Chick Fil A was packed this morning

It took me 30 minutes to get through the Drive Thru at Chick Fil A this morning.

I wonder, maybe some of you liberals or moderates can help me answer this, Same Sex Marriage on the Democratic Platform? Is that serious or just the media stirring the pot?

Personally, I think this will be a major major mistake for this election to do that, but then I don't know much. What do the liberals/Democrats on this board think about it being part of the National Platform?

mwa is probably much more comfortable with the Texas GOP plank that was against teaching critical thinking in schools?

Something like 65% of "young people" are pro same-sex marriage.

Why is this a bad strategy for the Dems? Why is being against gay marriage a good strategy for the GOP?

I have no idea about the Texas Republican plank, not into group think, I think for myself.

I am for individual choice, thought and success.

Virtually everyone I know here at work is a fiscal conservative/social liberal. We are all highly educated and all in the 6 figure/year earning category. Most of us are no longer Republican because of things like opposition to same sex marriage and trying to nitpick around the edges of abortion.

The party of small government likes to have lots of regulations in these social issues. Now, we may end up voting Romney due to Obama's pretty bad energy policy (we are in the oil/NG industry), but it is these other things that make it unlikely I will vote for a Republican congressman or senator.

I would be fine with it being on the national platform for the Democrats, but I also realize that so much of that is done for political reasons that I will take it with a grain of salt.

Education should be left up to individual districts to teach what is needed in their districts.

Dallas ISD, the basics reading, writing and math would be my suggestion.

Lewisville ISD, you can read and write, I would suggest more math and yes some extracurricular activities as long as your tax payers fund it. Maybe a computer or two.

Interesting comment. You say you are fiscally conservative but you won't vote for a Pub Senator or Congressman?

why do you think a Dem Senator or congressman would be more fiscally conservative in voting on economic issues?

Young people are for Gay Marriage, ok.

California, the most liberal state in the country had it on the ballot in 2008, when Obama won the state by what 2 million votes, lost the Same Sex Marriage law.

The base, if you can call it that, of the Democratic party are African Americans and Mexican Americans, who are opposed to Same Sex Marriage. I personnally think this on the National Platform will fracture the already splintering Democrats. Again, just my humble opinion.

Personnally, I could care less.

A CNN link, so you can't dismiss it for being a Fox News Report.

religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/07/31/black-pastors-group-launches-anti-obama-campaign-around-gay-marriage/

49% of African Americans opppose Same Sex Marriage laws. 39% support it.

I don't have any Mexican American studies off hand but I would assume the numbers would be similar.

Catholics of all colors would have numbers that are skewed against Same Sex Marriage.

According to Democrats, these are fundamental pillars in the Democratic party.

I think it would be a mistake in an election this close.

Thank you for helping to explain it. I get some of it

and i ask this as I do not know. You said the reason you wouldn't vote for a Pub is you think they would delve into social issues with which you would disagree with their stand.

Question
1. When the Pubs last held both Houses did they vote through any social issues bills with which you disgreed?
2. do you think Pubs in the House now will push through social issues with which you disagree versus economic issues which are so much more important now anf for our future and which Pub vote you would likely agree?

I think it's generally understood that extremists write the party platforms. I don't think most Texas Republicans want to pass and energetically enforce sodomy laws, but certainly thsat plank is enthusiastically endorsed each time the party meets. Much like happened with divorce over the last 50 years, public attitude towards gay marriage is shifting and I don't think it will go the other way. Certainly when gay marriage gets on the ballot it excites the homophobes who may not know or care about much else but would love an opportunity to stick it to the queers.

i disagree with you. Attempting to pass any lege( extreme lege from both sides) is their right>
Sometimes getting a bad policy out in the public view makes sure it gets voted down AND likely reveals how extreme those people who brought it up are.

But I don't want to stifle any idea in case an idea I supports comes up

People who choose to be with a person of the same sex can have all the civil and legal issues they want. The same legal protections that a man and woman who are married are entitiled too. They are not being denied anything except for a religious term. Marriage should not be in the government.

Same Sex Civil Unions and Opposite Sex Civil Unions are the same.

Marriage should be between a couple and their church. It should be a church's decision if they call it a marriage or not, not the government.

Color of one's skiin is not a choice, to be with a person of the same sex, different sex, or to be with nobody is a choice and should not be subject to the law. It is one's freedom to choose.

I went thru the drive-thru on my way to the office early this AM - much longer line than normal. Just had CFA for an early lunch - it got real crowded right after I got there ... no CFA tri-fecta today - wife is fixing fish filets for dinner.

I will eat at CFA again on Friday.

I ordered the sandwich with no pickles, but the chicken strips were better, in my opinion.

I also agree that, in the eyes of the government, we should ALL be getting civil unions. Call it whatever you want, hold your ceremony wherever you want, Uncle Sam shouldn't care. I'd immediately vote for removing all reference to Marriage, Spouse, etc. from any documentation from the government and replacing it with whatever verbiage corresponds to Civil Unions.

This is all a big distraction from the real issues. Get ready for many more from the Democrats. I feel sorry for Cathy being used as fodder for the smoke and mirrors from the miserable job the Administration has done with our economy. Cathy was at the wrong place at the wrong time. He makes this statement in December and most of the nation shrugs and goes about their business. This conflict will be the number one example of Faux Outrage.

When will the homosexual community wise up to being used for a re-election campaign?
