Coaching News and Rumors

Its possible Sabre Tech generally hits North La pretty good on the rec. trail and he should draw some good skill position players with his reputation

Looks like there might be a race to get Fickell if one is to believe he is on lists of ND, OU, possibly others...If true...something will drop soon.
Lots of gamesmanship in these deals these days.
I'm going to bet Fickell ends up at ND.

Bob could be stepping in to allow Fickell to finish his work at Cincinnati, then be introduced in mid January.

Makes sense. Some are saying Venerables. I just can’t see it. Doesn’t fit the mold. That said, I could see Heupel or Kentucky Stoops.

To me, OU is a much better job than LSU. In fact, one could argue that OU is a better job than USC.

Man would I love to see Riley fall on his face.

OU is sure keeping quiet on their end. They now have to compete with ND. It may be hard to get who they want in the timeline to save early signing day.

OU is a much better job than ND. People don't realize the drawbacks and fights with the administration that occur weekly in South Bend. Stuff as simple as meals.

Would bet stoops stays at OU and Fickel to ND
This was my initial guy feeling...but keep hearing Bob's reasons for leaving are all still there and he doesn't want back in the game. You never know with these guys though.....

Yeah ..on Venables...
Something about that seems like an unlike OU move...though it wouldn't surprise me as times are a changin' as they say.

You probably have more insight than I do but would you rather be in Norman or South Bend? I am sure the money will be wherever he goes.

Butch,

Norman is far more appealing to a coach. Both have great histories and traditions, but the priests in South Bend are tightwads with strange ideas. There have been major wars fought between coaches and the administration. Things we take for granted are not the norm at ND. Simple things like the training table, special meals for the team, etc. I can't stand Brian Kelly, but he has had to fight some uphill battles to get things that you find even at SFA & Sam Houston.

If the administration in Norman pulled the same ****, the gators in Anahuac would be a lot fatter.

If you are a coach on a college football show, you want back in.

Fickell has done a great job, but tap the brakes a bit some of you. There is nothing that I know of that says sure thing there. Winning at group of 5 against weaker competition with lesser expectations is quite a different animal than running w the big dogs. He has done an excellent job...and we will see more in the next few weeks...but we have seen guys in his position fail before and there is no such thing as a sure thing anymore...too many variables.

I don't think there are many sure things out there anymore. I could maybe see Bob Stoops coming back. Hard to say no to $5-7 million per year. And he might relish the challenge of competing in the SEC. I don't think it will happen, but nothing really surprises me anymore.

As to Herman, I don't think he's an idiot so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he's learned from some his mistakes. But what administration at a top school is willing to take that chance? I wouldn't. He'd need to prove himself somewhere at a place, like you know, Houston.

I left you some low hanging fruit there, Sangre. ;)
I was about to type something similar then saw his note...
