Coach Stephen Ambrose Sarkisian.......Staff

Something you just never saw from Herman, Sark appears to have immediately realized he made a mistake (probably because he just didnt have all information and understanding of history with Stoops) and rather than trying to justify the unforced error and just plowing forward he changed course and looks to have made a really good recovery. Herman was so headstrong he was incapable of this type of quick acknowledgment and correction.

And to think that just yesterday, our staff was inchoate
Then we landed Choate
Now we are complete

HC - Sark
OC/OL - Flood
QB - Milwee
RB - Drayton
WR - Coleman
TE/ST - Banks

DC/OLB - Coach PK
DL - Davis
ILB - Choate
CB - Joseph
S - Gideon

Here is one version of the story -- it appears that the Stoops hire was ready to happen. Terms were agreed. But the people funding this operation objected. And then word leaked out to the masses (the "Orangefans") and they raised hell overnight with CDC and Hartzell even. If so, it is Sark's first stumble. Nor is it a good look for CDC, who apparently was willing to either ride with Herman in 2021, or replace Herman with James Franklin. Which is troubling on either account, if true. Luckily, we have some smart BMDs and they said "no."

" ...Stoops to Texas was enough of a done deal that Stoops informed Alabama and head coach Nick Saban of his plans, said goodbyes to people around the Crimson Tide program and was expected to fly to Texas on Friday to begin the process of finding a new place to live with his wife.

A Friday morning call from Sarkisian changed those plans.

Sarkisian, the former Alabama offensive coordinator, shared during that call that he could no longer make the hire. Multiple sources referenced that backlash regarding the potential of hiring Stoops may have played a role in eliminating the possibility. AL.com had reported Thursday evening Stoops was expected to join the Texas staff as linebackers coach....."

if you want to read up on Choate
CONFIRMED: Choate to Texas as co-DC, LB coach – Skyline Sports

“In 2017, Montana State played the toughest schedule in the Big Sky and were a couple of two-point conversions (in a 16-14 loss to Kennesaw State and a 37-36 loss at Northern Arizona) from making the FCS playoffs. The Bobcats did post a 31-23 win over Montana in Bozeman, the first win by the Bobcats over the Griz on their home field in more than a decade. That helped MSU finish 5-6.
* * *

In 2018, despite the academic issues of two-year starting quarterback Chris Murray (he did not play at MSU again), the Bobcats broke the playoff drought as linebacker turned quarterback Troy Andersen helped will MSU to a post-season bid and a first-round victory over No. 24 Incarnate Word. Of course, the Bobcats also captured a 29-25 victory over Montana in Missoula in one of the most unforgettable games in the more than century-old rivalry.*

And last season, Montana State ascended to the ranks of the nationally elite. The Bobcats defeated four teams ranked in the Top 25 of the FCS, including a win over No. 12 Southeast Missouri State in their home opener and bookended by a a 48-14 decimation of the No. 3 Griz in Bozeman that helped the Bobcats sew up the No. 5 seed in the FCS playoffs and the first-round bye that came with it. MSU beat No. 25 Albany and No. 18 Austin Peay to earn a bid in the semifinals for the first time since 1984.”

*That 2018 victory over Montana was legendary. They erased a 22-0 deficit to win 29-25.

From 247 --

Jeff Choate as a position coach... is about as equal to landing Pete Kwiatkowski as a DC. A Kobe Bryant shot in his prime (sorry, born and raised in SoCal). This is a phenomenal hire. ... a fantastic addition.

Choate has the piss and vinegar of Muschamp but also knows how to be fiery without being psychotic (plus, he has the head coaching success Muschamp didn't in a much tougher draw)

Recruits love him, parents love him, half the state of Montana loves him (and the other half hates him, which is exactly what you want).

But Sark finished off this staff with an absolute bang.

Well, shucks, I guess they are conning me into renewing my tickets.

on a side point, the swipe at CDC for “almost” doing something or “considering/thinking about” doing something—that could be said of anyone who takes a broad view of decision making. Sitting at a conference table: “okay, what are the pros and cons of keeping Herman? I want everyone’s full input.” I’ve “thought about” moving to almost every place I’ve gone on vacation, but that’s a long way from actually doing it.

Co- DC and Lb coach, or LB coach only? To me that is a big difference. Still a shock to me Sark got him but it is mighty cold in Montana. Wait till he feels this heat in Sept.

Oh. Well then, let's put him back on the list of potential hires...
It sound like he has recruiting experience in East Texas.
:beertoast:
I am pretty sure you were joking about the whole thing, but someone seemed to misunderstand my response. I wasn’t saying the charges were nothing or that we should hire this guy (no one was, right?). I was just pointing out that the reporting headline of “jailed for drug charges” was kind of misleading for a Rx misrepresentation case. Whatever!! Carry on...

Sometimes there is a subtle, not always obvious, line between the serious and humor.

The hire from Montana looks solid on the field. He’ll have to beef up the recruiting aspect of the job to a high level.

All of our staff need to ingratiate themselves with Texas HS football coaches. Some of these guys bring along West Coast recruiting prowess as well. I wouldn’t mind cherry picking 4-5 highly rated West Coast guys, along with a class of Texans, and a smattering of other out of staters, each year.

Oh my, this guy is awesome!!!!!
Guys and girls if you didn’t watch this video I encourage you to go back and watch it
Thanks for the heads up NR! I did scroll past it but went back and watched it at your suggestion. Very glad I did. On top of everything else, the man is the kind of patriot we should all aspire to be. That alone should be a welcome addition to our team. Watching that video makes me wonder why Mike was ever considered.

Speaking of choatage, I hope noone here is intestate. If so you better get that checked out.

Did Sark get it right on the DB coaching positions? Specifically, CB?

Is Joseph up there with Jay Valai, James Washington wrt:
1. Technique / Results
2. Recruiting?

I don't know which coach(es) was responsible for the terrible secondary play at times in the Herman era, which is why I ask if Sark's hires are an upgrade? Seems the players liked both Valai and Wash.

How does it compare to Akina in his prime days?
