Cool guys/gals who 'back up' into parking spots

It is either going to be easy to park or easy to exit. You get to take your pick. For myself I only back in when I am at an event or something that I know I will have trouble exiting due to traffic. Plus I am usually running late and don't have time to waste trying to back in.

Did anybody mention those who pull through their parking spot to be face 1st on the next row. Or those that leave themselves plenty of room their drivers side but none on their passengers side which means you have zero room on your drivers side.....in that case they might actually be justified in backing in.

I actually counted the cars on 1 floor of our parking garage as I walked into work. DAMN YOU HORNFANS!!!

It was about 50/50 with big spots actually having more backers in than small spaces. Makes me think that people are not confident backing in or there is no room to back in. Most of them were cars because it is really hard as a truck to back in or out.

I will do a more detailed analysis and get back to you guys.

I saw a guy yesterday at the grocery store who backed in with his truck.

The only problem is this was a grocery lot, and the spaces were diagonal. So instead of pulling into the spot like a normal person (the spot being diagonally arranged to permit this to be done with ease) He makes me wait about 5 minutes while he tries to lug his gargantuan Chevy dually around and backs into the space; meaning not only is he wasting my time now, he's probably wasting somebody else's later--either by blocking access to the row by leaving in the wrong direction, or taking all day to get turned around again to leave.

My objection to backing in is the people behind you. You're behind some body in the parking lot. They turn on their blinker. You think they've seen a nice spot ahead of them so you think you're going to get the spot they just passed. Then they start backing toward you. You desperately check your rear view, praying no one has pulled up behind you because you're going to have to back up to keep this guy in his huge truck from running right over your perfectly nice little car. That's annoying. If they are alone in the aisle when they park, I don't care what direction they go.

As far as people who park across two spaces... My favorite was the truck in the full movie theater parking lot on Saturday night with the bumper sticker that said "What Would Jesus Do". I couldn't help thinking that Jesus probably wouldn't take up extra parking spaces so near the door.

What's with the whole "its easier to back=in and then drive forward when leaving." Are some people really finding that parking is difficult?

ba, if you're in a tight lot and driving a truck it is easier to back in. you can't turn a truck as easy as a car. you're gonna turn into the spot and have to back up anyways to straighten up in your lane.

might as well just back into it anyways.

Here is another problem with backing in.....people with big cars and trucks don't back in far enough because they are scared of hitting the back wall.

So after six pages, we have a handful of people who are now backing in that didn't before, but absolutely no repentant backer uppers?

Good work, OP!

True story - I once saw a guy in a truck back into a space at Sonic. He had an A&M sticker on the back window. It took him a minute to figure out it wouldn't work....

So, if you want to reduce the risk of backing accidents, and the evidence that backing in vs backing out is overwhelming in that regard, you are a douche? I think you may have it backwards.

I drive a truck and will back into a parking spot if I think it is easier to get it in there and I couldn't give a **** what anyone thinks about it. I also will back into my driveway if I have a bunch of stuff in the bed that needs to be unloaded. And once, I backed my pickup in because the battery/starter were acting weird and I thought it would be easier if I should need a jumpstart.

I drive a full-size truck so I back in alot. Its just coincidence that I'm cool. I have a really long driveway at home and I back all the way down on a regular basis because it puts the passenger side door by the bushes I try to park as close as possible to instead of my door.
