Coaching News and Rumors

I don't know and am too lazy to look it up. I think he had one of those unexplainable, semi-unanimous "analyst" positions.

Horns beat TCU in FW in 1966: 13-3. I was was in the North End Zone with other members of the youth Frog Club knuckleheads. My Dad and Grandfather were on 40 yard line seats. I think Bradley connected with TE Tom Higgins for the games only TD.

I remember watching the Horns in road whites walk down the steps from the visitor lockeroom between the East stands and the End zone stands to the field.

I focused on Bill Bradley, Chris Gilbert and DKR. They were larger than life. I was excited and truly awed.

Austin 1967: I was at the game with my Dad. TCU played inspired and upset the Horns that day 24-17.

Lindsey Cole had a long punt return for a TD for the Frogs.

Chris Gilbert had a 97 yard TD from scrimmage. A record that may still stand?

Former Director of High School relations Chris Gilbert is returning to Texas as a Special Assistant to Head Coach Sarkisian.
Coach Gilbert left Texas in Dec 2022 to become the assistant head coach and tight ends coach at North Texas. Before his first stint with the Longhorns Gilbert was the HC at Lancaster winning over 120 games in his decade coaching the Tigers.

Chris Gilbert was my favorite player for many years. And WorsterMan, I believe that the run against TCU in Austin, along the near sideline from south to north, was 96 yards. (But who’s counting?) I’ll never forget it.

I will also never forget listening to the 1967 USC-Texas game in the coliseum on the radio. I think we were hoping that Chris would light it up, but some player I had never heard of sounded like he was unstoppable. On the radio, every time “Simpson” touched the ball,, it seemed like the announcer would say, “he’s going for 6, no 7 … make that 11 yards.

6721,

Beat me to it. Florida recruiting hasn't exactly set the world on fire. Gotta hand it to the Aggies, first they take the joke of the century off FSU's hands for a fortune, and now they relieve the Gators of one of their worst hires. Whose next up? UCF?

They should aim for the up and comer at FAU.

It seems like they think he will be a key to state of Texas recruiting. He sure wasn't at Fla. I took a quick glance at Fla's2023 roster. There are 4 from Texas who are either So or Fr.
2 more from Texas who are juniors so he didn't recruit them.
I am sure he is good at something. We know Aggy makes good personnel decisions,

They did get potentially a pretty good qb from Willis. Don't recall his name but he is extremely fast. They spread out the offense with speed on the outside and threw a bunch of short passes that the receivers so not sure about his passing ability, and overall the district which is basically Conroe/The Woodlands was not that great this year. But he still has playmaking ability.

Boss
Yes Apparently Hamilton was instrumental in landing a 5 star qb from Conner/Willis?? in 24 class. So aggy is hoping he will switch from Fla to aggy.

It was DJ Lagway, son of the bailer ex RB. Willis also has two 2026 recruits to watch with DB Jermaine Bishop and OL Jay’Don Moore. My brother lives in Willis and that little town is becoming Conroe jr.

Bishop: all those communities north of conroe all the way to Huntsville are adding people exponentially. Reminds me of Georgetown and Round Rock expansion beginning 10 years ago. Same with east to Cleveland and West to Magnolia/Montgomery.

That qb will alter UF in the upward direction if he stays healthy. He was lights out at Willis and if we were not so loaded at QB would have loved him to be at Texas.

I have no doubt we will witness Madisonville south to Galveston as one city, just like San Marcos north to Jarrell, DFW south past Waxahacie and Burleson. And then not to mention Katy is rapidly moving West. In my opinion, Texas is getting just way too compacted for comfort, at least for my old traveling carcass.

bishop,

Katy has now broken the Western barricade and built a couple of large subdivisions and a HS nearly half way to Brookshire. That's nothing compared to Frisco, Prosper, Celina, et al

Now east to include the northern Collin County towns of Anna and Melissa (Sherman is only 20 miles from Anna).

Sabre, I had an Exon retired buddy give me a tour of a new house he was building in new gated community in Fulshear in early 2005. It seemed wide open country to me at that time.
Boy has that changed in 18 years. lol

Fulshear has really grown and has some really nice areas. One outstanding restaurant, but unfortunately the Swinging Door has closed.

One of the biggest problems with commuting to Memorial Stadium is the construction on I-10 at the Brazos River bridge. It is so bad that I have the Colorado County & Austin County on speed dial. Couple of years back the Channel 13 website showed multiple problems on I-10 with speeds being under 10 mph. Wonderful lady in Columbus told me to "definitely avoid and go around". I took 71 down to 90 and 90 in through Eagle Lake, East Bernard, Willis & Fulshear. I didn't even know Fulshear had a HS, particularly since you can see Katy Thompkins HS from Fulshear. Now it is 5A, not to mention that Randall HS was battling for a playoff spot in basketball.

What, where, and why is there a Randall HS, along with Katy Jordan, which I assume is in Jordan Ranch Development between Katy & Brookshire, South of I-10.

FWIW, Randall is LCISD's second HS South of 59 between Richmond/Rosenberg and Needville.

Thanks for your knowledge on that Sabre. I had always wondered about the Brazos river situation around Fulshear. It is indeed a mess I am sure.
Luckily I drive from Corsicana to Austin and it is not a picnic either but still better than some areas farther south.
