Could make perfect sense. Just as an example (and I don’t have the numbers), if he’s going from two years at say 3.5MM and a buyout of 8MM, to 6 years at 3MM with a buyout of 6MM, it would equate to a good decision and job security.Interesting. He also may have done it to free up money for assistants to be paid more.Could make perfect sense. I'll pick option "C)".A) he probably hears rumblings; B) he knows this is as high on the college HC totem pole as he is ever going to get; and C) it is WVa so who cares after 01 July.
Maybe no one cares, but factually the WV program compares very favorably to ours over the last 25 years. They’ve made a bowl game every year except for three years. We’ve missed four bowl games. Their bowl wins include the Fiesta, Orange, and Sugar - so they’re not playing in chump bowls. The overall bowl quality is similar. They have a winning record in bowl games, as do we. They have five 10+ win seasons. We have eleven 10+ win seasons, but only two in the last 14 years. Most notably we are 6-6 against them all time. So their program isn’t nothing or even mediocre, which was the implication.A) he probably hears rumblings; B) he knows this is as high on the college HC totem pole as he is ever going to get; and C) it is WVa so who cares after 01 July.
When it comes to fan base and television footprint, West Virginia is nothing compared to Texas. They don't have the championships, the Heisman trophies or the NFL production. Speaking of Heismans… I was in Boston over the weekend and had some time so decided to stop in on a BC game. They played and lost to Pitt. The bball arena is attached to the football stadium. On the way into the arena I walked by a window and saw Flutie’s heisman. The door was locked and but someone let me in. So got to see a random heisman. Anyhow, they aren’t that rare if I can literally randomly walk past one. Boston College has just one fewer heisman trophies than we do.When it comes to fan base and television footprint, West Virginia is nothing compared to Texas. He probably came back with "money" but by then Cannon's money was no good.365,
BC's Hype$man was won on one play not a season's work.
FWIW, Billy Cannon's is on display at the front door of TJ Ribs on Acadian Thruway just of I-10 in Baton Rouge. After eating there several times, I asked the owner if Cannon owned part of the restaurant. He said no that Cannon asked to borrow some money from him and offered the award as collateral. He told Cannon he didn't need any collateral, but Cannon insisted. He said Cannon never came back to get it, so he had a case built for it.
I’ve never been to Morgantown, but I have been to just about everywhere else in the state. And I have to say it is one of the most beautiful states in the county.Man I loved going to WVU games. Tailgating with free moonshine, free food, and great opposing fans (not the kids. the kids can suck it)
Once in the late 80s, I went to a retreat function at the Greenbrier. Fancy. Was excited about my first Swedish massage, but it wasn’t a Swedish girl after all, but a huge hairy man from West Virginia. We did play tennis on clay courts and croquet on perfect grass courts—it was a rule that you could only wear white out there.Once Robert Dedman bought The Greenbriar, he rapidly pushed it past the old Homestead

Dont think you can add that many games to college football because of the physical impact it takes on players. They already have to make allowances for health and the players that are now banking big bucks on NIL that want the NFL would not want the extra wear and tear on their bodies. All the opt outs over the last few years have made many of the bowls just unwatchable. The playoff for a national championship is a money grab and a profitable one. After it is expanded to 16 (6 teams that might win it and 10 with no chance at all), they will expand it to 32 and then 64 etc
Pointless but wildly profitable, like the March Madness
