My son-in-law is a big fan, graduated from Cincinnati and lives there now. He thinks the only job Fickell moves for is Ohio State (wishful thinking?). Says there are some deep pockets to match money. I would go B12 if I were him and get the next job that I want down the road.Fickell has done a great job, but tap the brakes a bit some of you. There is nothing that I know of that says sure thing there. Winning at group of 5 against weaker competition with lesser expectations is quite a different animal than running w the big dogs. He has done an excellent job...and we will see more in the next few weeks...but we have seen guys in his position fail before and there is no such thing as a sure thing anymore...too many variables.
What?? Are you kidding?? You mean gooner U isn't every coaches dream job??Fickell is using the playoffs as a stall measure while the Bears complete their offer package to Ryan Day. Not sure why Day would consider that **** show and management or lack thereof, but if he does, Fickell is first call from Columbus. If he grabs OU now, he will lose out on his dream job.
Yeh - who could turn down the opportunity to live in the paradise that is Norman, Oklahoma. You mean gooner U isn't every coaches dream job??
But I get Riley to USC. He may tear it up out there.
I think USC may be the easiest place to build a National Championship team.
This is certainly possible, but I don't think we will ever know the truth. If his reputation was going to become tarnished at OU, it will eventually become tarnished at USC.I think he recognized the program was starting to come apart and that's why he bolted before his reputation got tarnished. Not because of the SEC thing.
This is a sentiment I posted a couple of days ago. He may shine. But he may flop.I believe he'll struggle at USC because while he knows what a championship program looks like he has never built one.
Riley was the OC/QB coach in '15-'16 then took over in '17. That's 3 years with Mayfield. Murray had to sit out '16 bur still practiced. Was the backup in '17 and starter.in '18. That's 3 years with Murray. I'd say he had something to do with developing them.I don't. He took over a championship program with a heisman QB then transferred in another heisman QB. He didn't develop either of those but got full credit. He was only the coach for 4 years, but I've noticed each year the team has gotten slightly less dominant than what Stoops delivered. This year they easily could have lost 4 or more games. The "offensive genius QB whisperer" had trouble with his offense most of the season with two 5-star QB's who were mediocre.

No ****. It used to be no one scored in the SEC was because the D's were so good. Then they actually got QB's with a pulse and all of a sudden LSU smashes every scoring record and then Bama's scoring 45+ a game. What changed is the QB and receiver play and OC's willing to change with their personnel. D's were still very good, but good O will almost always trump good D with the rules as they are.Its funny to me how someone might say a particular offense is better suited to the SEC or any other conference. Just keep the chains moving via run or pass. I think this is valid in any and every conference. just sayin.

Perhaps a problem for teams like OU in playoffs and bowl games. We make a lot of holding not called in this conference. Is it that much worse here? Seems to be.Re: the rules as they are.
As they are enforced that is. In particular, the rampant non-enforcement of holding.
We NEVER agree.I don't. He took over a championship program with a heisman QB then transferred in another heisman QB. He didn't develop either of those but got full credit. From your mouth, to Barry's ear...But he may flop.

Miami is rumored to be making a $$$$ run at Mario Christobal of Oregon. Christobal is from Miami.
Canzano: Miami is waiting on Mario Cristobal ... but Oregon has its arms around him
Nike makes a lot of $$$$.Not a chance that Miami can outbid Oregon if the primary factor is $$.
We NEVER agree.
I agree with you here, mostly. The slow downturn of the program (OT v. Georgia his first year....Beat up by Bama...curb stomped v. LSU...5 star Rattler looked like a poor man's Garrett Gilbert...made Tulane look like an SEC program...had to come from behind against KU...Alamo Bowl...two all-conference players). But, don't think the impending curb stompings on road trips south of the grits line didn't have anything to do with it. Combine that with 24/7/365 sunny weather, more $, and an easier trip to the playoff annually...BOOM. And I don't blame him a bit. I think this is a good move on his part. I think the SEC is too big for him.
