Coronavirus

The point of this tweet is that different analyses are coming up with similar IFRs. It is just below 2xs flu. Not good, but not anywhere near where Fauci or Ferguson would want you to believe.

Right now the thing to do is watch what happening in Australia, it should be what we can expect. They are going into winter just like we are going into summer. If we will see a new spike in Kung Flu cases it's likely to happen in cold weather. So watch what happens there as a model of what will happen in the fall/Winter.

Australia might be a slightly different beast because it's closer to the tropics with high average temperatures in winter compared to most of the United States. Also very low population density. While Australia is of comparable size to the entire United States, there are more Texans than Australians

Okay, I just wrote this letter to the Chron biz writer, who is business-loving socialist (think France). His column today was just maddening to say the least.

Dear Sir,

I must say you have outdone yourself in today’s column in terms of topping your typical contribution of mistruths and lies of omission. To wit:

- Regarding the title, “Politics, not economics, will decide COVID-19 death toll”. I’m curious as to what sort of economic model exists that will tell us when to open the economy. As far as I know, none exists. Your readers would have been better served if told you them that none exists, and in their absence, the governors of this nation are doing their best to muddle through.

- Assuming there is some sort of economic model residing in your head, did you consider the death toll from added poverty for an extended shutdown of the economy? One British publication says 500k extra deaths per an additional 50m people in poverty. How long would like to keep families in poverty, sir? No, I don’t have the link. You are the one being paid to write. Why don’t you do the research and tell your readers what is the downside of keeping people in poverty by government fiat?

- A good portion of your commentary is socialist agitprop. Seems like you couldn’t resist being political yourself. I will ignore it.

- US flu deaths can be as high as 70-80k per year. COVID-19 appears to be 3x times worse than the flu in that 200k could die from COVID-19 in 2020. It is not the flu, but it is flu-like.

- You appeal to the government as if they have a better idea how to manage the crisis. You realize many countries are trying various approaches to the virus and it doesn’t appear to make a difference. Note the government can’t tell us if the flu is primarily transmitted by aerosols or by liquid droplets on surfaces. The government has also lied to the American people about not wearing masks. They also said 2m US deaths. Data suggest that transmission in the outdoors is rare, yet the government banned the use of beaches and other outdoor activities. Given the number of the lies, why do you assume the government has any moral authority on this issue? The government would have been better served to push restrictions based on common sense (no large gatherings like stadium events, encourage social distancing, etc.) instead of overreaching by shutting down businesses. The people can figure out the rest.

- 40-50% of deaths are in nursing homes. An Italian epidemiologist said half of their deaths were going to happen within 6 months anyway. Yet, your article conflates their deaths with premature deaths that are counted to have a $10m impact on the economy. Appears your economic model deserves an F.

- Flattening the curve was to insure that hospitals weren’t overrun during the initial onslaught of the virus. That period has passed. What is the path forward to open the economy? Your article suggests that you know better than what Gov Abbot is doing. If so, what is your plan and can you defend it economically (which is your stated basis)? Once again, what economic model are you implying? And, shouldn’t that model include the costs of keeping the economy closed for an extended period of time? The fact you didn't mention the latter tells me that you either lying by omission or ignorant.

- Past columns by you emphasized to not forget about the poor. Given what you wrote today, I don’t think you care about the poor. In fact, it appears you care more about using this crisis to implement your version of socialist utopia. I don’t want to read another word from you on poverty. It’s phony.

Democrats and especially liberals are pulling for a depression due to CoronaVirus. Give me one example of a Democratic policy supporting getting out of this. Alternatively, they are trying to promote it and support it.

There aren't any examples. The only people I know still in favor of lockdowns and business closures are libs/Dems. That's it. ********.

I'm a staunch advocate of this country opening back up for business, however, I have instructed my parents to continue to quarantine until there is a either a vaccine or enough people get it that we have free access to plasma with the antibodies to repel it.

I want the young and strong to get it and get over it to develop that herd immunity.

**** like this gives me no sympathy for the left. They wish death on people who have done nothing to them but have a different political view. They act like they are for women's rights when they want to kill unborn kids but are okay and look the other direction when their presidential candidate is charged with the exact same behavior the current president is charged with.

There is nothing real about them, except that they are in this for power and the ability to use that power over the other side.

I am all for Texas and the other red states breaking away from the blue states and telling them to go Fug themselves. They can sink with their ship. I hope president Trump and the senate say no to giving money or anything to blue states. let the sink with their debt.

This is a potential global inflection point.
The BBC (of all people) now concedes the models were garbage. They massively overstated the risks. And they caused panic.
We flattened the “curve” so much that now hospitals are going bankrupt due to lack of patients.
Lockdown deaths soon on pace to exceed virus deaths in UK.
Watch the whole thing.

The Chron is garbage

JoeFan, I read that same tweet from Aaron Gint last night. We have all been totally mislead by governments and health agencies.

Even more disgusting is how much people are ready, willing, and motivated to do whatever these people tell us.

........and the bubonic plague was a made up disease that never hurt anybody and caused hundreds of years of european descendants to hate rats.

When will we ever learn?

get back to work, you slackers!!!!

and you Republicans, go to the beaches in mass and to sporting events and get drunk and have a "good time." This zhit is harmless and President Stable Genius will appreciate it as a vote of confidence in his peerless leadership.

Can someone explain why Lowes, Home Depot etc are "essential" businesses? I have seen massive amounts of people there buying pretty much gardening supplies.

Why did they not require those businesses to close their doors and only take curbside orders for truly essential goods? Why not do the same for grocery stores? Why is it okay to load those stores with hundreds of people, but not allow other businesses to operate?

Why wasn't construction or plumbing halted? I can tell you why in Tennessee. Our mayor has a construction business and our governor has a massive plumbing business. Do as I say, not as I do.

none of us "want that kind of life" and we aren't hiding under beds. But this scourge is highly contagious and is killing lots of people. It is disruptive of lives and some people are so used to getting most things their way and believe the lie we have heard all our lives that we can have anything we want so long as we want it bad enough that they are willing to suspend their judgment so they can live as they please.

I am ok with that so long as it does not make things worse for others. In this case, it does. How much worse is subject to disagreement and models are only as reliable as the data that is poured into them but there are stacks of corpses to show that this plague is different and dangerous.
