Coaching News and Rumors

Unless it's a professional goal of his to step into a **** show, seems to me Campbell could do better than Tennessee.

Yep. Campbell belongs at a better place than little ut. Michigan should have grabbed him. Somewhere in the Big 10 will make him an offer one of these years. Maybe a Purdue, Mich State, Nebraska, or somewhere like that since Michigan wouldn't pursue him. Anything less than those listed above would be a lateral move at best.

Plenty of moves down South.

Alabama - Robert Gillespie (UNC RBs) will move to Tuscaloosa to coach RBs for Saban.

Auburn - After getting Tracy Rocker back to coach DLs, Rocker is now rumored to be eyeing a move to the Philadelphia Eagles... Pain on the Plains.

LSU - Daronte Jones (Minnesota Vikings DBs) will talk with Big Ed about the DC position in Baton Rouge. Jones used to coach HS football in Louisiana.

Ole Miss - John David Baker (USC TEs) will coach TEs for the Rebels and be their passing game coordinator.

Vanderbilt - David Raih (Arizona Cardinals WRs - fired) will be the new OC for the Commodores.

My Tennessee sources say a lot of alumni want Tom. I just giggle uncontrollably when that talk starts.
As long as they pay him $6 million a year have at it.

The problem is this:
Little ut: Great to have Tom Herman as our new coach. We cannot wait for him to pull all of those great players out of Texas and win the recruiting wars in the $EC.
Herman: At Houston and Texas we battled for all of the great high school football players.
Bohls: Tom, most of the 4 and 5 Star Texas HS players seemed to pull away from Texas the last two years.
Herman: Recruiting, like winning, is hard.

Fleck could do better than that $#!%storm. I think he'd make them a winner, but I wouldn't jump on that job if I was Fleck. At some point, one of the premier Big 10 jobs will open up (amazingly, it wasn't Michigan this round). Either that, or some other premier job.

I'd put Tennessee in the upper middle (lately lower middle) of the SEC pack. The lower South schools enjoy a recruiting advantage over the Tennessee's, Kentucky's, Missouri's, and Arkansas's of the league. They do have a huge stadium and a rabid fan base though... You won't find that in Minnesota.

A good paying gig helps us
I don’t know what the contract says, but it should say that if hired for an equivalent position at a power 5 school, then no more pay. There is more to the job than pay. Where is the compensation to Texas for working at a top tier school that someone like Herman didn’t have on his resume prior as head coach? In a lot of cases, coaches are MORE marketable after being fired from Texas than when initially hired. It also eliminates the games that other schools do to reduce their pay for the first 1-2 years.

I've never seen it either but, at a minimum, there would be some type of mitigation clause which would allow for an offset. So while we will still be paying them, it wont be by as much. If all of them get new gigs, it will add up to something. As the Texas Tornados sang, a little bit is better than nada.

The offset should be between the job before Texas and the job after Texas. I bet in most cases Texas gets paid, and not the other way around.

Tom would have been best served by heading up a Power-5 program with no expectations before a job like ours. I don't think the ACC would have been the best spot because it's terrible and no one has expectations outside of Clemson there. But I could see him do well at several other schools.

Damn DrJoe.
Now I gotta watch that movie again

Wiki says the female lead was offered to Janine Turner (aggy) then Michelle Pfeiffer and only then to Rene Russo

Two other interesting factoids
1. Chip Beck at the 1993 Masters was the inspiration for the movie
2. The punch shot that Costner hit from the bar that knocked the pelican off a post was based off something Gary McCord actually did.

Cal - has an opportunity for any wise a$$es who think they could coach
(not that there would be any of those around here... :smile1::smokin::rolleyes1::smh::yes:)
This job might be perfect for those who constantly criticized Sam, and even criticized our QBs from decades ago, like Chris Simms. Just tell them you quarterbacked some backyard football games. The only drawback is that you'll be based in Sabre's favorite town.

Cal Football is looking to fill an Offensive Graduate Assistant Position. Looking for candidates with Quarterback / Wide Receiver Experience. Must have an Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above and a cumulative GRE score of 300 and above. Please send resumes, transcript and GRE scores to [email protected]
