Coaching News and Rumors

Napier (La Lafayette HC) would be good, but he’s already turned down other Power 5 conference suitors, and will be hard to get.

Yeah. The daughter of one of my neighbors is married to one of LaLa's Assistant AD's, and she said LaLa was shaking every tree and looking under every rock to find enough lose change to keep Napier in Lafayette.

I think Baylor should take a hard look at Skip Holtz, he has a great offense he runs at La Tech and with better athletes I think he would keep Baylor very competitive.

Multiple Baylor related sites are posting that Aranda has emerged as the leading candidate this afternoon, and a firm deal could be done soon. Others are saying It’s expected to happen, and one site claims it’s a done deal.

IMHO, If it’s Aranda, they did pretty well.

I'm still hoping the Bears grab Diaz, but maybe I'm the lone voice crying in the wilderness.

I think this Dave Aranda hire is very interesting for BU. His defense wasn't the reason they won that Natty this year but I know he is very highly regarded and others on the board have much praise for him. I thought he was the highest paid NCAA assistant. Any word on how much he is getting to come to the Brazos? I see rumors that Okam will stay. Is there room or interest in Joey McGuire on our staff?

Whatcha know bout them Big12 offenses yo?
Notice the more sec schools have adopted aspects of Big12 style spreads and uptempo offenses, the more the big defensive names in the sec havent fared as well.
This will be an interesting test of some Big12/sec arguments, albeit on a very isolated scale.

Baylor will now have a pipeline of sorts into Louisiana and their level of athleticism and speed will rise more than it is now; and they are pretty fast already. The Bears aren't going away.

So is that 6 losses for the Horns next year Maj?

Well, Aranda and Baylor shouldn’t plan on holding any camps in Louisiana...

Then again, the possibility arises of a joint Louisiana camp with us and/or Tech, TCU, etc. and some lower level teams like UH, SFA, Texas St, UNT, etc. Ed won’t like any of it, but only so many La HS players can sign with LSU, and the HS coaches want their players to get a look from lots of programs.

First, Coach O must allow a facility accommodate them and that is not happening soon.

Why wouldn't Okam come back to his alma mater? Unless he thinks Herman is a terd. Alright I'm sleepy. Yawwwwwwn.

1/17

Boston College -- poaches Vince Oghobaase (UCLA DL) from the Bruins.

Georgia -- hires Todd Monken (So. Miss HC, former Cleveland Browns OC) as the dawgs' new OC

Minnesota -- Chad Wilt (Cincinnati DL) takes over as the Gophers' DL coach.

Mississippi State -- Tony Hughes (assoc. HC and TE coach) will stay on and join the new Pirate crew under Leach. "In 2015, 247Sports.com tabbed him as one of America’s top 10 recruiters after the Bulldogs hauled in one of the nation’s top 16 classes."

Nebraska -- Huskers' OC Troy Walters got canned. Mike Dawson (NY Giants OLBs) comes on as the OLB coach.

USC -- Ruh Roh! Graham Harrell is now interviewing for an NFL job. Harrell interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles today. If Harrell bolts, USC must replace both the DC and the OC.
...
It gets worse: micro-managing AD Mike Bohn is making the hires rather than embattled HC Helton. Bohn works under a female president who appears to be more than a bit anti-football program. "Mike Bohn's plan: Clean up USC's athletic department before tackling football." Well, at least we know they won't be hiring Briles.

Aranda isn't exactly a "Louisiana" guy. His stints at UH and Delta State might have opened him up to a little bit of LA recruiting, but his job at LSU was way more about X's and O's than it was about Louisiana players. He's basically Tom Herman. A coordinator who has been hopping around until he got the HC gig.
