even with a variant.

Do people beat off in places where they can't socially distance? When did that become a thing? The place I most often wear a mask is the grocery store. Never seen anybody jerking it in there. Hope Switzer and his friends in Oklahoma don't start giving people the idea.

Their objections to Trump, while having some merit, were born from their own obsessions. George Bush was a decent man and they wanted him tried at The Hague and subsequently hung. It doesn't matter what they say. They HATE anyone who is not about feminism.

Apparently 7 day average daily doses now approaching 1.4m. Recall Biden admin wanted 1m daily doses for the 1st 100 days, and when that happened on day 3, they stretched the target to 1.5m? Well, that will likely happen before 30 days in. Thanks, Trump!

The problem is Trump is like the boy who cried wolf. He was going to release his taxes after the audit. He wouldn't have time for golf. COVID would just magically disappear. He kept firing "all the best people". His health care plan was always "two weeks away" - maybe he has some time to work on it now. Mexico is going to pay for the big beautiful wall. Turns out warp speed was a great success. No one believed him because he's such a consistent, narcissistic liar.

The problem is Biden won and he's checking the liberal policy boxes despite the damage it will do to the economy. 10-12K pipeline jobs gone, no plan for distributing vaccines any different than Trump's, policies being formed for purposes of "equity" (aka communism). stopping construction on a border wall that is 90% effective, allowing illegals into the country, racist training n federal agencies is back on the board, tax increases planned which will kill the economy, etc. Libs are truly idiots.

Okay, another gripe because folks are ducking morons. Take a look at the link below. People are complaining that there are unused doses not being administered. However if you calculate the number of days inventory nationally, it is 12 days. My guess the hospitals want 7-14 days of inventory in the system. So I am not surprised. Also, when the vaccine has only been available in bulk for 30 days or so, 12 days of inventory seems like a lot. However after 90 days of vaccinations, the 12 days inventory looks more reasonable to assure supply for appointments made 2-3 weeks out. Yet, we have folks who are outraged by this when it is 100% expected and frankly desired. The world is full of morons.
