Change at Tech?

Last week, Rams' coach Sean McVay offered Kingsbury an offensive assistant/consultant role for their stretch run

Word is that USC has asked Kingsbury for an answer by midweek.
Kliff's holdup isn’t merely interest from NFL teams to join staff — but also NFL teams with interest in him as HC possibility.
The timing is not perfect for him, forcing him to make at least one early decision

If USC wants him bad enough to pay NFL OC money then offer it without a deadline. That will not happen due to recruiting pressures so USC just needs to move on. Perhaps they could offer Beck.

lecturer,
In your opinion, do you think Tech will come to regret parting ways with Kliff, or do you think it was the right move for both parties?

It would be my view that TT is not likely to regret moving on from Kliff. He's a great offensive mind by any objective measure, but it was time for a change. He just wasn't getting it done as a head coach on a number of fronts.

Contrary to the entire Bro/Swag stereotype, he is an extreme introvert and that created some problems for him from a head coaching standpoint. I would expect to see him in the NFL in the near future is my guess.

I think both parties will eventually benefit.

He may never leave LA

I asked a female friend that has lived in Lubbock forever if she was getting a Kingsbury t-shirt when he was hired.
She said no, that everybody in Lubbock has known that he is gay since he was QB at TTech.
Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

Ive seen that rumor too. But it defies logic.

LFZ,

Not disputing your friend, but there is a coed transfer in Norman, who used to be in Lubbock that will dispute that story.

And some gays marry and have children before embracing who they are.
I really don't care one way or the other.
It was just surprising to me when I heard that.
I had never heard that rumor before.

sorry to dispute your friend, but that's just not true. I've personally seen him with women in non public, high profile settings.

Been a good while back, but someone on the old shaggy board posted a pic of he and a date attending some comedian's show there in Austin.

In fact, one of the things that made the USC gig more attractive than some of the other ops he had, was the fact he has a girlfriend out there currently.

I could care less about his sexuality. That’s his business.

I like Kingsbury’s demeanor. Always have. But I believe it to be unreliable to draw any conclusions based on what someone else said or, for that matter, even what he may have said. Further, the fact that he has dated females or is said to have dated females (or is currently dating females) is not a definitive indication of his sexuality.

He may or may not be gay. Again, I don’t care. We won’t know unless or until he comes out. And if he never does, we will probably never know. That doesn’t mean that he is not gay, or that he is...

If indeed he is gay, I believe it reasonable to suggest that the environment in LA is more receptive of a gay lifestyle than would be the case in West Texas.

i think you sell the people of West Texas a little short here.

Only a few months ago TT knowingly hired a new women's basketball coach who introduced her same sex significant other at her introductory press conference.

I've yet to see or hear about even the first eyebrow being raised.

West Texas has long been accepting (or at least tolerated) lesbians. Tech in particular had Sheryl Swoopes in the late 80's/early 90's. I never made a big deal out of being lesbian when I was living out there in the same era (I was about an hour to the south) but it was hardly a secret...

And, that being said, MANY places tolerate lesbians far better than they do gay males. Seems the activities of the gay male give a lot of people the heebie jeebies while they consider the activities of lesbians to be the thing of good porn.

Good point. I might argue though that although the gay lifestyle might be tolerated in “Northwest Texas,” I dare say that it is celebrated in LA...
