Coaching News and Rumors

Sheer rumor! I don't think he can really be plied away from Westlake Hills.

I’m guessing there is a number that would be persuasive

You're both correct. He won't come unless the $$$'s a high enough. He has a sure thing going forward at Westlake. With TH, if he comes for 2020 and we have another 7-5 or worse season, the probability is higher he'd be out of a job. Most likely a "bird in the hand" type situation. But on the other hand, "money talks, but ******** walks."

If Dodge were to take on the UT OC job (pure speculation at this point), and the entire Herman regime falls, Dodge could still easily get a spot as an Austin area HS head coach.

his history at NUTS would not abode him well in that position

His time spent at NTSU has NOTHING to do with what he could or could not do at Texas. You obviously do not know Todd and have never met him.

Just as Major is a brilliant football mind but a very poor judge of talent, Todd is a great football mind but hates recruiting.

I honestly don't know why Todd would want the job.

This has all the credibility of Bob Stoops to FSU. Not going to happen.

I don’t see Todd Dodge leaving Westlake. And it would be a risk for Texas, especially for recruiting. Yurcich appears to be the best option. IMHO, Kevin Johns Memphis would be next. But TH likes the Minnesota OC. Not sure his name, spelling?

True, but I do know what his record was at NUTS. Not good. Does not mean he was not a good technical coach, though. His High School teams have been dominant.

I did stay at a hotel when the team was there too for an out of town game. Did not meet Dodge though. Definitely one of my favorite UT QB.

Seems like after college he was a lineman for awhile but was shocked really badly on a high tension wire. He was fortunate to recover.

USC — Tosh Lupoi (Cleveland Browns DL coach) is getting some buzz as a potential new DC for the Trojans. Lupoi had a few minor NCAA violations while at U of Washington, so the admin is wary, but the fans seem to want him.

Helton is justifiably catching all kinds of flak after the Trojans got spanked by Iowa on national tv. Reggie Bush said USC was outcoached and heaped more abuse on poor coach Helton... USC now has a pretty big split between the admin and the fan base (we’re far from the only ones that have to deal with this from time-to-time). Admin support for (men’s) athletics clearly lags. Helen of Troy was a woman after all, as is USC’s new president. Bohn, an apparently weak yes-man and Helton fan, as Lynn Swan’s replacement at AD, isn’t helping things. This has all bought Helton another year. Meanwhile, USC recruiting has fallen off a cliff.

The best thing about all this is that the 20-25 all-everything California HS athletes that typically sign with USC each year are there for the picking. Problem is that we picked a lousy year to fall flat.

The idiot educrats, pathetic choices of ADs and coaches created the downturn at USC. The NCAA did nothing to them.

Loss of scholarships? What other school had only 15 scholarships and still had a top ten class?

USC was dirty decades before Pete Carroll arrived and has never been punished.

Rated 78. Because of the civil war between the administration and the alums. Do you remember Austin in 95-86?

These are the only Trojans currently highly ranked

Hiring young, offensive minded coaches — like McVay, Kingsbury, Shanahan — is the trend du juor in the NFL. Jarrah will probably follow suit.

As to Stephen A. Smith, the dude loves to hear himself pontificate. He takes verbosity to a whole new level.

One huge downside of 24-hour sports coverage is the need to fill time. That need has created a home for colossal bores like Smith, Bayless and plenty of others.

NYG maybe as well

From a previous post in this thread (see below). Rhule has basically been trawling for an NFL job for a while now--for the right amount of $$$$.

Baylor -- Matt Rhule speaks about the possibility of him entertaining an NFL coaching position, and how much $$$$ it would take for him to leave Baylor. "I'm not dumb, or naive enough to say that I would never be an NFL Coach.... It would have to be next to perfect." Translation: start making your offers NFL teams, cause I'm all about the $$$$.
